Power doesn’t have an active stick. That’ll change quick with Ruff

Lindy: your system is set before the start of training camp and doesn’t really change throughout season. It’s all about developing muscle memory from day 1.

Lindy Ruff is the guy who made this happen. Our team full of Nordic kids are in for trouble

I think reality might be closer to your original thought.
Coach contracts are typically one year longer than their leash because owners are typically OK with eating one year if they have to. It’s almost like the last year is at the owner’s option. The summer before the last year is often a time to talk extensions.
Most coaches get 3-year deals with the idea that they will get 2 years to prove themselves. Shorter contracts aren’t typically a consideration for coaches with Lindy’s resume.
To me it’s unusual and it does seem to indicate playoffs or bust.
The devils are paying for the next two years unless he signed for a higher dollar amount. So it’s his way to bridge the leftover Granato contract and be cheap too

And my point was more to TP yet again not understanding life and fumbling all over him self to the media. I like Thorny’s response. A whimsical quip to subtly tell your boss you are speaking out of your depths.
I heard a Billionaire fan who cares but doesn’t want to give up control being happy to be able to make amends to the guy he had fired in the first place before everything went to ***** for a decade.
KA is a yes man he is never going to do that. He only has the job because he has no issue being a lap dog to Terry

NFW I’m watching that video. Did Pegula really mention injuries as the reason they lost to Carolina in 2006 whilst standing next to his GM, a player on said winning team?
They both acknowledged it yes

Adams has publicly graduated firmly to the “time is now” mindset. Unequivocally repeated it’s about winning. (I’m so happy for so many of you @Thorny, @PerreaultForever, @PASabreFan…😜)
Lindy very much seemed to believe in the talent. And you know he’s going to believe in his own ability to unleash it.
Really broad brush here, but I feel positive his presence is going to resonate with our growing Western Canadian group: Krebs, Cozens, Byram and Benson.
And you know he’s going to challenge Power. Very interested in seeing the response.
Power is definitely going to be an interesting case with Lindy. I don’t think he’s been worked that hard before.

I think the ineptitude of Terry Pegula makes Lindy a good candidate for this team. This team is dysfunctional at the owner and GM level. More than a coach we need somebody with the trust of the owner to separate him from hockey meetings.
Berube and Gallant may be better coaches, but they would but heads with the organization dysfunction just like every other person who has come into the KBC.
I am not psyched about Lindy the coach. I am psyched because he might literally be the only person on the planet to provide a long term solution to the biggest plague for the Sabres and that is Pegula.
EDIT: Other orgs don't have to save the on ice product from ownership. The Sabres do. So while this may not solve coaching, it could very well solve for ownership.Craig Rivet basically made the same argument. Lindy is the only guy out there who realistically can get KA to do his job correctly and not just fantasize the owner

We don’t have any of those players unless we change a lot in FA. Should be a lot of active and aggressive stick play

Lindy is about coaching to players strengths and finding their own role. Not shoving square pegs into round holes. He said as much himself today and his history in Buffalo coaching has plenty of examples
Skinner usually had issues playing into a system. He has a chance
Oloffson is exactly the type of player that Ruff would get the most out of. Not saying we need him, but he wouldn’t be so invisible like he has been lately. Just because they cheat into him on the PP doesn’t mean everything should fall apart.

Don’t see us getting into a Taylor Hall situation with Lindy Ruff

I’m not sure “objectively” is ever provable, let alone at this stage.
Objectively just means it meets a list of criteria. Outcome is irrelevant

Some people have a hard time admitting that Lindy is objectively the better candidate for this role bs the others at this time. His track record has always been about getting younger players to hit their prime. The others didn’t.
Found it interesting that before the presser Biron told an anecdote about how Gratton didn’t want to be the player that Lindy was asking out of him and that’s why he got traded for Briere.
Kevyn is going to follow directions on the line up. It’s how Lindy has always been

Curiously, they’ve been very solid hanging onto leads the last couple seasons because they’ve been good at transition and punishing teams that open up. Start strong, then finish them, pad the stats, and play your goal songs.
But they had nothing when facing adversity and would cower if the other team didn’t give them space.

Or it means the owner is being cheap and Lindy was the only coach willing to only take a 2 year deal.

If I remember right, Ruff games were lots of early leads that would become hold the fort scenarios that relied upon good defense and goaltending. Always wished they tried to run things up, but it’s a long season.
Almost polar opposite to what we have now. Let’s hope the middle ground is the landing spot…

I disagree. Buffalo has a talent problem as well as a heart problem.
They weren’t playing for the fans. They were playing for the coach that would tell them encouraging things and not push them too hard. That’s fixed by coaching

BTW, I do hope Ruff succeeds. You know how cool it would be after 13 years of pointless stupidity to have Lindy Ruff come in and get us not only back in the playoffs but to have us win a round or two? That would be epic.
I am going to tell my kids this is Lindy Ruff.
That’s how curses work. Hockey players are the most superstitious of them all.
It’s not been a talent problem it’s been a mental one. Players have been leaving Buffalo and lighting it up elsewhere for a decade now. And overlooking the power of superstition is a rookie mistake. Statisticians be damned

The entire point of a coach is to set a standard. Even the McKinnin of the world are going to be on a struggling team if the coach won’t set a standard

Hes cheap let a new coach give him a new look. This kid needs structure

From the linked article,
That's something I mentioned a day or two ago. When they *did* make a concerted effort to win the puck away from defenders in the Sabres offensive zone, they looked a lot better. It just didn't happen enough.
Frustrating part was how many pointless dumps there were when last year we’d pass it back to the defense and retain possession during changes.

As long as he’s not behind the bench
Where will Ruff have the biggest impact on this team?

Correct this for empty netters?
lindy was always an early lead then hold the fort coach
