I think this board underestimates the contributions that Johan Larsson made to this team last year before being injured.
I don't; it's more probable that I overestimate Zemgus's ceiling...
-
Charitably speaking, the emphasis there should be on the wink emoji.
I was getting tweaked for effectively saying "Thanks for agreeing with me. Please post more!"
Careful, I'll turn on you in a second ;)
Yes. Humor. Surely you've seen it before?
No malice intended, I promise.
Watch it, you're on thin ice as it is ;)

Or Girgs and Grumpy Larry battle it out for the final center spot.
And if GIrgs wins, trade the latter!
-
I know what you mean. Sycophants always come in handy ;)

What is the downside to spreading our six "best" forwards over three balanced lines — Jack/Pommers, ROR/KO, Sam/Evander?
Have Girgensons, Pouliot, Moulson and the Rochester four battle it out for the other three spots, with Grumpy Larry as the tenth forward.
I really like the idea of Sam centering Evander, even though I think the analytics say Eichel centering Evander was the most productive for both. I'd be curious to see the former, though.

He is going into his 8th year in the NFL. He is what he is.
Not as a starter, and with a new style offense and new coach. I agree he's not going to morph into a different QB, but maybe a coaching focus on a different offense can bring something else out of him?
Shooting in the dark for optimism somewhere...

With good slot receivers and good coaching, is it possible Tyrod can be coached to and still learn to be a better over-the-middle passer?
-
My man. Seems clear that, if Eichel were driving toward a value beyond $9M, he'd already be signed. I think that sentence makes sense if it had read "well beyond $10M."
Same thoughts

I don't think he cares who he plays with, he just wants to win and get his TOI
Wasn't referring to who he'd be playing with, but being on the 3rd line. I agree with the concept, but the 3rd line doesn't get nearly as much TOI, and that's why I think he wouldn't like it.
But then again, if he's on the power play and kills penalties, maybe it'd even out.

Does anyone think there is any chance of these being our 4 centers?
Eichel
ROR
Samson
Zemgus
??
I'd love to see that

I think if this line becomes a possibility it'll be the 2nd line not the third
First line Pouliot-Eichel-Okposo
Second line Kane-Samson-Pominville
Third line which would be your defensive line
Girgensons-ROR-(Breakthrough Rookie)
Fourth line Josefson/Moulson-Larsson-Rodrigues
Josefson/Moulson-Deslauriers
I like these, but I don't know if ROR would
-
I don't think we put our leading goal scorer on the 3rd line

That guy who sucked and was cut got signed to the Broncos practice squad.
Hopefully he'll have more success than Karlos

I've maintained he has no leverage to leave teams,
Which was never part of the conversation
-
Wildcard- you've gone back and forth with me quite a bit, yet I'm not sure if you realize I never thought Jack would get an offer sheet. I was just explaining why Jack had leverage- because the possibility of an offer sheet exists.
Now you admit Jack has leverage, but let's not forget, this happened:
In general he really has no leverage at all.
-
Despite that, I would be willing to give Jack the second-biggest second contract in league history because I believe in him.
Before the stupid Draisaitl contract, that number could have been as low as $7.5 million.
I don't think Draisaitl's contract was/is an issue at all. I think Jack thinks he's at least 11/12.5's the player McDavid is :P , and wants 11mil
-
Yes, I was saying 3putt is mostly correct.
I will say my point still stands. Stamkos is a talent much like Eichel, and was not provided an offer sheet. There have also only been 7 offer sheets in the last decade. My point of, if a player is eligible for an offer sheet they will not be offered one, still stands. Even if Eichel makes it to RFA, like Stamkos did, for some reason teams are still hesitant to offer sheet an elite talent like that. We saw it with Kuznetsov this year too
I get your point, and have cleared stated why I think it's flawed. I'm going to now go back and delete all redundant responses from this back-and-forth, and I think you should too. (including this post of yours I just quoted)
-
They're not going to let it get to July 1, I'd bet everything on that.
If Jack is showing that he's worth what he wants, the contract gets done early in the season.
Around 20 games in, I'm betting.
-
You know what? If Eichel doesn't want to be here, it's only a matter of time before he leaves of his own accord. If he doesn't want to be here, he'll show what he's capable of to other teams, but slump when he feels like it. Seriously, if the guy doesn't want to be here, bring in people who do.
I don't think that's it. I think he wants GMBot to show him he thinks he's McDavid's peer
-
I think way too much is made of Sam's skating.
I'm not trying to rag on him, but I think his skating deficiencies necessitate putting him in a very specific situation to utilize his best attributes.
-
It's nucking futs to allow this to become a possibility. Sign the man.
thank you
-
all were resigned before being eligible to be offer sheeted.
Right.
Would that be Buffalo's compensation? Go for it!
Then we become the pre-McJesus Oilers
Since the Sabres are likely to match anyway the best way to screw Buffalo over would be to make a 4 year offer sheet. That puts Eichel into UFA status at 25 even if the Sabres match.
Would the Sabres be able to match the $ amount and make it an 8 year deal?
-
If he's not one of the best 12 forwards on the team, and I'm hoping he's not, it is absolutely the right thing to do.
If he is sent to Rochester and unclaimed, his full salary will count against the cap. Like Wade Redden.
Ouch
I know hockey is a business, but wouldn't that get GMBot a bad rap, league-wide? To make a seasoned, respected veteran ride the AHL bus, just because a previous regime signed a bad contract? Wouldn't the "right" thing to do be to just buy him out?
-
Then if that's the case why don't teams offer sheet players?
Because there are very few Jack Eichel's
To clarify, all of my statements are predicated on the opinion that Jack Eichel will be among the top 2 players in the league in 2-4 years

Definitely tempers all of the "start Peterman" talk
(which I am embarrassed to admit I was almost buying into a little)
