The offense only had urgency at the very end, and put together a decent drive. If only they could play the whole game like that.
-
Tough to not acknoedge the guy has an it that we can use.
Not tough for some, apparently!
-
At 26 he is what he is.
Yes, a potential 30 goal scorer. Those don't grow on trees.
-
That's only because Jack was injured. I'll bet you he doesn't this year.
I thought that goes without saying. However, I still think he can break 30 goals
Am I the only one who thought Kane was successful as he was last year because he was far more judicious in his shot selection, and better - still not great, but better - in reading and respecting his linemates?
I agree
-
We aren't shaming him by making him the 7th defender. We're literally just saying we have 6 better guys.
I wasn't saying 7th would be shaming. Below that, I thought, would

...Kane was a one trick pony and that most teams had pretty much figured that trick out. Watch how many times Kane is doing exactly the same thing and I think you will realize this critique is true. Not a lot of creativity in his game.
This would seem believable if he didn't lead our team in goals. So...

No it isn't. Why would we want his cap 4 2 years instead of 1. Jack gets paid next year, rather clear 100% of gorges
What I'm saying is, if we don't want him to play, that is our only option. It is our responsibility to deal with the (unfortunate) situation honorably, as opposed to shaming a veteran who did nothing wrong.
-
That would've been a completely unnecessary and dickish move that would've hurt the Sabres' future ability to attract veteran FAs.
Exactly what I was saying. If we don't want him on the ice, the honorable thing to do is buy him out.

absolutely sick shot at 1'24" by Pommer:

Liger, that jersey is beautiful. And the player was great for Quebec.
Was there anything conclusive re:rumors of him being, like, 23 at the time of the draft? Would explain a lot...

I think he'll find his niche this year. I do agree he does lack some vision, but I think he could have more 30 goal seasons on the right line with the right system. I think this system will bode well for him
-
He's slower than ROR, Reinhart, and Okposo?
It's not even close, man, what team are you watching?
nfreeman wants you to know this is obnoxious :P :P :P
-
There are 71 others with his name?
long story, but this works
-
he looked bad in session 1 until they started with the breakout drills. Think he is benefiting from a simpler system
he needs to dangle more

ROR is too hard on himself as it is. Adding the "C" to his sweater might break him mentally when things aren't going well.
I forgot about that thing. Well, makes the decision for Wowie easier
Possibly. But how much did taking the C off Schoenfeld's chest & putting it on Gare's mess w/ chemistry? Those Gare teams seemed stronger than Schoeny's but never got as far.
Lost on me... born '85 ;)

They're not going to give the C to Jack unless he signs. Giving him the C without signing just ups his price.
I wouldn't use the same reasoning, but I can definitely see Jack not getting the C until he has a real season beyond what he considers "mediocre." (Basically, the season that would validate his contract asking price)
If O'Reilly gets it this year, and Jack has 80pts at the end of the year, no one (incl ROR) would be upset for Eichel to get the C the following year.

Just rock what ya got. I have a Stafford Slug, probably the worst jersey imaginable. I still wear it on occasion.
I - obviously - do not fear the slug. Only wish I had an "away" version, I thought those looked better...

I was also wondering about Gionta's (and also heard about Gorges's) reputation in the locker room. Was it their tone that wasn't resonating with the younger players? Curious about any inside info...

He's 22 years old, so I don't think he's in the "he is what he is" territory yet.
Also, his linemates last year were guys like Moulson and Deslauriers. I wouldn't be overly excited to pass it back to them either. I think there's more skill in there than you do, and i'd like to see him given the opportunity to show it.

While I've been skeptical that Pommer can keep up with Eichel, I'd be very interested to see these as the top 2 lines, especially if it leaves Reino as the #3 center with a reinvigorated Pouliot and one of the kids as his wingers.
I read over this quickly, didn't see the "R," and thought I read "Leino," and almost had a heart attack.
Pomminstein has decent net presence. When Vanek was a possibilty, I watched a video that showed all his goals last year. A good many of them came with him either stationary next to the net, or cruising in late behind the rush. I know Pommer and Vanek are not the same, but the point is that speed isn't the only way a player can be effective, and a wily veteran who's lost a step can be effective on an otherwise speedy line.
Especially if Kane, Eichel, and D-men are the primary impetus of the rush/zone entry.
but what happens when Girgensons turns it over entering the zone
Ok, we get it, you don't like Zemgus's play when he was playing with borderline NHL'ers. I still have memories of Zemgus's dangle vs. Detroit late in Nolan's last season. He has talent.

again, I agree

I blame Obama.
And his tan suit
-
That Bylsma chose a REALLY bad zone entry system last year should not be held against him (nor Moulson, for that matter.) It's not Sam nor Matt's fault that they were unable to retrieve pucks that they shouldn't have been lead forecheckers for in the 1st place.
I agree- I also think Samson at center supported by wingers with speed would be a win-win. But doesn't change the fact that I think there are multiple scenarios in which Samson's lack of speed could, indeed, be a liability.

I am concerned his potential is about Afinogenov.
Max did have a 73 pt season. I'd take that.
If you're able to attend a training camp session, please post your observations here.
