  1. That's only because Jack was injured. I'll bet you he doesn't this year.

I thought that goes without saying. However, I still think he can break 30 goals

Am I the only one who thought Kane was successful as he was last year because he was far more judicious in his shot selection, and better - still not great, but better - in reading and respecting his linemates?

    I agree

  2. ROR is too hard on himself as it is. Adding the "C" to his sweater might break him mentally when things aren't going well.

I forgot about that thing. Well, makes the decision for Wowie easier

Possibly. But how much did taking the C off Schoenfeld's chest & putting it on Gare's mess w/ chemistry? Those Gare teams seemed stronger than Schoeny's but never got as far.

  3. They're not going to give the C to Jack unless he signs. Giving him the C without signing just ups his price.

I wouldn't use the same reasoning, but I can definitely see Jack not getting the C until he has a real season beyond what he considers "mediocre." (Basically, the season that would validate his contract asking price)

If O'Reilly gets it this year, and Jack has 80pts at the end of the year, no one (incl ROR) would be upset for Eichel to get the C the following year.

  4. He's 22 years old, so I don't think he's in the "he is what he is" territory yet.

Also, his linemates last year were guys like Moulson and Deslauriers. I wouldn't be overly excited to pass it back to them either. I think there's more skill in there than you do, and i'd like to see him given the opportunity to show it.

While I've been skeptical that Pommer can keep up with Eichel, I'd be very interested to see these as the top 2 lines, especially if it leaves Reino as the #3 center with a reinvigorated Pouliot and one of the kids as his wingers.

I read over this quickly, didn't see the "R," and thought I read "Leino," and almost had a heart attack.

Pomminstein has decent net presence.  When Vanek was a possibilty, I watched a video that showed all his goals last year.  A good many of them came with him either stationary next to the net, or cruising in late behind the rush.  I know Pommer and Vanek are not the same, but the point is that speed isn't the only way a player can be effective, and a wily veteran who's lost a step can be effective on an otherwise speedy line.

Especially if Kane, Eichel, and D-men are the primary impetus of the rush/zone entry.

but what happens when Girgensons turns it over entering the zone

Ok, we get it, you don't like Zemgus's play when he was playing with borderline NHL'ers. I still have memories of Zemgus's dangle vs. Detroit late in Nolan's last season. He has talent.

  5. That Bylsma chose a REALLY bad zone entry system last year should not be held against him (nor Moulson, for that matter.) It's not Sam nor Matt's fault that they were unable to retrieve pucks that they shouldn't have been lead forecheckers for in the 1st place.

I agree- I also think Samson at center supported by wingers with speed would be a win-win. But doesn't change the fact that I think there are multiple scenarios in which Samson's lack of speed could, indeed, be a liability.
