  1. Good call on "average"

For me, a better word for Sam's skating would be adequate - not a strength, but not a liability either.

I think it was a liability last season. Consider our zone entry problems. When people like Reinhart or Foligno were on the ice, opposing d-men knew they weren't going to get beat and could play more aggressively in the neutral zone, etc. I think it affected our zone entries in a big way.

Unless we get a Duchene type return for Evander Kane (a top flight defensive prospect and assets).  Pass.

Also, that's assuming the team really needs something like that. I think, if our current d corps has success, there is no need to consider letting someone like Kane go. Ideally, Kane also puts up good numbers, establishes chemistry, and signs an extension during the season  :flirt:

  2. Wow, you're just really misunderstood around here. The whole bringing-up-Kane-out-of-nowhere on this thread, followed by unsubstantiated rumors, accusations, and again questioned his work ethic.... I don't know. I'm not going to label whatever it is you have against him, but it seems pretty deep-seated.

  3. 1. I never said Kane was the locker room problem. They didn't name names. But as for his off ice issues, that isn't exactly "news".

    2. I know what I heard. It was last year, March or April, near the end of the season. They rarely talk about the Sabres at all so it caught my attention. Wasn't on this board or I would have brought it up then.

Off ice issues, if anything, are old news. Get over it.

Many people on the Sabres complained (publicly and reportedly) about things last year... none of whom were named "Kane."

  4. but would it really surprise you to think that the locker room last year was a mess too?

No, it wouldn't surprise me. And from now on, it won't surprise me when you present unsubstantiated rumors and speculation on certain players, particularly Kane.

  5. Hasn't proved anything? I know you're down on Jack for reasons but 11th in the league in points per game aint nothing.

I think he meant mediocre is "overstating," as in... mediocre is an understatement, and he overstated the understatement...

    er....

To the other point: ppg is great, but it's true- players have hot and cold streaks - ultimately, the most important number is what you put on the board after close to 82 games played, and that's where I think Jack and "We've" are coming from

  6. I don't remember Hetch ever playing center when Druey, Briere and Roy were here in 05-07

Hecht was a center because we lost all of our centers.

This all sounds right. None of it is relevant to the point that was being made, so...

  7. Vanek scored 40 goals on the third line. Hecht was a left winger.

Don't know what your point with these things is. Hecht played center a lot with us, and was a beast of a 2-way center. See here, and NHL.com's site, which list him as "C":

    https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/BUF/2007.html

I would love Samson at 3rd center, to be clear. I hope playing 3C and PP1 will satisfy his TOI inclinations, because I think it could be really good for our team.

  8. I just don't think HE sees himself as a 3rd line player so that'll be a problem.

I agree with this as well, and don't see why many here are refusing to see the validity. 3rd line is quite relevant when it comes to TOI, and Reinhart - 2nd overall pick - will probably want more; a "larger role." Isn't that why ROR was happy to leave the Avs?

Don't you remember how much worse we were when Vanek and Roy were grumbling about being stuck on the third line and Mike Grier and Jochen Hecht were playing way above their heads on lines one and two?

It was Vanek's 2nd season in the NHL, Jochen Hecht was one of the best/reliable 2-way centers we've ever had. Let's not compare our current roster to the one that won the President's trophy.

  9. It basically comes down to the fact that we, rightly or wrongly, trust the people that we've read on this forum for a long time. I know how nasty WNY can be in general about stuff like that but I truly believe that this forum is a haven of brilliance and equality and liberty and other Neo words.

Well, I don't know these people, but what you say is very encouraging. And maybe I am a little quick to assume things about WNY'ers.

Every criticism against him has been validated and expounded upon ad nauseam.

Not quite. Some I find quite tenuous. But perhaps the argument could be made that tenuous arguments are made regularly here, as well, for/against any player. That just wasn't my perception- that it was a "run-of-the-mill" tenuous argument, but maybe something worse.

As I said, I'll give people the benefit of the doubt.

However, I do take issue with having my posts pointed out as "obnoxious." Aren't we all entitled to an obnoxious post, every now and then?  ;)

  10. alright, I'm just trying to keep people honest. I'm a pretty fair-minded person, and I've just read some things that made my stomach turn. I'll try to give people the benefit of the doubt, unless it is something blatant.

I don't think it is for anyone

Not really possible to know. A lot of these things are veiled

  11. Nobody here dislikes Kane's play because of implicit racial bias

You should hear us talk about Nic Deslauriers, Josh Gorges, and Zach Bogosian

That's your view, and I respect that. There are many, many people here who seem to have somehow forgot that Kane led the team in goals. There are people who have said "he's a cancer in the locker room," when there are absolutely no reports during his time on the Sabres that validate that. And the comment about him not giving consistent effort- ?

At a certain point, I begin to wonder.

I thought he was the type of player Buffalo would love- fast, physical, scores goals... but everyone wants to trade him. And somehow they think his production is easily replaceable, the way the talk about it...

Some things just don't add up...

  12. What kind of "bias," exactly?

I think a majority of people here who watch Kane play would agree that, despite his flaws on the ice, he gives a 100% effort every night, throws his body around, skates hard, etc.

It is my opinion that a bias could lead someone to think his effort is inconsistent. Could be any kind of bias  ;)

  13. I was calling someone out who said Kane doesn't give a consistent effort. I think that is patently incorrect and a sign of bias.

All other points are valid (effectiveness in d zone, play-making abilities [or lack thereof]), but to Wildcard- we don't have to play 80s style hockey for it to be a factor that Kane is a physical presence that makes him harder to play against.

  14. Well that's not true at all

I know, it was an overstatement. But effort is something Kane brings - maybe even a little too much - to which you astutely pointed out, after the rib incident, he seemed to play a little more carefully.

If you have to point to a winger's effort in the d-zone to illustrate their overall "lack of effort," you're grasping at straws

  15. One trick pony, injury prone, inconsistent effort and all that other off ice stuff that may be a bad influence on the kids.

The scoring-goals trick is a pretty good trick. I'll take it.

Effort is always 100%. Start watching hockey games.

"all that other off ice stuff" - clear evidence of bias. What happened in the last year, off ice? Nothing. Get over it, he's fine. No reports of anyone in the locker room having problems with him; only some fans.

  16. With good slot receivers and good coaching, is it possible Tyrod can be coached to and still learn to be a better over-the-middle passer?

I found the quotes from the QB coach:

    Directly pulled from this article:http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2017/09/qb_coach_david_culley_says_buffalo_bills_cant_wait_to_unleash_tyrod_taylor.html

"That's all going to change Sunday, according to Culley.

"He can't wait to unleash it," Culley said. "And let me tell you this, we can't wait to unleash him. We're excited about Sunday with him. He can't wait. Again, talking about the preseason and maybe his struggles, we never saw it like that. We saw him as he's trying to get better at things. He's still learning a different offense. He's still learning how to be more comfortable in the pocket, and he did all that stuff. So we're comfortable with the fact that he's going through the process. Now, I would have liked for him to have not had a concussion against Baltimore and played into the third quarter, but that didn't happen. It is what it is.""

""But he was doing exactly during the preseason what we wanted him to do. Now that we're into the regular season, we just want him to be himself. These were just things that we wanted to work on to get better at. You play the game the way you play the game. He's an intelligent enough kid that he knows who he is, he knows what he is. Those things that we want to get him to improve on, he has worked tremendously to do that.""

Exactly what I was expecting, essentially. Let's see if it worked.

  17.

Yeah, it's called making $ and being famous

The girl proves nothing though. Sure, she's hot but he's young, fit, talented, already a millionaire, and already to be one 80 times over. The goofy hair and acne is easy enough to look past given his other redeeming qualities.

    Good for him, though
