Bills 1st place AFC East
-
alright, I'm just trying to keep people honest. I'm a pretty fair-minded person, and I've just read some things that made my stomach turn. I'll try to give people the benefit of the doubt, unless it is something blatant.
I don't think it is for anyone
Not really possible to know. A lot of these things are veiled
-
Wait, what?
Well, it's not his race, if that's what you're insinuating.
I'm glad it's not, for you guys.
-
Nobody here dislikes Kane's play because of implicit racial bias
You should hear us talk about Nic Deslauriers, Josh Gorges, and Zach Bogosian
That's your view, and I respect that. There are many, many people here who seem to have somehow forgot that Kane led the team in goals. There are people who have said "he's a cancer in the locker room," when there are absolutely no reports during his time on the Sabres that validate that. And the comment about him not giving consistent effort- ?
At a certain point, I begin to wonder.
I thought he was the type of player Buffalo would love- fast, physical, scores goals... but everyone wants to trade him. And somehow they think his production is easily replaceable, the way the talk about it...
Some things just don't add up...
-
FWIW, Someone I know on the "inside" - who has watched Beaulieu carefully - says he's a stud and just needs some confidence. He said he has tons of skill and we're lucky to have him.
-
What kind of "bias," exactly?
I think a majority of people here who watch Kane play would agree that, despite his flaws on the ice, he gives a 100% effort every night, throws his body around, skates hard, etc.
It is my opinion that a bias could lead someone to think his effort is inconsistent. Could be any kind of bias ;)
-
I was calling someone out who said Kane doesn't give a consistent effort. I think that is patently incorrect and a sign of bias.
All other points are valid (effectiveness in d zone, play-making abilities [or lack thereof]), but to Wildcard- we don't have to play 80s style hockey for it to be a factor that Kane is a physical presence that makes him harder to play against.
-
Well that's not true at all
I know, it was an overstatement. But effort is something Kane brings - maybe even a little too much - to which you astutely pointed out, after the rib incident, he seemed to play a little more carefully.
If you have to point to a winger's effort in the d-zone to illustrate their overall "lack of effort," you're grasping at straws
-
because it is the only thing anyone seems to be able to criticize.
-
Watch him in the defensive zone some time, then tell me about his 100% effort.
A winger in the defensive zone? Do wingers now have more responsibility in the defensive zone if their last name is Kane?
-
Both of these are pretty obnoxious.
The way some people talk about Kane here is pretty obnoxious. Tit-for-tat
-
One trick pony, injury prone, inconsistent effort and all that other off ice stuff that may be a bad influence on the kids.
The scoring-goals trick is a pretty good trick. I'll take it.
Effort is always 100%. Start watching hockey games.
"all that other off ice stuff" - clear evidence of bias. What happened in the last year, off ice? Nothing. Get over it, he's fine. No reports of anyone in the locker room having problems with him; only some fans.

With good slot receivers and good coaching, is it possible Tyrod can be coached to and still learn to be a better over-the-middle passer?
I found the quotes from the QB coach:
Directly pulled from this article:http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2017/09/qb_coach_david_culley_says_buffalo_bills_cant_wait_to_unleash_tyrod_taylor.html
"That's all going to change Sunday, according to Culley.
"He can't wait to unleash it," Culley said. "And let me tell you this, we can't wait to unleash him. We're excited about Sunday with him. He can't wait. Again, talking about the preseason and maybe his struggles, we never saw it like that. We saw him as he's trying to get better at things. He's still learning a different offense. He's still learning how to be more comfortable in the pocket, and he did all that stuff. So we're comfortable with the fact that he's going through the process. Now, I would have liked for him to have not had a concussion against Baltimore and played into the third quarter, but that didn't happen. It is what it is.""
""But he was doing exactly during the preseason what we wanted him to do. Now that we're into the regular season, we just want him to be himself. These were just things that we wanted to work on to get better at. You play the game the way you play the game. He's an intelligent enough kid that he knows who he is, he knows what he is. Those things that we want to get him to improve on, he has worked tremendously to do that.""
Exactly what I was expecting, essentially. Let's see if it worked.

Yeah, it's called making $ and being famous
The girl proves nothing though. Sure, she's hot but he's young, fit, talented, already a millionaire, and already to be one 80 times over. The goofy hair and acne is easy enough to look past given his other redeeming qualities.
Good for him, though

Buffalo could be 1st place in AFC East after Sunday?
:P
(no offense to Miami fans... stay safe, thoughts and prayers your way)

It is true, it was Beane
Definitely tempers all of the "start Peterman" talk
(which I am embarrassed to admit I was almost buying into a little)
-
I think this board underestimates the contributions that Johan Larsson made to this team last year before being injured.
I don't; it's more probable that I overestimate Zemgus's ceiling...
-
Charitably speaking, the emphasis there should be on the wink emoji.
I was getting tweaked for effectively saying "Thanks for agreeing with me. Please post more!"
Careful, I'll turn on you in a second ;)
Yes. Humor. Surely you've seen it before?
No malice intended, I promise.
Watch it, you're on thin ice as it is ;)

Or Girgs and Grumpy Larry battle it out for the final center spot.
And if GIrgs wins, trade the latter!
-
I know what you mean. Sycophants always come in handy ;)
?

What is the downside to spreading our six "best" forwards over three balanced lines — Jack/Pommers, ROR/KO, Sam/Evander?
Have Girgensons, Pouliot, Moulson and the Rochester four battle it out for the other three spots, with Grumpy Larry as the tenth forward.
I really like the idea of Sam centering Evander, even though I think the analytics say Eichel centering Evander was the most productive for both. I'd be curious to see the former, though.

He is going into his 8th year in the NFL. He is what he is.
Not as a starter, and with a new style offense and new coach. I agree he's not going to morph into a different QB, but maybe a coaching focus on a different offense can bring something else out of him?
Shooting in the dark for optimism somewhere...
-
With good slot receivers and good coaching, is it possible Tyrod can be coached to and still learn to be a better over-the-middle passer?
-
My man. Seems clear that, if Eichel were driving toward a value beyond $9M, he'd already be signed. I think that sentence makes sense if it had read "well beyond $10M."
Same thoughts
How much should Kane' s extension be?

Well, I don't know these people, but what you say is very encouraging. And maybe I am a little quick to assume things about WNY'ers.
Not quite. Some I find quite tenuous. But perhaps the argument could be made that tenuous arguments are made regularly here, as well, for/against any player. That just wasn't my perception- that it was a "run-of-the-mill" tenuous argument, but maybe something worse.
As I said, I'll give people the benefit of the doubt.
However, I do take issue with having my posts pointed out as "obnoxious." Aren't we all entitled to an obnoxious post, every now and then? ;)
