Again, cry me a river. With all the handouts and hand ups and free tuition, free child care, free housing it is easier than ever to reverse your fortunes if that's what you decide you want to do. As the first college graduate in my family despite being in this country for 250 years, I am living proof.

I also think this conversation is premature. Like Reinhart, JBOT looks to be taking a wait and see approach to Kane. I'm sure he wants to gauge his attitude both on and off the ice and wants to see his chemistry with Jack and maybe Sam (if at center) before even beginning contract talks.
If Kane stays healthy and plays well, then it may be an easy choice for Jbot to try to keep him. It will likely mean that Kane has developed good chemistry with one of the centers and the team is thriving under the new system.
I 100% agree.
I also expect this team to make the playoffs. I think those with the "ship him out at the deadline" will be sorely disappointed. I can see him being an asset to us in the playoffs.

I think Kane and the contract situation are going to surprise a lot of people this year.
Anyway, I voted for 5.5mil for 6 years in the poll. I'm just worried that amount would have to go up due to post McD/Draisaitl inflation

When RJ is calling the game, I feel like I can actually see the plays happening. When I listen to Dunleavy, I'm not even sure if it's hockey he's talking about, sometimes

You know, I'll never forget the day that Gailey was named HC. It was incredibly underwhelming to say the least, after some names that had been floated for being in contention.
That same afternoon, I was listening to the Jim Rome Show while driving for work - Jim Rome PANNED the choice. He said "Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting the Buffalo Bills new head coach, CHANNNN GAILEEEYYYYYY!!!!"
And the sound guy immediately cued that losing sound effect from the Price Is Right
I truly LOL'd! It would be hard for the old Bills ownership, management, and front office to fail more if they tried.
I was listening to the exact same broadcast. And I never tune in- I was on the QEW, driving to Toronto at the time...

I agree, neither are strong defensively. I think Wowie can find a better, more balanced line for Kane. I only mentioned it to show that he's capable of chemistry (many people here don't think he is)

Evander Kane worth 7mil X6 years and I can't get to that threshold. I put him at 6mil X4 years.
I think he's worth as much as Okposo, although I know they're very different players. The 6mil Okposo got turns into 6.5 or 7 with inflation

So, let's sum it up:
- Kane kept his nose clean recently, but he probably will do something crazy off the ice again, because he's Kane.
- No one has reported any locker room problems with him, but he probably is a problem in the locker room, because he's Kane
- He's scored on a 30-goal pace last year in a bad system for offense, but he probably won't again this year, because of math and the fact that he's Kane
- He could probably get 6-7mil on the open market, but we shouldn't give it to him, because he's Kane
- He and Eichel had their best offensive production when they played together, but that's not called chemistry, because he's Kane
- Chemistry and a chance to play with one of the best players in the league notwithstanding, he won't want to stay in Buffalo, because he's Kane

The Kane argument is never about ability, it's about value for your money in a cap world.

But honestly, I think it depends on a lot of things. I'm just predicting that he may very well prove to be and important piece for our team this year, and GMBot will look at him fairly (since his baggage is gone), and make the appropriate decision. If they can buy-out Moulson for his last year, maybe that'd free up cap space.
I don't know what the number would be. In the neighborhood of 6mil/yr? I'm not a contract/cap hit guru. But that may inflate to 7mil/yr, considering Okposo and Moulson were at 6, and I think the contract should be similar.

Is Kane hard to play against?
Yes, when you have to chase very fast players, you get tired. Especially when they also hit you hard

But what else does Kane bring besides those 30goals? That is my question. Every seems fixated on the 30goals but what else do I get? ROR scores 20goals but is a far more valuable player.
physical presence, hard to play against, opens up ice for other players. And I'll say it again, 30 goal scorers don't grow on trees. He's not a 2-way forward, but 2-way forwards aren't the only valuable players.
Now I'm just thinking... people just wanted to hate Kane when he arrived here, and I can understand that. He had a lot of baggage.
But that's over now, but so many people just don't wanna get over this. We wouldn't be having this discussion about so many other players.

No, you don't understand- we needed to trade him, to get the extra draft picks... so we can move up in the draft next year, and draft an elite receiver like him? Makes sense, right?
On another note, when we have our "franchise QB," this awesome defense we have now will be gone, right?
