  1. They’ll go when their contracts are up. They’re most likely not going to get waived to the AHL and take ice time and roster spots away from prospects. The Sabres aren’t competing for the Stanley Cup this year. It’s ok for them to be on the team. Asplund is 20 years old and has no North American experience. He’s not making the team while getting limited ice time in the bottom 6. He’s going to Rochester and playing in all situations.
  2. Girgensons is not getting waived. Larsson, maybe. But a very slight maybe. Botterill’s philosophy on development isn’t a secret, he’s stated it multiple times, unless you just want to ignore it. And it won’t even be Asplund to make the team in favor of a veteran getting waived, it would be Bailey or Baptiste or even Malone.
  3. Because that’s not how professional hockey works in most cases. You can’t just ignore Girgensons and Larsson’s contract status and experience in the league. Whether you like it or not, GM’s don’t just purge multiple players like that for completely unproven prospects.
  4. There’s probably a 99% chance he starts in Rochester barring multiple injuries. There is no need to rush prospects, and Botterill’s philosophy is to let them earn it in the AHL first, unless you are a high end prospect like Dahlin or Mittelstadt, which he isn’t.
  5. Why? I’m not sure why people hold opinions like this. Players like them are littered all over the AHL. They usually clear waivers and get sent down. It’s valuable depth you don’t want to just give away. They wouldn’t bring back any type return.
  6. Sexton literally said he’ll start in Rochester to get adjusted. There would need to be like 3 injuries on defense or he’ll have to have an all time great camp to make the team.
  7. I believe Botterill carried 8D most, if not all, last season. If everyone is healthy, Guhle, Pilut and Hickey will be sent down to start the year.
  8. I don’t think Mark’s sucks either. Basic is a good word. But it’s so low on the ladder of good pizza in Rochester. Speaking of Perinton, Perinton Pizza is pretty good. Joe’s Brooklyn right down the road is very good.
  9. Well yes, players will be waived like Bailey, Fedun, Tennyson etc. but I wouldn’t at all expect any big names from the Sabres to be on the waiver wire. I could see a trade, but the depth they’ve built up is a good thing, not something to tear down.
  10. Depends on the prospect. If it’s a high pick type player like Nylander they’ll be given every opportunity to play. Borgen will be in the top 6. Hickey? Remains to be seen. He’ll have to earn his spot.
  11. I’d think Bailey or Baptiste will be down. Both aren’t making Buffalo. You’re missing Redmond on D who will definitely be in the top 4. Hickey will probably have to earn his way into the lineup. MacWilliam is a very, very good defenseman and deserves to play initially. Also, Wilcox will be the backup.
  12. The only people who would fund a new arena is the Pegulas. Either they do it or don’t, I’d guess not. The city certainly doesn’t have the money.
  13. In his case, the latter. Keith from Let’s Go Amerks went back and looked at a lot of those assists and found they were mostly nothing.
  14. He was not good at all. He piled up a bunch of secondary assists and people used that to push the narrative that was turning the corner or playing well. Reality is he was a drag on the team mostly all year. And Taylor didn’t really punish him for it until the games truly mattered. The Amerks had a playoff spot locked up well in advance. The games weren’t all that meaningful. Once they were, it didn’t take long at all to be benched. He couldn’t handle the intensity of the playoffs.
  15. I think I’ve seen his “skill” only a handful of times in actual game action. He’s a practice all star. He doesn’t appear all that skilled against other professionals. Hard to when you never have the puck and lay in the weed along the perimeter.
  16. He’ll have a better season. It’s virtually impossible to be worse than he was last year.
  17. Johansson is not the other goalie on the Amerks. He will battle Wilcox for the backup job but will likely lose and be the starter in Cincinnati. They still need to sign a starter for Rochester. Likely on Sunday we’ll find out who.
  18. The USHL had more players taken than any of the individual CHL leagues. I think it’s clear the CHL has more elite talent, but the USHL is rapidly improving. Evaluation of what? Your problem with what he said makes no sense. He was asked how the USHL wa and he said it’s a very good league and has more older players than the CHL. I’d guess he’s right based on their own internal information. Nothing he said indicts the organizations one way or the other for any reason.
  19. It sounded like to me he was saying there are more 19 and 20 years olds overall in the USHL versus the CHL. And I’m sure they have access to more information internally than we do online.
  20. I mean, who really cares in the end? I didn’t add it all up, just did an eye test on the average ages. The USHL has 5/17 teams with an average age of 19 or higher while the OHL has 2/20. It’s obvious the USNTDP is an outlier in terms of average age in that league. But it’s splitting hairs.
  21. If it is an older league, I’d believe it. A quick look at teams average ages on Eliteprospects and the USHL does appear to have a bit higher of an average age per team. It’s a very underrated league.
  22. You also have to consider the CHL agreement with the NHL. It doesn’t allows players drafted from there to play in the AHL until they’re 20 by the end of the calendar year or 4 full seasons in juniors (I believe). European and college players can go to the AHL quicker if they're ready.
  23. Are you referring to Blackwell? He’s not a veteran.
  24. He was very clear that they want to, but it doesn’t appear imminent.
