  1. Not always, and especially not when it’s a prospect who may not play. They’ll absolutely call up a defenseman. If they do bring up a forward I’d expect it to maybe be Macinnis since they won’t really care if he loses playing time.
  2. Why? I don’t understand this line of thinking. They likely wouldn’t play him. So what’s the point? They need an extra D, not forward.
  3. The Sabres have no reason to call a forward up. They have 13 healthy forwards. Someone coming up will just sit in the press box. They will probably need a D eventually since they only have 6.
  4. There’s no reason to overthink this. They didn’t sign him to a contract because someone in Buffalo is out for a couple of weeks. The Amerks had a hole at C and he was signed to help Rochester.
  5. It’s sad. The Amerks used to be that franchise where you always expected success and always planned for games deepinto the spring. The last 15 years have been miserable. The Amerks were the preeminent and most successful franchise in the league up until about 2004, and it’s been an ugly slide ever since.
  6. No, it was updated to 2pm this season.
  7. This isn’t accurate. Waivers are at 2pm. You’ll know in 20 minutes if the Sabres claimed anyone.
  8. They needed to get down 1 more to get to 23. Has nothing to do with ABB.
  9. Pretty sure he’ll be sent down later today. They have too many players, and he has nowhere to play.
  10. I highly doubt they’re sending Cozens down, and if they send Bryson downs they’d only have 6 D.
  11. They pretty much have to send Peterka down. Roster has to set tomorrow and they didn’t waive Eakin or Hayden. The only way to get to 23 is sending a waiver exempt player down or making a trade.
  12. I’m waffling on how I think this Amerks team will be. There’s some good young talent. I think they probably should’ve signed one addition veteran scorer. I think the offense might struggle, especially with Oglevie out, and Rousek out for who knows how long. I like the look of the defense with Prow, Schuldt and Davidson as the veterans. I’m not a fan UPL at all, hope he can take the next step. Dell is historically a very good AHL goalie. Overall I think they’ll be competitive, but probably struggle against a team like Syracuse, who seems stacked again.
  13. This is a guy with a sub .900 save percentage in the AHL, and it’s not even close to .900. Based on his actual play, he hasn’t even earned a backup role in the AHL, let alone a starter. I understand he’s going to get the bulk of the games anyway, and he has a lot to prove.
  14. With young prospects, that’s only a small part of the equation. What’s best for development, contract situations, roster limits, and giving veterans the benefit of the doubt all go into consideration. Not saying you do this, but far too many people think picking a roster in the NHL is like selecting a travel team. There are tons of considerations that go into it beyond on ice performance. That said, I think he may have a chance to make the team still. Adams seems to want to give the young players more of a chance. I think if there’s a year where someone forced themselves onto the roster, it’s probably this year.
  15. Don’t think there’s a spot for him. He’s made a good impression, and now he’ll go to Rochester and play on the first line, and get a lot of PP time.
  16. The LetGoAmerks YouTube page has this game in its entirety, along with the season in review highlight video of the 96 season with all sorts of interviews. They also have the same highlight videos of the Amerks 1983 and 1987 Calder Cup seasons. They’re not too long and really fun to look back on.
  17. I have a yearly tradition to drink this on Christmas Eve. Outstanding beer, if you’re into darker and maltier beers. Wegmans usually sells is, though they tend to run out.
  18. One beer from 2 years ago turned you off from an entire brewery? Seems pretty odd to me. Their strength is their German beers, anyway. I would honestly say your loss, as they release new beers that at are quite good every month.
  19. Genesee literally had 8,000 people a week ago at the brewery for the keg tree lighting. I think some people have pretty outdated views of Genesee.
  20. Genny seasonals are the best bang for the buck out there. Their Schwarzbier for $9 a 12 pack is my favorite. The Genesee Brewhouse is packed every weekend of the year.
  21. Yes, they’ve been great. But Johansson is just now proving he can be an AHL goalie. They’re not going to rush him into the NHL next season. He’s not even the starter on the Amerks. Next season you’ll likely see UPL and Johansson as the Amerks tandem.
  22. No chance that’ll happen. It’ll likely be Johansson and UPL in Rochester next season.
  23. Amerks and Hershey playoff game in 1987. The Bears dressed several extra goons for warmups and attacked Andy Ristau. I think 3 of them had him down on the ice at one point and were kicking him. There’s a video of the brawl on YouTube. Jim Hofford won the game in OT for the Amerks and they went on to win the Calder Cup that year. True story, a couple fans in Rochester tracked down one of the Hershey goons that beat up Ristau in Rochester when he was a scratch and beat him up pretty good.
  24. This team is really impressive. I honestly thought they’d be average going into this season. Thought they lacked top end scoring, but the defense and goaltending have been phenomenal. And they e been winning without CJ Smith, Thompson, Elie and Leier. And maybe Asplund too.
