.For as much as an overwhelming majority of the fan base want change, outside of maybe some asst. coaches, the roster is where that change will occur. There are real time improvements that have been made, and to not acknowledge them while our frustration grows just doesn't feel right.

    1. Goaltending.......inside organizational growth has improved this position. No need to get in to the particulars, we all watch it.

    2. Defensive corps.......improved, the 2nd half of season gaa says it all, and while it's a complete effort, the defense has improved.

    3. Forward ranks........we all know the skill talent is there, need on ice leadership towards what some call grit, others call heart. For myself, it's called individual accountability from each player to dig down game after game to apply a full 60 min. effort. Leadership on the roster is critical for this in my opinion ad Donny can't throw on a jersey and join the in game action. Sure the coach can do some, make adjustments, hold players accountable, but it's the players that need to self police their own play imo.

So, from my view, we stay the course, continue to build the maturity of the roster, add those character leadership players in the off season and beyond. I'm very optimistic about this current teams future. I see an upward mobility in the standings in our immediate future.

"Steady as she goes, stay the course".'

Sorry bud, I tried desperately to be positive about this team but if Granato's leading this bunch 1 more year I think they'll be ruined. They don't learn from mistakes, they play soft, we've literally heard now at least 2 interviews where they've said "we thought this was going to be easy", no motivation, the coach doesn't discipline, the practices are weak according to former players and you can see it come game time. If UPL is for real and JJ Peterka continue upwards that is the absolute best I can do for positivity if Granato is leading this ship into next season, Adams need replacing also but Granato has to go.

    It’s a matter of perspective

Saying we have “crumbled” in the “playoff push” is a complete misreading of the situation. The real issue is that it wasn’t really a “playoff push” at all, the pace we needed to play at was ridiculous thus falling short isnt “crumbling” at all. The issue was by far the inconsistency over the course of the full season.

We aren’t playing poorly in “must win” games we’ve just left ourselves zero margin for error. The Sabres have played at a playoff pace during the last couple months of the season, they haven’t “crumbled”, they just aren’t good enough overall.

    I mean, ya

Coaches get changed because their message gets stale. Their particular strategy. Their X’s and O’s and the buttons they push. If the message that isn’t getting through is, “the score gets tabulated in the first period, too” that’s a PLAYER ISSUE

I disagree with your whole take... Missing the playoffs by 1 point isn't a playoff push? We were tops in the league in scoring the year before. Adams then added some guys he thought would help in the "playoff push" in Eric Johson/Clifton and thought that would be enough. I doubt many in here thought the entire roster aside from 3 players were going to regress.

This is on the players not the coaches, IMHO.

100% on coaches imo, no accountability in that building whatsoever. How can you practice everyday and preach everyday about compete and starting off way better then get into a game and start off slow/sluggish after practicing and preaching that the days leading up to a game? Then when these guys screw up they get rewarded with more playing time. This is why Granato is considered a great developmental coach but a very bad coach of men, he coddles them, shields them from danger but when we need them to elevate their game in crucial situations they crumble going on year 2 now of this so called playoff push.

Let's see how Levi does in the playoffs.  If he dominates , there is no need for him to spend another year down there.  What vet could you bring in that would be better than Levi as a backup ?

Again I would say, it's not all about points.   There is something to effort, willingness to battle. Skinner just isn't it. It's more of an indictment of skinner than anything else ... I don't think he should be on the roster any longer

I'm not sure a dominant playoffs makes up for how shaky he looked for most of the time  up here imo. Rolling it back for the 3rd time in a row is incredibly bad idea. Some names I know are available (could be re-signed) in Chris Driedger (SEA) 2.1 GAA/.917 save%, Cam Talbot (LAK) 2.48 GAA/.915 save%, Laurent Broissot (WPG) 2.1 GAA/.925 save%, Anthony Stolarz (FLA) 2.12 GAA/.922 save% compared to Devin levi's 3.10 GAA/.899 save%. Those guys I mentioned should not require more than a 1-2 year deal aside from maybe Driedger but even he most likely wont get a long term deal.

Now that we are on to next year ( once again before the playoffs start), it's time to project the lineup for opening night 24/25

this is my best guess of what the lineup will look like, trying to be somewhat realist

Top 6 - pretty well write this in ink

    JJP              Tage.         Tuch
    Benson        Cozens    Quinn

    Bottom 6

    Greenway      Jenner   Savoie
    Girgs.           Kulich         Carrier

    3rd line centre :

Option 1 - Jenner is going to be expensive but if anyone can pay the price it's the Sabres.   Krebs and a 1st round pick may entice the rebuilding bluejackets

Option 2 Sean Monahan - a UFA who can play 2 way game and win faceoffs.

    4th Line
UFA Carrier will bring the energy and physical play we all crave

Will have to decide to play either ease Kulich in a 4th line role or keep him in Roch 1 more season   What I do know , the guy will be ready for whatever the Sabres ask

if they prefer Kulich not playing on the 4th line, then they will dip once again in the UFA market for a guy like Colin Blackwell

    13th Skinner
    14th  Robinson

    Dahlin.     Byrum
    Power.    Samuelsson
    Johnson    Clifton

don't think we will see a top 4 RHD brought in   Just so few out there that fit the bill and the price of one will be too high

7 - UFA signing that many of us have never heard of

    UPL
    Levi

Levi will take Amerks deep into the playoffs proving he is too good for the AHL

Probably not enough change for a lot of you on the ice but I do predict a complete overhaul of the coaching staff

Plus, Trading for Boone Jenner will be costly and use up a lot of their trade capital

I like your enthusiasm but I just don't see why Boone jenner who is the captain of the dumpster fire CBJ would want  to come to an even bigger dumpster fire in the Sabres?

I also believe Ryan Johnson has surpassed Muel on the 2nd line imo.

Levi backing up UPL is a mistake, it's time for Adams to put the big boy pants on and go get a 1-2 year stop gap goalie who can alternate with UPL but also win us some game why Levi works on his game in the AHL.

I wouldn't mind adding Savoie, Kulich and Carrier although some here have said Kulich doesn't look ready yet. Have you been watching him? What's your take on him since I don't get to watch many Rochacha games.

Wow, the name calling, complaining, vulgarity, becuase a HOCKEY team we follow is losing?  Fire people!  Swearing in comments (or wanting to) so ***** must be used, Players and the team 'sucks ass', guys are 'useless' or 'wastes of space'. Really?   I think all of us want this team to win, but does being so negative, so full of hate and vitriol at a hockey team and needing to express it that way make all of you feel better?

You're on a message board with several different personalities, you can either ignore the hate, join the hate or don't come on a message board (I'm not trying to tell you not to come on btw) there are no other options brother.

  7. So now that we have Thompson 7.1M, Dylan Cozens 7.1M, Owen Power 8.35M, Mattias Samuelsson 4.35M, Jeff Skinner 9M, Alex Tuch 4.75M, Rasmus Dahlin 11M all on long term deals then where is there going to be enough room for all of UPL, Quinn, Peterka, Byram? Will there be an odd man out? Which 1 is it? Something has to give right? Do we buyout Skinners contract next season or the year after to make room?

  8. I don't think some are understanding, I by no means think negatively of UPL but we've just rewarded TNT, Owen Power, Dylan Cozens, Mattias Samuelsson, Rasmus Dahlin, all of which took a step backwards this past season so all I'm saying is proceed with caution. Giving a long term extention here for half a season of production in a contract year can be just as detrimental if not worse than giving the above players deals imo. I'm not saying don't give UPL a contract but I think a 2-3 year (prove you can do this full time from here on out, 4.5M per season tops) deal is the way to go.

No he wasn’t. He was a goalie struggling to come back from double hip surgery. He has always been a talented goalie.  24 is the beginning of the maturity curve for goalies.

UPL-Levi should be the long term plan starting next season. Bridge him for 2 year and see where Levi is then and make a decision at that point.

If that's your opinion that's fine but he was really bad and even hard to watch up until Jan, most here were looking to move on including myself. A bridge deal is definitely what he should get.
