  1. fixed

Like said before, we need a RHD if we sign antipin.

I thought Guhle was interchangeable but it's Antipin, he can play either side and has... I just got the player wrong so:

Line 1 RHD Rasmus Ristolainen    LHD Cam Fowler

Line 2 RHD Viktor Antipin               LHD Jake McCabe

Line 3 RHD Ryan Murphy              LHD Brendan Guhle

  2. How about LW Evander Kane to the Anaheim Ducks for RHD Sami Vatanen

Select LHD Miro Heiskanen 8th overall in the draft 2017 draft.

Or we can trade LW Evander Kane for LHD Cam Fowler and trade the 8th overall pick in 2017 draft to the CBJ , plus LHD Josh Gorges in exchange for RHD Jacob Trouba.

    We would then have

Line 1 RHD Rasmus Ristolainen    LHD Cam Fowler

Line 2 RHD Jacob Trouba              LHD Jake McCabe (USA baby)

Line 3 RHD Zach Bogosian            LHD Brendan Guhle/ Viktor Antipin or Dymitri Kulikov

  3. Nothing about him being interviewed, or even Sabres Interest in doing so.

Botteril or Fenton with Housley as HC will work if the dream can't be realized

GM Paul Fenton with HC Phil Housley would be an awesome step in the right direction imo. I'm hoping for this combo but won't hold my breath.

  4. Its been time. His value is good. We aren't shelling out what he'll want for his next contract, which by the way, is his set me up for term and money deal.

I agree, move him, bring in a pure LW, left handed shot. Eichel will have Baptiste on his RW next season moat likely. They need a pure LW'er. UFA isn't the answer this year. A couple of trades need to happen. Kane for D and Reinhart for LW in my humble opinion. Time to start building out the wings.

I wouldn't trade Reinhart at all, didn't we draft LW Alexander Nylander last season? How about moving O'Reilly to wing where he belongs and having Eachel/Reinhart up the middle and strengthen our 2 lines?

  5. Sounds like a good place for TP to visit, maybe get some insight.

A question about Lombardi; is he married to the heavy style of play he employed when in LA?  If he is, maybe he isn't the right guy for the Sabres.  I don't see Jack and Sam thriving in that system, but who knows.

I keep going back to Paul Fenton.  I know TP is unlikely to go with a 1st timer again, but considering the experienced names out there, such as Nonis, Gillis and Lombardi, the only one I'd even consider is Lombardi and as I wrote above is he a fit for the roster.  The answer is to get an older former GM, like a Dudley (but he is just an example) to serve as hockey ops president and put Fenton under him.  I think the fans and media would argue that TP is making the same mistake twice if he hires Fenton without another hockey guy above him.

I feel that Poile is the best GM in the NHL given what he has to work with.  If he says that Fenton is ready to go that is good enough for me.

Someone asked earlier how quickly this will get done.  IMHO two weeks at most, because the new GM with then need to hire a coach, decide on the system that coach wants to play and then review the roster to see how it fits with the style of play.  That's a great deal of work to get done before the expansion draft in late June.  That doesn't include hiring of scouts, making a draft list, getting a coach for Rochester etc......

I do hope that the new coach retains our goalie coach, Andrew Allen and PP coach Bob Woods.  It seems to me that these guys actually did a fine job this year and some stability in the two most successful areas of the Sabres might not be a bad thing.

I like Fenton also, think he'd be an awesome fit for us, doubtful though after hearing were looking for an experienced GM.

  6. Don't overspend in FA on guys who don't fit what were trying to do just because our owner gives you free reign to do it, Murray has made some really good FA pickups (Gionta, Okposo) but has really struck out hard on others (Moulson, Gorges, Ennis, Koulikov). I'd like to see the new GM take guys that fit exactly what were going to do scheme-wise, I really didn't see that with Murray.

  7. How about Kevin McDonald of the St. Louis Blues, he has been with a perennial winner since 2001, started off as a professional scout for them. 2003 he became director of scouting, in 2005 he was also given the title of Assistant GM, which he shares still to this day with Al Macinnis.

I've also been watching and reading up on Assistant GM Paul Fenton of the Nashville Predators, that team is almost always a playoff contender, he's been in the league for 18 seasons, 10 of them as the Assistant GM there in Nashville where he's been a huge part of the core players of Nashville, I think he's ready to take on the FT GM role.

Just some names to keep an eye on in this search.

  8. I'm probably in the minority it seems at least from looking at these posts but I don't see meddling owners, I see owners who want to win. I didn't hate Murray 1 bit but he made some really costly moves, free reigns in FA and draft, ended up with a washed up Moulson, total over payment of Ennis, trade for Koulikov was a disaster, He hired Dan Byslma as HC who was a disaster, a 1st round pick for Lehner who isn't bad albeit but nowhere near what we gave up to get him, went down in point standings, all that compiled with us not winning and I think the Pegula's did what most owners who don't see a winner on the ice do, they fired the GM and it was the right decision imo.

I just signed up here but I'm also on the HF message boards.
