Which is why we have no chance this year. If that is like 7-5 instead of 2-11 we’d be knocking at the door. I think it’s pretty clear now who we are. A very fast but very young and inexperienced with a ton of holes still in the roster. Likely a top 10 pick is more realistic in my view.

We are almost at 2/3 of a valid NHL roster. Progress. Albeit at this pace I’m not even expecting playoffs next year until we solve goaltending issues and defensive depth. Plenty of forwards in the stable at least.

Going to be tough but possible. I expect we will be picking somewhere in the 8-12 range in the draft. As is I simply do not see a way to consistently beat the good teams. Probably an 80 point season. 85 tops. Progress....albeit a bit too slow imo.

They got absolutely worked the first period. Second period they dominated for stretches but could not score. 3rd was split. Sabres came on strong middle of the period until the Crosby goal.

Competitive…but not good enough yet to beat good teams.

Good defense, discipline, good goaltending, great coaching… that’s the difference so far this weekend between these two teams.

Terrible start

It is fun when they blow out lesser teams 7-2 and 9-4, but realistically they need to learn how to win 3-2 games against good teams, and regularly to become a contender. They are getting closer. Nor do we have the goaltending or defensive depth. But at least they are fun and entertaining again. It is not our time yet. Lots of young guns still in the stable that will arrive the next few years. The main question I think is goaltending.

The bad news is UPL is in net tomorrow. This was our chance to grab 2 points.

The difference between a young and talented team vs a well coached veteran team was on full display. I expect a lot more heartbreaks like this all year. It’s the price that has to be paid to learn.
