Agreed. They will eventually get a decent prospect for Eichel. Add that we will have a shot at some star power in the draft next year and add Power. Realistically we are 3-4 years away from being competitive again. Need time for all these kids to develop plus find a franchise goalie.

I doubt it. This is a NHL rich market. Hockey is loved here. We have just been grossly mismanaged on an unprecedented level in modern sports history. Its blunder after blunder after blunder for 15 years now.

They are fielding what could be one of the worst teams of the modern era and they are not even shy about it. Completely devoid of any stars or NHL caliber goalie. Not many are going to shell out their hard earned money to see that.

Maybe KA is going for the record of GMs that finish the most times in a row in last place and keep their jobs.

I agree. I actually think Don is the right guy for this job. His skill is developing young guys. That will be our theme for the next 4-5 years. I don't think we can realistically expect to be a playoff team for 3-4 years. This is year is 2015 all over again. 50 points might be reasonable.

We are fielding an AHL level squad this year. That is not an exaggeration. It's hard to believe a team can be this badly mismanaged.

This is probably new territory. The Sabres hold all the cards. You simply cannot be on the hook for that much money if the surgery does not go well and your insurance company will not back it. Jack does not have many options unless another team is willing to take the risk. It will be interesting to see how this ends. But i doubt the Sabres blink. They would be at extreme risk.

Ultimately Eichel did not want to be here. KA is repeating that mantra over and over about players “wanting to be here”. The injury was a perfect excuse to get out of town like several of the others. This is a unique situation where an established franchise needs a complete reboot.

Cozens will likely be the captain in another year. He showed more heart in 3 weeks than Jack did the whole time. Jack is a great player but there is something very wrong. Similar to Aaron Rogers. He’s toxic. I don’t mind KA sending a clear message. It had to be done. This is unfortunate but we have to cut our losses and start over.

Our coaching staff lost this game. Bottom line. They are still inexperienced. Pittsburgh’s entrenched culture helped them win this. We are still a young team with young coaches. We overachieved the past few years, now we have to learn to play up to potential with a target on our back. Our offense is not a surprise to anyone anymore. Coaches need a better game plan. If it is the Eichel surgery it is almost certain a deal is in place and will be kept under wraps. Maybe the new agent talked Eichel down from it if he wants to get out of here.

Here in Florida it’s raging worse than ever (but we are “free” according to our governor). I know dozens of people here in town who are sick. Whole families even. 4 in the hospital and one just died two nights ago 50 years old. Our friends grand daughters whole class tested positive one week into school. One kid ended up hospitalized. The thing in common they all share: none were vaccinated. A nurse we know said the vast majority coming in are unvaccinated. It’s beyond disturbing how weirdly politicized and the conspiracies that are virtually non stop. Certain political streams are really having a destabilizing effect on this nation. Just the reality. Sadly my “Qanon” buddy at work, wife is in the hospital with it. Belief has consequences.

What a sad way to go out. But age has taken its toll. In his prime RJ is amazing. Our press box will now be subpar like the rest of the team.
