That said, if it doesn't happen, it's because Adams has no problem with doing his FA work with Eichel still on the books.

I'm sure Adams has no problem with it.  My concern is Minny et al will be spending in FA and may not have cap space for Jack after tomorrow?

Let's just hope it's a fair deal and it happens today.  I think it starts getting much more complicated after that.

Not that I'm undervaluing him, but he can't be the biggest piece in an Eichel deal because he's not a C. I don't think we can/should trade Jack for a package not including that piece

Agreed.  All we essentially have down the middle is Cozens and mitts.  We need another high end C prospect if we’re trading Jack.

At this point I'm not sure there's much else to say on the potential Eichel trade.  We've all put forward trade scenarios that make sense for the Sabres from our perspective.  We keep hearing that other teams don't want to include A+ prospects (which doesn't make sense to me because Jack is taking the place as their new #1 center so give future quality for a for sure thing).  Until we get some credible news about a potential trade scenario it's hard to keep speculating.

I don't know how to improve the "health situation" uestions.  It didn't help that Adams said he did not know if Jack was skating again (like his agent said).  Is he improving as expected he would with rest, physio, and exercise?  Does he really need surgery?  If so what's recommended?

Taking back salary?  Okay with me but then again Adams said that he doesn't want veterans taking away ice time and critical game situations from the young core (he said that in regards to FA's).  So perhaps we take back a dead contract where the player is on injured reserve.  We do have a need for a veteran or two on the blue line in my opinion ideally on the right side.  We do have a need for a goalie veteran even if Ullmark resigns with us.  It's easy to take back money but I don't blame Adams for being selective with what he takes back.  The players have to fit the team and help build the team's culture.  Perhaps the best thing would be to consider salary retention (but that just sounds nuts to pay for part of Eichel's salary to play for another team).

Or you take back salary but still play those guys where they belong in the lineup.

We'd have to take on a contract for sure and they have some terrible ones.

If it's 2 or years or less then the Sabres would be crazy to not include them.

You are trading the whale here.  They have to get back elite assets and nobody is going to pay that unless money is coming back in the deal.

If that's true, which I'm not sure it is, then it sounds a lot more like Pegulas are selling the team. Owners that sell teams always move the biggest contracts they have away from the team to make it more attractive to potential buyers.

Well yeah, nobody wants a Skinner contract coming back.

As long as they stay in Buffalo I would so welcome an ownership change.

Minnesota makes so much sense for both sides.

Michael Russo who covers them for the Athletic has reported Minnesota wouldn’t be adverse to allowing Him to have the procedure and if the Sabres would take the 10 million in salary back the deal would probably be done.

THEN ***** TAKE BACK THE MONEY SO WE CAN MAXIMIZE THE TRADE.

Jesus Christ I don't know how TPegs made money in the oil and gas industry.  Yes, you want Eichel gone, but don't be so pig headed to exclude cash coming back on the deal.  It increases your return.  Probably dramatically in a flat salary cap era.  If you give Jack away you will continue being a bottom feeder and the building will be empty.  Take some cash back in the deal to maximize the return and maybe within 2-3 years the core and foundation is here to start winning sustainably which will in turn line your pockets.

If what is reported is true and the Sabres are unwilling to take back some money then the owner is undercutting his own franchise. It's short-sighted and maddening.

    This times 100000000%.

Short sighted and it's going to bite them in the ass the EXACT same way it did with ROR.  Like, did we just go through that situation and saw exactly how well it played out for the Sabres.  Unbelievable if this is true.

Why?  We have to use FA to plug those holes anyway. One and two years is not a problem now with Reinhart and Risto gone

Agreed.  As long as the contracts are 2 years or less then the Sabres should take any cap dump to offset salary.  That is how you will maximize the return.

Sabres are obviously rebuilding again and arn't in win now mode for 2 years.  If this can get you Rossi and Boldy plus then you have to do it.

The Sabres are the worst run organization in all of professional sports. How did we get this far?

Agreed.  Seriously, how did we get here?  In a salary cap era it is pretty unbelievable to have missed the playoffs for this long AND run out probably one of the worst Sabres teams since the tank for next season.

They are the absolute champion of minimizing the assets they posses.  There are so many smart hockey minds out there.  Just so frustrating seeing GM after GM continue setting this franchise back.

  9. Since KA arrived he: passed on Rossi for Quinn (time will tell), ignored the NEED to upgrade goaltending last offseason, brought in a bunch of guys with terrible analytics that played terrible, made a nice Risto trade but follows it up with this Sam *****.  Now we find out he hasn’t even communicated with Jack?

Why are the Sabres going with a rookie GM to make such franchise altering moves???  This Jack trade CANNOT look anywhere close to what the rumoured Sam deal is.

Ullmark is a 90 point goalie on the last 2 sabres teams, as bad as they are. He's better than you give credit for, and his main issue is health

I don't think you can ignore his injuries.  We relied on him last year and it burned us.  KA better not make that obvious mistake two years in a row.  I'm fine bringing Ullmark back but we need a good #2 to push him or not light the season on fire if he is hurt....again....
