I'm going to sum up my feelings on today with this:

Building a reasonably functional hockey team cannot be as difficult as the last two GMs made it seem.

I think Murray made it look pretty easy, I just don't think he had enough time.

The way he pulled in guys like O'Reilly and Kane, even Lehner, looked very easy...and in hindsight, he didn't give up as much as some think.

The drafting has been bad under every GM, which begs the question...HOW DOES KEVIN DEVINE STILL HAVE A JOB?!?!?

Philosophical differences? What did they discuss when they interviewed him a few years ago?

I think this speaks to Botterill being a lame duck had he stayed on...everyone knew his job was on the line.

I assume they didn't want him operating with that looming over his shoulder.

Would he actually try to trade Eichel to save his job? Did he want to keep things together and they wanted to blow things up? Along those lines.

Maybe it’s time to think about trading our number one pick this year for a solid ready to contribute player

I know we say it every year, but they really shouldn't trade their pick this year.

We're guaranteed  one of Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi, Perfetti, Holtz or Raymond...and we desperately need a prospect of that caliber, especially a goal-scoring winger.

I think a solid off season would be to trade Mittelstadt for Puljujarvi, and sign Erik Haula as a 2C. Hopefully the abundance of Fins on our team can lure him in. Cirelli will be too costly to trade for and an offer sheet is unrealistic. Roster would look like this:

    Olofsson - Eichel - Reinhart

    Skinner - Haula - Kahun

    Johansson - Cozens - Puljujarvi

Lazar - Larsson - Okposo (If no CBO)

    Dahlin - Miller

    Montour - Jokiharju

    McCabe - Ristolainen

I see no way in which Botterill isn't fired if he doesn't find a 2C, so I am curious to see what happens this off season.

Holy barf emoji...that would totally be a Jason Botterill trade though.

I agree completely. I think if we also get decent improvement from Joki, Kahun gets comfortable, and Skinner bounces back, it's enough to make them a playoff team regardless of what's done at 2C.

    Holy optimistic outlook, Batman.

This team is so far out of the playoff picture, it's comical at this point...they are going nowhere with Botterill and Krueger as their top duo.

    Added incentive to Olofsson’s contract.

What incentive? His brother will be playing an hour away on an AHL deal.

Agents aren't that stupid...(Victor) Olofsson will get his money and they know that Botterill will be desperate to keep him, just like Skinner.

As for this signing, meh...I'll be surprised if he scores 15 goals for the Amerks.

  7. Damn, I really miss good Sabres hockey.

Those were some of the best years of my life...and I owe a lot of that to the Buffalo Sabres and the entertainment and excitement they gave me.

    Sounds corny, I know.

The goal at 3:20 was so big

Serious nostalgia watching these videos...hopefully better days are ahead.

  8. Mittetstadt and a 1st for Adam Henrique? Bleh. We gotta be able to do better than that. I really don't want to trade Mittelstadt right now.

Also, Anaheim is pretty stacked with young centers like Zegras, Steel, Terry, Lundestrom, Morand and Groulx...they would probably want a young defenseman.

(This isn't a roster reconstruction, this is an organization reconstruction...we have 27 total free agents, not just 15...which makes this even more important.)

What was it..  6 weeks where he had that black/blue mask?   Those aren't even Amerk's colors.

Reminded me of this story on Jack Campbell and thought of how inept the Sabres organization is...

    https://theathletic.com/1599625/2020/02/11/how-did-jack-campbell-get-his-leafs-gear-so-fast-inside-the-mad-dash-to-get-goalies-suited-after-a-trade/

...summary is that it took <24hrs to get Campbell's gear wrapped in Leaf's colors.

Jonas Johansson not having a Sabres mask makes the Sabres organization inept?

Man, we're REALLY reaching for stuff to complain about nowadays.

(As someone else pointed out, it's up to the player and ultimately his call.)

  10. I've honestly been wondering if we should've taken Andrei Svechnikov...the kid is an absolute stud and only getting better. (Granted, Dahlin still is too.)

EDIT: This doesn't have as much to do with Dahlin, as it does with how putrid our offense is.

Girgensons is having the second best season of his career.

He has as many goal as guys this board has pined for like Ryan O'Reilly, Boone Jenner, Robert Thomas, Ryan Dzingel, and Kevin Fiala.

He would sit just outside the top 50 in the league in goals for LWs, even though nhl.com still lists him as a centre.

And this is being trotted out as an example of a bad thing?

    I guess I'm not surprised

Did you really just compare Zemgus Girgensons to Ryan O'Reilly?

With O'Reilly this team is in the playoff hunt...without Girgensons this team still sucks.

I wouldn't, because of his contract. For the amount of money he got paid, you cannot consider this a good move.

I think the disconnect might be more with Skinner and the coach. Skinner has not been good this year, plays selfishly, takes dumb penalties, pouts, has a temper he can't seem to control, to me he behaves like a diva and perhaps he's the proverbial "uncoachable."  Hard to know, but I suspect Krueger and him aren't on the same page so to speak.

So he's everything Carolina fans said he is? Go figure.

  12. I'm at a breaking point with this team too.

I think of my Father, who passed away in 2008. Some of the last words he ever spoke to me were, "I hope you see the Sabres win the cup someday." I can't imagine how heartbroken he would be, he was one of the biggest Sabres fans I've ever known. Nothing gave him joy like watching the Sabres with his family.

That elusive Stanley Cup has never felt so far away for me. It's hard for me to even watch the games, I usually just fall asleep or end up on my phone/laptop.

For once I don't blame my nephews for wanting to find new teams to root for...this is becoming so bad, I've thought about it too. (But it's impossible for me.)

I don't trust Botterill. I don't trust Krueger. I don't trust the Pegulas. I feel like this is going to go on so long that we'll see Jack Eichel force his way out of here.

I don't care about jersey colors, giveaways, or 50th Anniversary celebrations, all I want is to see this team playing hockey in April and May again.

Sorry for my rambling. It's hard to put my thoughts together when I think of this team. It hurts to talk about. I love this team but it's eating me up inside to watch this mess. I really hope they can get it together this summer and put a better roster together. This can't go on much longer or I might just lose interest.

  13. They're already in sell-mode and Doug Wilson is trying to get first round picks...

"After surrendering his top selection in this year’s draft to the Ottawa Senators as part of the deal to get defenceman Erik Karlsson in September 2018, the word is Wilson is embarrassed that could be a lottery selection because of the backwards turn the Sharks have taken this season and, as a result, he’ll try desperately to get a first-rounder back at this year’s deadline."
