  1. I've read every post since May 10th (the inception date?) hoping to come away with some insight as to who the Sabres have a good chance at drafting.

The only thing I know for certain is that this is going to be one wild and crazy draft. The top 5 aren't even a sure thing.

The mood swings come next week will be awesome to read.

I seem to remember US talking about it.  I’m not sure Adams ever said a thing.

I remember talking about it with at least Liger. Kisakov lead to a discussion if part of a scout's job description included interviewing other family members and reporting back their findings as to assumed heights and weights to help judge future growth of an 18 year old.

It was agreed that was a part of their job.

  3. "Cataractes" is the plural form of "cataracte", which means in English 'cataract' in the sense of a powerful waterfall, derived from the Latin word "cataracta" meaning 'waterfall' or 'portcullis'. The team is named after the Shawinigan Falls, a prominent waterfall in the city of Shawinigan

Had to post this. I had no clue what the team name meant.

Nadeau likes to be in close to the net and appears very crafty/sly staying around it without taking a beating.. Great way to make a living in the NHL.

    I know.

Hence my thinly veiled* attempt at a humourous reply about it's really the other Soupy's cup.

Maybe neither of us are quite ready to give up our day jobs, eh !!??

You're absolutely right about me not giving up my day job. A vailed tip of the hat to you for the correct veil and some Audrey Hepburn, even if she is smoking.

    Wrong Soupy, my friend.

It's Clarence Soupy Campbell that's got his name all over that trophy.

It was thinly vailed attempt at some chunky soup humor, served in a big (really big) silver cup with a lid. The lid keeps it hot.

right, but Trotz, Cassidy, Tortorella, DeBoer...etc

GMs and Owners know their game plans and history and feel that they are or aren't the right fit for the team they have assembled and hire accordingly. Bringing in new blood is inherently a higher risk.

Seems to me that the Sabres have signed UFA's to one year deals in abundance though.  Some might be keepers, but most have moved on.  If you statement is qualified by "high quality", then yes...that thins the herd.

Do we want low quality UFAs and let our *good kids* play in Rochester?

Isn't that what this all boils down to?

Play the cap game or pay over priced Jags?

It's just a really smart move by a GM that can easily be called cheap.

The great thing about Okposo is you do NOT have to give him the 'C' for him to be effective at leading this current team.

-Give him the C and I think you have a good captain for a year.

-Give him the C and tell him if he resigns a new deal next year he may or may not have the C and I think he'll be fine.

-Give the C to someone else and give him a "A" and I think he'll be fine.

-Give the letters to younger guys and ask him to keep being a leader without a letter and I think he'll be fine.

With Okposo, I think, is that you can make decisions on who is or isn't ready to be leaders in the rest of the room and then based on that ask him to take the role you want, and he'll be good no matter what.

Sounds like the best captain a team could have.

I still think this would be a big mistake. The guy might be a respected veteran but naming a 4th line player on the downside of his career as team captain would be a huge mistake for team progress. He's not a core player and he's likely deadline trade material.

I still say it should be Tuch.

A big mistake was the last captain. Kyle has EARNED it.  No-one else on the team has earned it yet.

The Ullmark non-signing is a big deal that has reverberated into this season. The GM miscalculated. And it hurt the team.

Again, you assume that Adams did not match Boston's  offer and it's all Adam's fault that he did not sign. Ulmark was free to make a decision to go where he wanted. He chose Boston.

I didn't say that Ullmark would sign if Adams matched Boston. He wanted a richer contract from Buffalo. The GM should have paid it.

He never said that. It was never said that Adams needed to offer a richer contract and he would sign. You are assuming that.

I know I will elicit a blistering reflexive comment from @LGR4GM but not signing Ullmark last year at the contract that he was willing to sign for was a mistake. It put this franchise in a bad situation not only last year but also this year. A little more foresight and flexibility would have better served this franchise. This is a case where the GM outsmarted himself. This was a glaringly bad decision.

You keep saying that Ulmark would sign if Adams matched Boston, yet nothing I have read said this is true.

It doesn’t give Vegas bonus space; merely cleans out Dadonov’s cap. If anything it could backfire as there is a limit on LTIR space total.

Presently Vegas has 5.2mil in cap space with Weber on LTIR
