@nhlupdate: Don Maloney says if the 3rd overall pick had to be made today, he'd know who they're taking.
@azc_mclellan: Maloney approached by 3 teams about what it would take to trade 3rd pick. "If there's a deal there, it'll be on the draft floor."
I feel like Arizona is going to go the offensive route, but in a few years a pairing of Hanifan and OEL would be fun to watch. I think that if they weren't in financial trouble, Hanifan would be the pick but offense sells.
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Toronto wanting Strome to fall to them at four. If Arizona takes him, what are the chances they aren't sold on Marner and try to move that pick?
Edit: http://www.torontosun.com/2015/06/09/pre-draft-talks-heating-up-shanahanI guess this answers my question. As a secondary question, I wonder who the second player TO is high on. I'd really like to have Marner on this team, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Still more than two weeks to go, but I am ready to be the first draft geek here to handicap this draft for Buffalo.
Great write up! I would take a chance on Zacha. There's a reason he was so highly rated coming into the season. I get that the suspensions may be worry some, but I think he would be a great fit.
-
No I wouldn't. We have no way of gauging the team going into the 2015 season. They could easily miss the playoffs and with the new lottery end up pick 1-3. It would be foolish for a rebuilding team such as Buffalo to trade their 2016 first round at the 2015 draft.
I would argue that Marner will be better than everyone in that draft, less Matthews. I'd rather get Marner than have a chance at Matthews.

You are right, I based it on this portion of the article
The message from the Leaf camp: They’re open for business. The idea could well be to trade the fourth overall pick for another first-round pick as well as a second-round pick, giving the Leafs three picks in the first two rounds instead of two. The Leafs don’t have their own second-round pick, but they do have Nashville’s first-round pick from the Cody Franson trade.
The Leafs probably would not take that much of a drop for four, but if that package lands you in the top ten and Provonov is available I would do it in a heartbeat.
If the Leafs asked for 21, NYI Pick and next year's first what would you say? I wouldn't do it myself.
Isn't 21 the NYI pick? If you mean 31, 21 and next year's first, I absolutely do it. Marner is a terrific talent and will be better than Tofolli, so we wouldn't need to make that offer sheet (not that we would be able to then).
EDIT: Didn't mean to link that video, but it will do. Just know there are more impressive ones out there.

Based on history, Murray will make a big trade and overpay again.
Isn't it a little early to say that Murray overpaid for Kane/Bogo? Armia, Lemieux, and Kane have all yet to play for their new teams. If only Kane makes it, isn't Bogo/Kane for Myers and a pick a steal? Maybe it's viewed a little different if Stafford gets an extension there, but I'm pretty sure most people around here are indifferent when it comes to him.

Okay I am not finally caught up with everything.
Tim Murray's draft should be interesting. I am not sure who they will target at 21 but it sounds like he wants to move up. I know this was already covered but I would be curious to see if he can move up and where he would move up to. With 21 and 31 you could move up what? 8 slots or so? Seems roughly about right. Wondering if he likes Werenski or Meier in that 10-14 range.
It's probably not too realistic, but I'd love for them to try and move up to get Marner. He would fill a position of need and could possibly be NHL ready. I would think it would take at least 21st and 2016 1st. Having watched Marner play quiet a few times, I would rather have a guaranteed him over a shot at Matthews and the top three next year.

I would be really pissed if the Sabres move Zadorov. We have such a great D-Corp and Risto,Zadorov,Pysyk and McCabe are my locks right now.
Someone around here floated the idea of Nikita, Grigs, and a pick for ROR and I always figured that would be around what COL would look for. As long as we are able to lock up ROR afterwards, I think I'd be okay with it.

I was pretty certain that Denis Hamel was going to be a perennial all-star and then the Islanders went and screwed that one up. I still dislike them because of it.
As others have said, I still believe in CoHo so that one could always come back and make me look pretty dumb.

Interested to see what the locals think of the Hamilton move. I picked him up on a flyer in fantasy and am rooting for him to play well and get his life back on track, but I assumed the Dallas folks might have mixed feelings since he did slam them after leaving.
I've got a pretty full outfield so I didn't pick him up, but I recommended him to some of our teams who weren't doing very well. I had a feeling he would come out blazing and since he has, I'd try to get as much from him in a trade. I'm not sure if you're in a keeper or a redraft league, but if it's keeper, there's a lot better youth options struggling you could move him for.

The thing that fascinates me about this draft is the #21st pick.
I think Murray will move up, but if he can't..........I could see Murray doing something like this....
#21 to Ottawa for G Robin Lehrner and RW Tobias Lindberg. In other words - trade the pick to get a speedier return on the development timeline - even if it was a previously drafted prospects that Murray knows well....*
* Don't kill me for the simile - I just think Murray is liable to do something like this.
I didn't know too much about either of those guys, so I just looked them both up and that seems like too little for the pair of them. Maybe that's where one of eiter Bailey or Bapitse could come into play.

I know the NYP has said Rick Nash could be moved if the Rangers want to have a makeover this offseason. They speculated about a deal centered around Rick Nash for TJ Oshie, Alex Steen and Jaden Schwartz. No way in giving all that for Nash, but I think Oshie and Steen might be a good deal.
If I'm NYR, I'm all over that deal. Nash/Tarasenko on the same line probably sounds pretty good to the Blues management, but that's a lot to give up.

Toronto Sun says it seems likely that the Coyotes will be taking Dylan Strome at number 3: http://www.torontosun.com/2015/05/30/maple-leafs-have-tough-decision-for-june-draft
I think that's probably the safer play, but I really believe Marner has the higher upside than Strome. I went to a few games of that playoff series and Marner really blew me away.

Bylsma officially hired by Sabres. Give up a 3rd round pick next year as compensation.
So does that mean it wasn't ours?
-
Teddy Nolan was a fine coach and an admirable guy. His coaching (not his coaching style) was no longer what the Sabres needed. Time for a new coach.
I'm sorry, but if Nolan was a fine coach he wouldn't have so many issues finding and holding down a real job. OHL teams don't even want to hire him, what do you think that says?
Also, and this isn't directed at you necessarily, but what makes Nolan so "admirable?" I've seen that sentiment before and I've never understood it. Between the rumors from his first stint and his lack of relationship with GMTM, I don't see how anyone could believe Nolan was some great guy.

1. In hockey 9 times out of 10 what you see at face value is what it is. – Tim Murray (True or False?)
2. In the wake of Babcock signing with the Tront, Dan Bylsma is the coach that would bring Buffalo the most league-wide credibility. (Agree or Disagree)
3. Do something with #21 in the 2015 Draft. Choose one: (A) Take Pick, B)Trade Up, C) Trade for Player

Are you saying that Harrington didn't write it, or that it is not considered a headline?
Harrington more than likely did not write it.

You've met my ex? She'd gag on chihuahua dick after he took a dip in Lake Erie in February.
This is fantastic

Here's the story on NBC Sports...http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/10/report-auston-matthews-signs-in-swiss-league/

Auston Matthews has allegedly signed to play with the ZSC Lions of the Swiss Hockey League.

I'm going to savor first place for the next 12 hours, since by tomorrow I'll be out of contention.

Not counting 2015 kids:
1.) Sid
2.) Ovie
3.) Geno
4.) Price
5.) Tavares
6.) Stamkos
7.) Weber
8.) Toews
9.)Subban
10.) Getzlaf
Next ten include Karlsson, Doughty, Kane, Seguin, Giroux, MacKinnon, Benn, Lundqvist, Ekblad?, Kopitar
Think I'm forgetting a few, Perry somewhere, Tarasenko, I dunno.
We've got essentially the same players, but not top ten. I don't take Crosby at one just because of longevity issues and his history of concussions. That's not saying I don't think he's the best player, just not first pick.

I wish I was more familiar with the Buffalo hockey scene. I'd love to be playing weekday nights here during the summer but I'm not familiar with the various leagues rinks run or what their sub policies are. Or really even which rinks run summer leagues. It took me six years just to figure Rochester's scene out.
Come play with me! I play Sunday and Wednesday through http://anytimehockey.com/skater-game-finder/. Just not next week because I'll be out of town.

I was looking at some different brackets and just noticed that Eleven and I have the same exact bracket going forward, the only difference is he Price Is Righted me on total goals in the final.
EDIT: I lied, he had Vancouver over Anaheim for the next round.

It definitely takes some chances. If the draft were to stay true to the board and Zacha is available at 21, I would be ecstatic. Even with his down year, watching him in the playoffs this season against Erie was a treat. I don't remember if it showed on the scoresheet, but I thought he looked very physical and didn't lose many battles. He did spend some time in the box though, which seems to be a big issue for him.
