  1. He's a top 5 pick overall. Murray has made a blockbuster trade with Winnipeg that ended up with the Sabres gaining two top 5 overall picks in Kane and Bogosian. I don't think Murray targets anything other than elite talent sets. Established 60 point + guys are hard to find and rarely come available.

I just feel like he's undersized and closer to Ennis in terms of play than he is Kane. I think the appeal of Kane was his physical game and also why we swapped Myers and Bogosian. Nichushkin is a RW who comes to mind as a Murray type player. Large, physical, and can score. I doubt the Stars would consider trading him, but they do need help defensively and he's coming off injury.

  2. I still don't really understand the O'Reilly chatter. He is a left handed shot and would not solve our weakness at RW. I think GMTM has identified a few RW targets and is awaiting word on the prices.

My guess is the trade is for Eberle, with the primary piece being Zadorov. That gives a top 6 of Kane-Eichel-Eberle; Moulson-Reinhart-Ennis with Grigo and Zemgus as a strong C/LW combo on the 3rd line.

Totally agreed on the bold. They are the cornerstone pieces.

What makes you think Eberle is the type of player Murray would be interested in? I really don't know much about him, other than he's not overly physical and under six foot. Stat wise he seems like someone I'd like on the team and his cap hit isn't awful by any means.

Sorry if this was posted already but...

Was Connor McDavid an out of court settlement???

    :o  :o

Playing devil's advocate, why would the NHL listen to an OHL team for a court settlement? I'm pretty sure that if the owner of the Otters walked up to Bettman or whomever they would have to talk to and asked them to give Edm McDavid, they would be laughed out of the building.

  4. I feel like I've been waiting a lifetime for this moment.

What are the first 2 numbers we want to come out because they give us the best odds thereafter of winning?  It looks like we have a ton of 1's

    286 one's/Buffalo owns 56 (19.580%)

    219 two's /Buffalo owns 39 (17.808%)

    164 three's/Buffalo owns 39 (23.780%)

    119 four's/Buffalo owns 29 (24.369%)

    83 five's/Buffalo owns 15 (18.072%)

    55 six's/Buffalo owns 9 (16.363%)

    34 seven's/Buffalo owns 6 (17.647%)

    33 eight's/Buffalo owns 4 (12.121%)

    9 nine's/Buffalo owns 3 (33.333%)

    4 ten's/Buffalo owns 0 (0%)

I screwed up the numbers somewhere (total adds up to 1006, or 5 over), but the Sabres total appears correct.

    17.14% chance with 4-5

    22.222% chance with 4-6

    40% chance with 4-7

    28.571% chance with 4-8

    22.222% chance with 4-9

    16.666% chance with 4-10

    33.333% chance with 4-11

    0% chance with 4-12

    33.333% chance with 9-10

    0% with 9-11

    100% with 9-12.

  5. Most rookies struggle on draws, but if Eichel is a prodigy, then great.

I'd rather have Zemgus in the middle in our zone purely for defensive assignment reasons.

This is the exact thing I had in mine as well, different linemates though (and while I have Z taking center responsibility, I have Grigs taking draws). I take it we have different expectations of what we see Zemgus becoming.

  6. I like this

Thanks, man. I know it's not ideal to start a lot of rookie centers, but we're already pretty poor in the dot, so it's not going to get worse there. I really think that we've got wingers on this team that suite our centers really well.

My line-up would change depending on the opponent and the desired match-ups.

    My base would be

Moulson Eichel Girgensons with Girgs taking key draws

    Kane Reinhart Ennis

    Foligno Grigorenko Gionta

Larsson would be my jack of all trades, getting 10-12 minutes playing PK and being moved up when guys aren't going well, injuries occur, or when in-game situations warrant.

When we're playing a team with an explosive top line, I would match Foligno Girgensons Gionta against them.

Moulson Eichel Larsson and Kane Reinhart Ennis would be interchangeable as my other two units.

Grigs would be down on the fourth line with Deslauriers and whoever, but he could be switched with one of tank prizes if their play warranted it.

Just for reference, Eichel won 51.4% of his draws this year compared to 44.2%. That's a substantial drop, granted Eichel was playing at a lower level. I don't foresee Girgensons going too much longer as a centerman.

  7. I would like to see Buffalo roll four lines in the near future, so in this instance, I'm going to be using the third line as the "shut down" line, who will be primarily taking the face offs in our own zone. With that being said, I'm not going to do total lines, just key players I would like to see play together.

"First line," I'd like to see Eichel/Ennis. My reasoning for this is Eichel seems more physical than Reinhart and will be able to create space and opportunity for Ennis.

"Line two," I want to see Reinhart/Kane, essentially for the same reasoning only flipped. Kane is a tough, power forward who can score 30 or more goals. I think giving Reinhart a smart scorer to start the year will do wonders for his development and with a scoring threat like Kane, he'll have a lot of time to play his game.

"Line three," I would have Grigorenko taking the draws with Girgensons having center duties. While this season their FO% is similar, historically, Grigs has been better at draws. I think Girgs would be a huge motivator of Grigs and help him develop confidence.

"Line four" obviously falls to Larson who I would like to see paired with Deslauries.

Man, this seems hard, especially without a cheat sheet for who shoots which way.

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/roster/_/name/buf/buffalo-sabres

    Reinhart- Right

    Eichel- Right

    McDavid- Left

  8. He probably heard he was getting fired anyway (if we heard it, he heard it) and decided to have a big "###### you" to Murray. I would've done the same thing in Nolan's shoes, thinking it'd be hilarious

It's that sort of spitefulness to the fans of Buffalo who want a top pick and to the organization that make me say "Jeez, that Teddy Nolan is a great guy and I would love for him to marry my daughter!"

  9. I wouldn't care too much if we lost and either the Leafs, Avalanche, or Blue Jackets won it. I think an Eichel/McDavid rivalry would be awesome for 10+ years with the Leafs. CBJ already has the team around them for McDavid to be a superstar his first year, which would be fun to watch. The Avalanche had Joe Sakic, who is my all-time favorite player, and I wouldn't mind seeing them do well.

Anyone else, and I would be a little bummed out but over it pretty quickly.
