Funny thing about Granato is ardent defences can be made in his defence to explain away the multitude of issues with the team from being his responsibility (which gets dicey because of the sheer quantity) but what can’t imo he convincingly done is a cohesive argument for how he’s done a GOOD job. The entire argument and defence rests on attempting to explain away the bad. Once we get past “good for development”, he really doesn’t have anything in his favour that we can say he’s adding to the team right now

I don’t think he’s good at development. I think already skilled teenagers thought he was a good coach and that gained him a reputation as a development guy because those players went on to success.

Granato looked at VO’s Game against Vancouver and sits Robinson. Gotcha

I look at that and see an entire lineup at forward that could all be shifted down a line, with a missing top line entirely. Others see it and think replacing the fourth line will get the job done. Crazy how that is. Leads me to believe we’re going to be disappointed again next year.

  3. CTE is an issue no doubt, just like head injuries are an issue with veteran suicides. But alcoholism and depression are, in my opinion, the more significant issues more than likely. Regardless, it’s all a cycle that inevitably perpetuates itself.

I didn't mean you were culturally elite, I meant the joke was written by one.  Albeit making fun at the expense of what you are defending.  But that's a different debate.  I'm only trying to bring levity to grammatical errors about prepositions.  Not taking sides on whether or not it should be discussed on Sabre Space.  My wife teaches composition and I have to send her all my briefs going to Senior executives because I know she will catch any of my grammatical mistakes.   But my 100+ emails a day to others with whom I work could be speckled with errors and it doesn't bother me.

Just subscribe to Grammarly if it’s concerning.

Or continue to have human to human interaction with your spouse. Either way works!

There were zealots here who were arguing that he should be dealt for some retread on the market. When it comes to judging goalies, experienced or not, the best approach is to be humble. One year's Vezina winner could turn out to be next year's bum. I'm not in the column of those predicting that UPL would be playing at his current level for such a sustained time.  The truth is no one was. It just seems that because so much frustration has been built over the seasons that it has resulted in people looking for instant cures instead of allowing young players to develop. That same impatience has also been directed towards players such as Cozens, Mitts, Power etc. Very often, trusting in the process takes a lot of fortitude and courage to simply stick it out and allow things to naturally unfold. And it should be understood that I'm not suggesting that little else should be done to augment the process.  As it turns out, the GM who has very much been vilified, was right on how he has handled this particular goalie.

UPL was a highly rated top goalie prospect that fell into KAs lap. KA tried and tried again to anoint a goalie who was not UPL into the starters net until that crash and burned. He deserves no credit for UPL whatsoever.

Fans not having patience for players to develop on an NHL roster is not a problem of fans lack of patience. It’s a problem with the front office for rushing players and more likely than not, looking for a quicker fix.  They could have easily have brought in outside help and had these players develop and thrive in the minors.

This trope of blaming fans for not being patient enough for players who were rushed to the roster is such a terrible take. Our NHL GM said they are NHL level players. They are the ones being impatient.
