It’s not my 1977 movie, but it is an extremely fun and ridiculous 1977 movie.

Adding a Hellebuyck-level goalie to this squad instantly takes them to an 88-point team next season. Even so, I wouldn’t deal a top-10 pick for him. The kids and the kid goalies are coming. A regular NHL caliber starter in the off-season probably gets the Sabres to 80-point pace, with UPL as the backup understudy. Don't rush things now. Use that top-10 for the RHD or scoring threat cornerstone for the next 10 years.

Outpossessing and greatly outchancing the opposition is becoming a theme with this team. It means we can get by with .908 sv% because we’re still only giving up 2-3 goals per game and the offense is taking care of their end.

This is an odd way of speculating on an offseason acquisition of Buffalo native and NJ RFA Miles Wood.

Is it bad news or a challenge to see how far this roster has come in the last month? I don't expect the Sabres to win every game or outpossess/outshoot these games like they did against Nashville and others in this last run. But I want to see progress against these true Cup contenders. 3-2-1. 3-3. 2-3-1. And play like they have been 5-on-5 to keep the goal differential near even. Show the elite teams that now it's a fight each and every night.

Based on stats from EliteProspects, Hockey_Robinson is solely counting games played this season. Otherwise Holtz wouldn't be on the list (0.88 ppg in 52 gp last year and this year) while Quinn would be on the list (1.21 ppg in 47 gp last year and this year). If Quinn skates in 8 more games this season, and continues his pace, he'll become #3 on this list, and also crush Holtz and Reichel's ppg rate.

Nedeljkovic then was UPL now --- fine but no sample size in the NHL and nothing spectacular in the AHL. Hutton however was a downward-trending mess with vision issues at the start of 2021. Goalie had to be addressed. The Sabres should have been going through backup goalies like plungers trying to find the one. I agree on Swayman. Boston knew he's their heir-apparent. But that's why you sweeten the offer more and more with just Hall. See if they bite. They still had the guy they traded to CGY as a backup for the playoffs. Or you trade for that other goalie if they're dead set on Swayman. (And yes, the Hall NMC removing leverage was asinine, but that's another conversation for a time in the past.)

I'm happy to be wrong on many of my pessimistic predictions. Bjork hasn't been waived/traded... though. But I stand by that one.

GM Sheevyn could have done all manner of things to get the goaltending set for this season. Sign Ullmark long-term during last season (and protect him in the expansion draft). Retain salary on Hall to get Swayman instead of Bjork (and protect Swayman in the expansion draft while letting Ullmark test the UFA waters, and still offering Ullmark a better salary -- make Boston overpay by a bunch). Claim Nedeljkovic off waivers super-early in 2020-21 (then commit to him or Ullmark in expansion or move someone at the 2021 TDL).

I'd rather have shotless VO in the lineup than Bjork, for example. The trouble was Quinn came up and immediately got hurt. Tuch and Krebs weren't skating with the Sabres yet. Caggiula got hurt. It was helpful to at least have a responsible NHL-level player on the ice.

Glad to see the sellout. Now, the Sabres need to convert a few of those RJ attendees into "I'll go in on a couple games in April" folks, and maybe even a few "I like where this is going... maybe this summer I look into season tickets" folks.

Take Hellebuyck off Winnipeg and they are not near the playoffs. Put him on the Sabres and they are ... 20 points better in the standings. Near playoff contention.
