  1. Indeed, this is the case. It's why I don't see a need to intentionally drag the conversation into that. Edit (because JJ found this snarky and I didn't want N'eo to think I was giving him snark): I agree with your edit and your opinion on how your edit makes it universally applicable.
  2. To the bold: Did you read a single word I said? "Facts don't need to be agreed with because they stand on their own." If you disagree with a fact the fact is not suddenly untrue, you're just wrong. To the italics: Oh stop it, you. You're better than to just fall back on this and attempt to demean a conversation into banter about reputations. If I have an "agenda against Kane" then you have an agenda FOR Kane. That puts us both at the same table on opposite ends. Put the pitchfork down, pick up the salad fork and let's talk (if you want to, your choice). Also: yes, I patronized you. You don't have to follow up by telling me not to.
  3. To the bold: So if I said "peanut butter tastes good" and somebody agreed you could't do the same? Would their decision to agree with me make it a fact? That side of your exchange with Aud makes sense. You don't agree with facts, you agree with opinions. Facts don't need to be agreed with because they stand on their own. On the bottom line: he's basing it on very obvious numbers. Kane's insinuation that he's just another victim in a massive problem in professional sports and denial to comment on whether it's an extreme minority because he "doesn't have the numbers" is delusional in many eyes. Part of Vogl's job is to sift through what athletes say and to gauge his audience. In this instance he chose to say something because what Kane said is the only "dangerous" quote from the day. The athlete he's paid to cover said something questionable (at best). He's either just making it all up as he goes or he truly does believe something that simply isn't happening.
  4. The Associated Press @AP BREAKING: Charlotte police chief says he's decided to release video footage of police shooting of black man. "of black man" - wtf is that garbage, AP? This is probably the right move and will probably put an end to this one. Hopefully the national focus will shift to Tulsa and other legitimately concerning incidents.
  5. So how is that dangerous? He's doing what he's paid to do and what a TON of people who aren't paid to do it have done. Agreed (but what you said still isn't a fact!). And thanks.
  6. There seems to be a misunderstanding of what Vogl was saying. Kane didn't discuss the facts of his own situation yesterday and Vogl wasn't addressing anything Kane did not say. Vogl appears to be specifically talking about Kane's insistence that this is becoming "more relevant each and every day if you look at the other sports." Vogl, from what I can tell, is saying Evander is either just talking out of his ass or being delusional by saying that. It's not suddenly an epidemic of players being targeted in his sport or any other. Kane's actual quote: "Like I said, these things unfortunately happen more often than not and they're only becoming more relevant each and every day if you look at the other sports. For me it's just trying to stay away from that kinda stuff and kinda picking my spots better." When asked if it's a small percentage of players that find themselves in these situations he responded: "I mean, I don't know the numbers so I couldn't comment on that." https://twitter.com/Matt_Bove/status/778974400385282048 He's delusional if he doesn't think it's an extremely small percentage of players or he's flat out lying hoping nobody will notice. And it's an even smaller percentage of players who have found themselves in these situations twice in a matter of months. The number becomes almost absolute zero if you consider players who have found themselves in these situations twice in a matter of months and legitimately done nothing. Vogl doesn't know what happened in the that night. None of us do. And none of us needed to be there to see through what Kane said. He shouldn't be trying to claim he's yet another victim. Keep deflecting and talk about hockey if you haven't been properly coached up on how to respond.
  7. Chad Kelly is an interesting prospect to consider. Around Buffalo it's hard to get an unbiased answer (positive or negative). Born and raised here as the nephew of the greatest quarterback to ever lace em up (and the only QB to take them within reach of NFL glory). The expectations have been high for Kelly from day one, and he did plenty on the field in high school to provide hope. Off the field was another question, though. I've heard story after story about how much of a douche he can be from people that met and know him. He's not seen as a very bright individual. After high school he went to Clemson and, at one point, said he should be the starter over Tajh Boyd who was looked at as their leader and an NFL QB for a time. When he started to lose ground in the QB battle the year after Boyd left he got into a verbal battle with the coaches. That got him dismissed from the team. He took the year to go to JUCO (East Mississippi CC) where he went undefeated and won their championship. After doing that he was being recruited by some big schools. If I remember correctly Florida State was the main competitor aside from Ole Miss, but there was immediate opportunity so he committed to Ole Miss eight months after the Clemson dismissal (pretty impressive to turn that around in eight months). Days after committing to Ole Miss he got arrested for threatening a bouncer at a club in Buffalo. He claimed he was going to return with an AK-47 and "shoot it up." Ole Miss stood by him, though, and he ended up being their starter in his first season there (last year). He had a HUGE year last year statistically and pulled off an upset over Alabama which included over 300 yards and three TDs (no INTs). The only real issue he had in year one was avoiding the big mistakes that cost him big games (Ole Miss was ranked in the top five after beating Alabama if I'm not mistaken). He came into this year facing huge expectations but plenty of questions about his maturity level and ability to handle it. He lost his left tackle and top receiver to the draft. So far this year he has played closed games against two good teams in losses (Alabama and Florida State) but you could point to his failure to make throws under pressure as keys to those losses. Even still, he has looked like an even better QB making ELITE throws that should translate to the pro level. Size is an issue for him. He's 6-2 and like 215/220. That's not ideal, but it's also not terrible. The character questions are real, but it's also rare for a fan base to know so much about a prospect. We know everything there is to know about this kid. I don't doubt that many other top prospects are considered douchebags by everybody in their home town. And it's only going to be more magnified if he comes here. That's the danger of a questionable character coming home. They're going to be the king of the town even more than they were when things were falling apart in high school/early college. I think he could be successful in the NFL, but I think Buffalo is the last place he should want to go.
  8. He's not on the list because he doesn't play this week, but he's another one to watch. Struggled against Florida Atlantic, oddly, but he tore up App State who quieted Josh Dobbs of Tennessee. Has three INTs after only have 5 last year. I'm still learning on a lot of these guys, so any analysis I can offer will be mostly basic. Rudolph is the one I ended up spending a lot of time on after giving each QB a quick look. I liked what I saw a lot so I just kept observing as much as I could and became a big fan. Chad Kelly out of the game with three minutes to go in the third because his team is up 45-7 on the number 12 team in the country. If his day is over it ends 18 for 24 with 282 yards and 2 TDs (no INTs). Also ran four times for 53 yards and a TD (TD was 41 yards where he went untouched). A very good sign for Kelly: he seems to have gotten even better this year despite losing Treadwell.
  9. Quick guide to draft-eligible college QBs this week: Deshaun Watson (Clemson) took care of business on Thursday against Georgia Tech with 304 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Chad Kelly (Ole Miss) is playing against number 12 Georgia on ESPN. It's at the half and he has torn them up. Ole Miss leads 31-0. Mitch Leidner (Minnesota) has his team up 17-7 against Colorado State but his stats won't get you excited. Game on ESPNU. DeShone Kizer (Norte Dame) will play a weak defense against Duke today. This is a game he should be able to show off his entire skill set in an attempt to justify so many projecting him to be number one. It's on NBC at 3:30. Josh Dobbs (Tennessee) will face off with number 19 Florida at 3:30 on CBS. Mason Rudolph (Ok State) will play number 16 Baylor on FOX at 7:30. Rudolph quickly became my favorite to watch, so we'll see if he continues to support that tonight. That's the extent of the players I have any interest in discussing.
  10. Kenny Walker didn't go national in the sense that everybody in the country should be aware of it and a lot of SSers are not local. This turned from an interesting question about why local impact stories don't get discussed here into a witch hunt on hypocrites. You claim the question is genuine, but I don't think anything you've said in your recent posts illustrates that. It feels dishonest. And how would that make anybody a hypocrite? Why would somebody discussing national racist incidents several times but not discussing a local one make them that? This makes little sense, Hank.
  11. It may have indeed been discussed, though. I think I brought it up in a "Buffalo has a race problem" context and then a very brief exchange followed.I don't know Kenny personally and only spoke with him out of necessity. As for who I am, my name is STEVE JOHNSON. It does make it harder to discuss because one side has all the ammo they need and the other has zero. The only response can be claims that it's an isolated incident. There's no opportunity for give and take. Kenny Walker was a victim of racism and he's not nearly the only one. More people should feel for victims of racism whether it's blatant or subtle but unfortunately we mistake our own white comfortability as the norm it is not.
  12. I don't know that it was empty nor would I think that's enough evidence to make me think there was more involvement from others. It's harder to discuss that case in these contexts because of how direct and obvious it was.
  13. Kenny Walker is a good man. I've talked to him myself on several occasions and he handled the whole situation as good as one can. The man who set fire to his home was a former firefighter who worked with Walker. That man denies writing the note and claims to know who it was. He said he set fire to his home because he was upset that Walker maintained his position with the fire department (even though Walker passed the fitness test and the fire starter did not). He undoubtedly wrote that note. Walker considered him not only a neighbor but a friend. Walker actually contacted him to see if he could check if his back door was locked (it wasn't) which is what led to the fire.
  14. I don't believe the Charlotte shooting is problematic. While I'm sure the cops were intimidated by Scott's blackness at least at a subconscious level I do not believe the strong evidence we have supports anything other than either suicide by cop or a man with a weapon who, at the very least, held it while officers were near. Tulsa was murder (or manslaughter at the absolute least). There is already enough evidence to completely seal that in my mind. Unfortunately I don't think there is ever enough evidence to convict law enforcement in these cases.
  15. A fun positive note for the Bills: they have two of the top four rated LBers on Pro Football Focus: Preston Brown at 2 (behind only New England's Jamie Collins) and Zach Brown at 4
  16. He's a late rounder at best for me. Way too small with a Manziel-style (better brains). I'm more interested in Mason Rudolph for guys currently projected in the mid rounds. Luke Falk has talent but his system makes me nervous. In fact, I think Mason Rudolph should be sitting with a first-round grade right now (with work to do to keep that grade).
  17. Bad. Because he's from Clemson. And other reasons. I don't know if I like the QBs this year.
  18. A day after Rex said there is "heightened concern" about Sammy's injury it appears he won't be playing this Sunday. Cordy Glenn is also out. There are some within the Bills org that believe he actually did rebreak his foot, from what I hear.
  19. There is video of the shooting. Still photos show the window is closed including one showing blood smeared on the window (which wouldn't be possible if it was closed). On the tweet showing how it's a lethal mix: indeed, it is. But only one side consistently has the ability and, apparently, the authority to use lethal force.
  20. Albright-Knox-Gundlach Art Museum, or AKG Art Museum. WNY native donated $42.5 million which deserves getting his name slapped on there.
  21. If you call it "KeyBank Arena" I'll just assume you don't know what you're talking about even if you're Liger and do indeed know what you're talking about. I'll call it "home of the Stanley Cup" early next summer but until then "KeyBank Center" will do fine.
  22. Indeed it has been. They're going to blow the entire operation with a bad name. They talked about wanting to match how the Sharks and (Mighty) Ducks knocked their name and logo out of the park at the start which has probably contributed to organizational success, but the reports on potential names shows Foley is too self-obsessed to find the same branding success.
  23. Again, the window was closed. You can't reach through a closed window. And does not following orders in any way release fault from her for shooting him? Disobedience and blackness are non-lethal. I saw a good tweet the other day. Tweaking it based off my memory: America will say being a police officer is inherently dangerous. Being black in America is also inherently dangerous.
  24. Richie Dunn deserve some photos as he passed away a few days ago
  25. It has been said he was asked to put his hands on the vehicle. The window he was placing his hands on was closed. It appears very clear that he was just following orders. If he was not there's nothing he could have been doing that would've put others in immediate danger.
