  1. Working on the stats for 15 goalies between 07/08-now. Howard's stats are the most interesting so far
  2. No. Miller has been Vezina, Elite, Average-to-above-average, and this season is too early to call. Last year is hard to call, because he played injured for at least all of December (his words)
  3. Okay, so I made this chart, which contains some goalie 'advanced stats' Some definitions: Quality Start = Any game where a goalie stops more than the league average percentage of shots (currently .914) or gives up less than three goals while stopping 88.5% or more of the shots he faces. Quality starts have resulted in a winning percentage of roughly .775. Bail-Out = The percentage of games where a goalie didn't record a quality start but the team still won the game. That is, the goalie gets the win while stopping less than 88.5% of the shots, or while giving up three or more goals and stopping between 88.5 and 91.3% of shots. Really Bad Start = Anytime a goalie fails to stop more than 85% of the shots he faces. This equates to roughly a 10% chance of the team winning the game. I chose to ignore April as it is very close to the playoffs so the way the team plays and the way the goalies are rotated changes alot Some facts: The best goalies will record ~60% quality start percentage while 55% will identify you as above average. The best goalies will record ~10-12% RBS rate High BO rate indicates being carried by the team, low BO rate indicates that the team rarely helps you out if you're not at your best. High BO% + Low QS% = being carried by team Low BO% + High QS% = unlucky to a certain extent What I learnt: Smith and Enroth are very streaky - they have a high number of QS, but also have double the average bad game rate Enroth is unlucky - the team never bails him out - a lot of his QS are wasted Miller was elite two years ago Miller was average last year, but that coms from a bad December/January (when he admits he came back too early) This year he has been average - but that comes from march alone - which a) isn't over and b) maybe he has given up on the team Lundqvist was crazy good last year The Sabres and Rags live and die by their goalie The reason the debate about Enroth rages is because he flips between being elite and an AHL goalie For anyone wondering, Miller's QS was .723 during his Vezina campaign
  4. No he isn't better. And seeing as you think save percentage is the be all and end all of goaltending i'll quote it: Miller .914, Smith .912. There are plenty of other reasons he is worse, but I won't bore you with facts.
  5. Armia had the primary assist on the GWG for Assat - they are leading 1-0 in their first round of playoffs
  6. Burmistrov is meant to be available for the Jets - 21 year old two way centre (who can/does play wing)
  7. I dunno, I think this is more Chz's fault. The community SDS constructed has the talent, they are just not focusing enough
  8. Been outshot 5-1 over the last two periods
  9. Does Rolstons method of playing pure defense when they get a lead piss anyone else off? They have 15 shots, only 5 in the last 35 minutes - which includes two power plays. It just seems inevitable that the other team will score
  10. Weber has 4 give aways tonight. Everyone loves being so negative on this board. Why cheer for your team, when you can moan instead?
  11. Miller is on the decline and not worth his salary but Lecavalier is worth the acquisition? The Sabres do love paying $7 million for a 70 point scorer (cough Vanek cough)
  12. 25% of their cap is now tied up in 2 players
  13. Advanced stats are wasted on people like you. Do you not understand that a team that lets 3+ 2-on-1s per game will give up more goals than a team that lets 3 2-on-1s per season? And thus the goalie will so better under the latter system? You cannot know what he is like in the locker room. In fact, normally teams think the goalie is a weird guy anyway and just shrug it off. Miller is miserable? Oh well he also likes having vulcanised rubber shot at him at 100+mph How does his work ethic suck? He has never looked poorly conditioned or overweight (lol)? Do you train with him? Effort is a funny thing, it is much easier to put it in if you notice an improvement. If you bust your ass and night after night your team lets you down, it is easy to decide not to put in 100% every night. His numbers are similar to Howards. Howard put those numbers up playing behind Lidstrom for half the game. Miller put those numbers up playing behind Tallinder.
  14. I'll reserve judgement for this trade deadline. I expect some moves. Maybe not Miller traded etc. but trading off UFAs/Stafford and getting a lot of high picks etc.
  15. Grigo said he was the most helpful player for his development. He has worn an C/A for more than 5 seasons. I don't see why anyone feels they know enough about a player to decide if they are or are not captain material.
  16. Grigs has two primary assists on the powerplay. Quebec is leading 2-1 after the first period
  17. Ron Rolston sucks. I want Lindy back. Hopefully we get a new coach in next season who uses our skill players properly
  18. I was really confused by that non-call. I normally don't blame reffing because it goes both ways. But three calls/non-calls stood out to me 1) Ehrhoff interference - in a 5min OT, that is a big call to make on a little play 2) Ennis hogs tie non-call 3) Weber being sat on - this could have been interference, holding or roughing and it was a legit hockey play apparently
  19. At the very least is depends on the deadline. If he is on the thin ice then he has one chance to redeem himself - a big move at the deadline and he could save his job. But I doubt he is on thin ice, he was just signed to a 5 year extension after all
  20. Miller let in 2 soft goals (weird one and wrap around) but also made some really nice saves - he has let in fewer soft goals this season Myers had a nice game I like Leino's game Why do we always lose leads? It is ridiculous. The first period was awesome, not so much the next two. Nice shot on the GWG
  21. Why is it an injustice? He is not playing badly, he is playing badly for a top 6 winger. He has the size and defensively responsibility to be a good bottom 6 guy. There is no injustice in him playing. The only player on could argue stole time away from Grigo is Gerbe, and that is because Gerbe is a defensively dodge skill guy. Even poor old bullied Hecht has played fantastically this season - for his role on the team. My problem with this move is not that I think it is the wrong move, but if you are going to do it, why not do it earlier. If the mentality is to give him a chance and see if he improves enough to stay, well he was never going to play himself into staying if he got 5 minutes a game with John Scott. Why not either send him down when RR took over (a.k.a when his ice time dropped by 42%) or keep him the whole season and give him 10-15 minutes including PP time
  22. OEL has been signed to a 6 year $33.5 million extension
  23. Also the fact we burnt a year of the contract means it will be cheaper to resign him when he is 21 instead of 22. That third year is often the big one
  24. I presume that as well. It also means he won't burn a year of UFAness
  25. How does this not make DR look like a screw up? He burnt a year of the guys contract and Grigo averaged 7:14 over the last 9 games (plus 3 scratched before that)
