The Sharks' puck skill is on another level from any team we've faced at this point. We don't really compare.

Sure, but twice the cost means a lot different if the return is large than if the return is small, and this return is small! 2 and 1 are much closer to each other than 20 and 10 of the same unit "trade value" and a 3rd rounder is a lot more like the 1 than the 10 Like had we done that, our stash of assets isn't appreciably different, and yet we'd have our other top six forward without needing to touch Risto or any other defenseman

The question-mark approach is what we were so critical of this offseason. ie, "so much stuff that has been bad recently has to become not bad all at once" and whatnot. Every single one of them has been a hit to this point, which is pretty remarkable. In general I would never plan/operate as if this was the norm, or lean on something like that going so well again, though I doubt we'll ever be stuck in that position in an offseason again (bringing back a whole bunch of under-performers to a bad team with very little top-end roster overhaul). But since it's working, Jason and Ralph deserve the credit. We just have to hope that the question marks don't slip back into their old ways that made them question marks. Assuming they don't, next offseason we will be in the position of good team looking to make tweaks to stay good and get better. It will be refreshing!

Sam has been fine-to-good. Somebody just has to tell all THREE of those guys to stop bending over backwards to pass the puck to each other and just rifle a shot every once in a while.

I think that qualifies as "not much more." Hindsight and blah blah blah, but I'd have happily gone down that route rather than the Jimmy one this past summer.

There might be a bit of a settle-in period where he struggles to get acclimated to the hockey others have been playing for weeks, and is playing with a Sabres team that isn't running for the bus, with a new coach, for the first time. But I think when he does get back into the groove of things, we will have at least 4 defensemen capable of being our best defenseman any given night.

Get the win! Martin Jones is not great, but I feel like SJ has buttoned up their defense the last few games. 3 wins in a row after starting 0-4. They beat up on Carolina two nights ago. Won't be easy but our boys can do it
