It makes sense. I was 95% sure that penalty shots count in general, but adding the layer of 3v3 OT to it made it seem like less of a GOAL goal, for some reason
-
Does that count as a regular goal in the goal column? I think it does? And holy cow that save by Smith on Samson.
-
I hope you're doing well now! Edit: Fully aware that you likely have no idea who i am lol I read for a long time before I posted here

It's a thing that is tracked and yes he's great at it.

The best game of Josh Gorges' Sabres career came against McDavid's Oilers
-
I remember you, but not your unbecoming behavior.

Dahlin with a quietly excellent transition play
-
Why? Comparable levels of commentary are the vast majority of every thread. We aren't that smart PA It should have been a penalty. That should have been a save. This player shouldn't have done this, should have done that. Bad shot choice there. I'm confused about what you think you're seeing in every single other post besides referee posts, is what I'm saying

Marco Scandella Traded to Montreal for a 2020 4th Round Pick
Randall Flagg replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I know you're joking, but I actually would rather have Scandella, though I won't make any conclusions til I see Frolik play. I'm just shocked at the scouting reports I'm reading for a presumably bad forward from the Calgary Flames, who are probably one of the 5 least-viewed teams of hockey fans in WNY -

I'm shocked at how many people know Frolik's game. I haven't paid attention to him in an NHL game since 2017 -
Trade: Calgary Michael Frolik to Buffalo for a 4th

And anyone who thinks this is an exaggeration of some of the discourse on this forum merely needs to get angry about roster issues during the summer months when they can be addressed rather than months later when they manifest in the standings -
Sure, but they call stuff that looks like trips when they're not trips routinely too, so it would have been a big miss if it was indeed a trip, as the fall was integral to the play. "not how refs see the game" isn't compelling in any context when we're talking about the play with this characteristic, the way it would be if we were talking about things like missed offside. Again, I am not positive it was a trip, which is why I'm not railing on your poor zebras. Either way, fans post with highly varying levels of accuracy AND emotion on literally every topic related to hockey in existence on this board, and it really does appear condescending and pedantic that you choose the gameday thread fan's view of officiating as the thing whose every single comment you will pick apart night after night
-
Maybe. The issue is, they never showed the broadcast view in the replay. The original looked like a trip, but was fast. Then the overhead view looked like a corkscrew torque of his legs by the stick, but any slipping could coincidentally look like that. Slow mo of the broadcast view would have been the best way to see it for sure.
-
To me, that trip was a bad miss (and not an intentional noncall!). I don't see that happen very often and it directly led to the turnover that was capitalized on, so I figured it was worth commenting on.
-
Ah yes, the notorious traveling...Oilers.... fans
-
Acknowledging that this may draw some ire, I think that play developed because a trip on Dahlin wasn't called. I held off on posting this until I saw the replay.

He has never won any NHL hardware, not sure where you saw that. -

The principle of the move is one we've all been waiting for. We'll see how he plays -

If Frolik is the same player he was two seasons ago (I haven't thought about him since) then he's just more bottom six bad hockey. Looking now, it appears he had a bounceback season last season, though isn't playing well so far this year. Scandella has been far better for us this season than I expected he would be, so if Frolik is as bad as I remember, this is a bad swap -
Asserting that there is no realistic path for the 2016-17 Sabres that avoids pushing off hope for mere wild card CONTENTION, ie a finish simply in the top 48% of all NHL teams, for FOUR FULL SEASONS after a group with Eichel, Reinhart, ROR, Kane, and a normal prospect pool/distribution of upcoming picks is far more outlandish than your claim that day-to-day posting should have given you access to "alternative timeline" of moves to date that would make us good now, from agitated Sabrespace posters. That's a bizarrely specific request, and a mediocre attempted deflection from a string of horrendous offseasons that have continued a horrendous product that has yet to replicate a season of the quality that his predecessors were FIRED for.
-
tom, is this what Vogl's article was? Or do you have other examples of the leaking? And is the latter speculation, or whispers that you're hearing from your source? This is important. I've never resented a member of the Sabres organization as much as I resent Jason Botterill, in my entire fanhood. His three year bad/good ratio has, every step of the way, grown at an alarming rate. I've never seen a hockey team with more predictable and obvious problems than his last two, problems that have gone resoundingly untouched. I don't have to rehash them, as we have all spent thousands of hours pointing them out to each other. I've never seen a GM more content to sit on his hands during predictable unfathomably bad stretches, despite seeing what it does to good players the first time around (with ROR). We are in another unfathomably bad stretch as we speak. 8 wins in our last 29, 1 in our last 8. 4 wins in our last 19 games against eastern conference opponents, who we're supposed to be battling for these playoff spots. Think about that. 4 wins in NINETEEN games against our own conference. And growing speculation that nobody will trade with him since they assume they can either fleece him or look elsewhere. I think the evidence suggests that this situation is untenable and unfixable while Jason Botterill is at the helm, and formally declare my desire to see him removed from his position as soon as possible.

I'm actually gonna buckle down on the take that mitts is supremely unskilled

The analytics indeed tell us that the Sabres avoid non-point/outside shots like the plague compared to other teams, for the millionth season in a row Sam has ranged from quiet to great since we left for the western Canada road trip -

Dahlin did one or two really small things that i've never seen before tonight, and was very good. The playoffs are not a serious consideration for a team that has played eastern conference opponents for those seeds sixteen times since October ended, and has won just 4 of those games.
