You don't need supplements, but they can help. Just try to eat as much protein as you can. Fish and chicken are best, but don't ignore red meat. Your body needs iron.

You can also take vitamins to help with muscle regeneration. http://www.getbig.com/articles/faq-vit1.htm

Thanks for the advice, definitely will be putting it to use. Just had some chicken tonight, in fact, and hit every food group in quantity and quality today. It was a good day.

Once again, good luck and great job to all of those working on improving fitness. :)

  2. Free we

Free weights - high weight, low reps. Take a weight gain supplement(tru-mass, mass-tech or some equivalent).

Thanks, I'm trying, but I'm kind of an amateur at this point...and I can't afford supplements, literally, because of gas/insurance payments on a min. Wage job being fit around school, but I'm taking full advantage of someone else cooking my meals, eating a lot more than I did, and I like to think I'm eating right. With the few weights I do have, I have been seeing results since I started a year or so ago.

Heh. Wiki calls them Doom Metal. WTF is that? LOL

Basically, take a normal down-tuned metal song, preferably death metal. Then, slow the bpm. To, like, 1/2 bpm. The key is to be slow, like Black Sabbath divided by 100. And play LOUD.

This music is unbearable to listen to. unless it's live. Then, it is an experience like nothing you have ever had.

Or so I've heard. I keep the metal I listen to either breakneck fast, or heavy as hell, but preferably a combo of both.

Edit: these guys are doom metal to the extreme, normal doom metal has less extreme, similar qualities.

And then came the freak show. OK, before this concert I did not "get" Slipknot. I like angry, loud music. Always have. But most of their stuff is not music I would leave on the radio. And I'm well beyond thinking that musicians in costume are cool. Last night these guys showed me why they are headliners. They had the crowd whipped up into a frenzy like I have never seen before. Ever. The energy under the tent was unlike anything I have experienced. They are today's KISS and they can work a crowd like KISS only wishes they could have back in '83. The show was visual, intense, chaotic, and frankly, it was infectious. Even this old guy was into it. They sucked me right in. While they were on I was thinking, "I don't hate this at all". By the time the show was over I was thinking, "damn, what a great show". Those sumbitches are great entertainers.

    I "get it" now.

well, now that you're familiar with not "getting" bands until seeing them live, you need to go see Sunn O)))...

Oh I was just wondering if you were at one of the schools I used to march against in field band comps. I don't remember Attica being in NYSFBC though.

Nope, we do parades mostly. The only field shows we do are for the Bills, and it is a wonderful experience. I remember one of my first games freshman year, I walked within three feet of Tom Brady warming up, and made eye contact. He is bigger than I expected, and I didn't know wether to feel awed or disgusted. That same game I talked to Jim Kelly and high-fived Andre Reed. Those games are one of my favorite memories, which is why it is fantastic to mow that we have at least one more :)
  6. Our High School Marching Band (yeah yeah yeah, I'm really young, I know) was invited to do the pre game at the first Bills preseason game. In other years, this would've been disappointing, as we used to do most of the games all season, but the Bills took ages to contact us, making me suspect that we weren't going to get to play at any games. That would've sucked, as this is my senior year and Bills games are my favorite events to perform at, and it is good to know that I will get at least one more trip down the tunnel.

  7. The Islamic month of Ramadan, which starts at sunset today. This month is a wonderful way for a Muslim to re-focus and evaluate.

The first day of fasting is tomorrow. As part of my fast during this Holy month I fast from all non-essential Internet and Bosnian coffee. Not only for the fasting period of true dawn to sunset, but the entire day for the entire month.

Therefore, I will see you all when Ramadan ends at sunset on Friday, August 17, 2012.

I dare say some members would say that my fasting from SabreSpace is awesome.

Well, see you then! Hope you have a wonderful Ramadan!

Just think, next time we see you, we'll be less than two months away from hockey! (barring a....lockout....)

  8. Just registered on a forum for a band that I like, with mainly foreign members. In their welcomes, they couldn't believe that I was from the city of Buffalo. "I was going to ask if you meant in a real Buffalo, but realized you wouldn't get Internet service!" They have never heard of it. Probably have no clue what the Miller avatar is, either :P

  9. This season is going to suck. The producer doesn't know what kind of show he wants to put on, the director is overrated, the leading characters have grown stale, the new characters look to be disappointing, there wasn't nearly enough blood and guts on display last year — and that probably won't change this fall.

The Walking Dead also could be tough to watch.

  10. Thanks guys...

And a less serious complaint, I gashed my knee open while running two days ago, and it kills. At the bottom of a small dip in the road, just as a car passed me, I tripped on nothing and did a tuck-and-roll, my knee taking the majority of the ground impact. The funny thing was when I bounced back up and kept going like nothing had happened. Whoever passed me in the car was probably having hysterics... :w00t:

  11. My Grandmother remains in the hospital after open-heart surgery, though she was supposed to leave several days ago. Each day, some new problem pops up that requires her to stay another night, and she is miserable. Yesterday, her heart started beating irregularly again, which the surgery was supposed to fix... Just hoping that the new medication they put her on works and she can leave the hospital soon, and we can all resume our normal lives...we haven't been able to plan or do anything, out of uncertainty of her schedule...

I spend a lot of time on this board (and am similarly young and learning), but I've never read the archives. I thank nfreeman and betweenthepipes, who's posts gave me incentive not to make a fool of myself. I still make a fool of myself, but at least I came out of the gate with the best intentions.

I'm finished with high school forever, I didn't once cry, and I'm excited for a relaxing, F'N Fantastic Summer. The Olympics happen in the first half of August and then I leave for Montreal in late August. I'm just happy that my life finally feels like it's moving along.

Best of luck in Montreal. And I don't plan on crying either, was just kidding. :)

Last exam was today. English regents... Kinda pathetic.

And I got my calculus final graded and returned; 98%!!! F'N Fantastic!!!

I heard the Pete Towshend comment, but that's taking it a little out of context. Rush received an award last month in Ottawa and Towshend was also there. When Geddy and Alex were chatting with him they mentioned that they had a new album coming out soon, and Towshend said something to the effect of questioning the wisdom of making an album these days and he said that that they are a "waste of time". He's right in the sense that there is little to no money to be made anymore in making rock albums.

Thanks for clarification, I was in a noisy vehicle when it came on, and the guys at 97 Rock said something like, "did you really have to say that?" or something... That makes more sense.

    Complaint: Exams.

  14. Not a complaint so much as it is a depressing thought:

Someday, Alex, Geddy, and Neil will stop making music. THAT is sad ...

Did you hear Pete Townshend call Clockwork Angels a "waste of time"? Just heard something about that on the radio...
  15. Very minamal experience upon which to base an opinion. Boards are interesting.

I do spend much more time just sitting back and reading, trying to learn, and not blindly picking sides in any argument. You guys have taught me a lot...

And this board especially is very interesting. I spend a lot of time in the archives, and there are several brilliant threads in there, like the musings read and PA's story about ruff in the future...
