  1. I don't have the patience to listen to the guy for 24 minutes or whatever, but did he acknowledge that the NHL is in the process of receiving a $650,000,000 expansion fee for Seattle? A 1/31 share* of that is a little under $21,000,000. Even if the league office skims something off the fee for administration, every existing NHL team (with the possible exception of Vegas?) has a nice payday coming if it can just stick around for it. No NHL team will fold for the next few years at least. * 31 would be the wrong divisor if Vegas isn't entitled to a full share.
  2. I hope you're right, but if you are: at 24 he's on his third NHL team in two years and he can't be that expensive. I'm really wondering why Pittsburgh did this deal. Unannounced future considerations owed to JBot?
  3. Educate me here. I wouldn't think a team needs to make a formal call-up to have practice bodies, but does it? If they just wanted an extra goalie or skater(s) for practice do they have to put them on the roster? Or could they just borrow players from Rochester for the practice session and send them back down the Thruway after practice? Thanks in advance for serious answers.
  4. I've got nothing to add here but given my screen name I thought I had to get something posted. And I remember Shero getting fired by the Rangers because his drinking problem got out of control. He was spiking his coffee during practices.
  5. I would have as much interest in this team as I have in the Clippers (= none at all). And if you don't get the connection you don't know enough about Buffalo major league sports.
  6. Does anyone know why the schedule posted on the Sabrespace home page is two years old?
  7. I think you're right but it still bums me. I think the whites with the blue across the shoulders look sharp. Once upon a time the NHL and NBA required home teams to wear white. (Old timers like me remember the AFL rule was home colors, road whites; the NFL has always let the home team choose, which is why the Cowboys are rarely seen in blue jerseys.) Now that everyone's in the shirt-selling business, I guess someone decided there's an advantage to colors at home. Me, I don't see it.
  8. You beat me by 10 minutes. Yeah, but I'd rather see them do it at home in the whites.
  9. So . . . he's the strip side of a T-bone? Or he's an amoeba?
  10. A question from someone (me) who doesn't see the Sabres play often: I see a lot of names here and many of them at one time or another had decent or better reputations attached to them. I'm not pretending this is a Stanley Cup winner, but there appears from a distance to be enough talent named to be serious about the playoffs. With the right coaching and attitude there shouldn't be tailspins and extended losing streaks that mean the season is over in February. (Look at ROR; in Buffalo he was nobody and in St. Louis he turned into a superstar in the playoffs.). Am I just wrong and most of these guys are mediocre stiffs? Or with coaching is there enough talent here to stay in the hunt until April? (And I'm only talking about making the playoffs.) I also notice this posted excerpt doesn't list G's. Is that the problem?
  11. And another thing: am I the only one who wishes they still wore white at home and blue on the road?
  12. Just wondering: why were Bales and Granato available and willing to come to Buffalo? They were both assistants on other NHL teams (= a good thing, not a dig) so it's not clear this is a promotion for either one.
  13. What St. Louis is doing this year and what Nashville did a couple years ago prove that in the NHL if you make the playoffs you can get hot and anything can happen. And notwithstanding the Sabres (and occasional exceptions elsewhere) it seems most teams have some kind of shot at the playoffs. I just don't believe either of those things in the other sports.
  14. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. I want to believe. . . . . . . . .
  15. There's one problem that's already been fixed.
  16. Help me out here. Doesn/t all this assume Skinner re-signs? Isn't his contract up this year? If not but he's a FA for the expansion draft, is that another way to "hide" him -- have a deal agreed but don't sign it until after the draft?
  17. I'd forgotten about that! The Braves had to push really hard for attendance in those days.
  18. I'm just curious as someone who attended the first Sabre home game in '70 (we lost to Montreal): how many posters here in the Aud Club remember going to a game in the Aud?
  19. Thanks. This is helpful info for people like me who don't drill down. I also appreciate the no-snark attitude.
