You can make big things happening trading Vanek and Miller retaining ~30-40%. I think the Sabres could end up with a top 3 pick, and then trade Vanek + Minny's first to move back to 4-6. It would depend heavily on the teams in those slots, but something like that could happen. Or Vanek and Miller could be flipped for a couple legit top line forwards, and we could send Enroth + Minny's 1st + 2nd to LA for Bernier. Sabres also have the buyout as trade ammunition this Summer. Trade for legit talent A and horrible contract B.

Yup, I'm not worried that Stafford didn't get moved. He's ridiculously streaky, and may play well next year before the deadline (here's hoping).
-
I don't know if I would call Forsberg a blue chip prospect. I remember reading several rumors months ago that we was available and I didn't believe it. Now that they actually dealt him it makes me think that he's not as good as he seems.
-
Blaming the red herring.
-
That's what it is? Come on, Duffer.
-
Great SkateHockey @greatskate1m Rumor is that a significant trade will be announced between the Buffalo Sabres and the Washington Capitals. One minute ago. This twitter is followed by Duffer.

Yeah. I was going to say because d4rk said you were Drew Stafford. Not sure how that got so twisted in my head. I have a crush on you?
-
That person... was a Sabres fan.

I'm twitching.

A ridiculous rumor being thrown around Twitter is Miller Stafford and a 2nd for Ovi. That's hilarious
-
Kathleen @katemc1251m IF DREW STAFFORD GOES TO THE CAPITALS I'M GOING TO BURN DOWN THE WHITE HOUSE :o Shrader?
-
Ron Rolstoner @RonRolstoner1m #Sabres have traded Drew Stafford to the Capitals for a 2nd Round draft pick and Kuznetsov.
-
Time for the late stinger trade.
-
Johansen is raw for the centerpiece in a Pommer deal, that's for sure. Buuuuuut he is a big bodied highly talented center prospect.
-
I'd be okay with Pommer getting us a young potential top 2 center and a high pick or two. Johansen has a really high upside but his skillset hasn't translated over to the NHL yet.

Grasping for anything.
-
Just so you know how deadline day works: Contenders wont be giving up players, as the playoffs are about to happen. Contenders especially wont be giving up elite top line forwards. Sabres are sellers and will likely mostly get back picks and prospects today.

I thought Drew played well last night. I noticed him on the ice for the first time in like twenty games.

Definitely. -
They have a lot of young talent in their organization. If they turn into a contender in the next few years then that would be another score for bottoming out to get better.

Pominville's quotes from before the game was the first time I remember hearing him sound like a captain since we crushed Washington at the end of last season. Then the team hustles and Pominville has his best game of the season. And everybody was all adrenalined up from the trades and the fast approaching deadline. -

Fun win. I was sad when Peter Porter didn't get the hatter. So glad to break that streak. -
That's the 3 billion dollar question? Pffft

The Sabres are still going to win some games. If this is one of them, it'll be a blast. But I guess that doesn't matter if you don't watch the game. -
You're going to want to keep at least one of Vanek and Pominville to be a highly skilled vet on a young team. This assumes deadline deals: Pros of trading Pominville: Shipping out failed captain. Sends a message to the team (more than I think trading Vanek would). Would yield a big return and loads of ammo to move up in the draft (good prospects would be a likely return). Cons of trading Pominville: Shipping out consistency and strong two way play. Making a hole in the top line and decreasing team talent level. Shipping out a player that would be better suited for a hockey trade in the offseason. Pros of trading Vanek: Shipping out a player who is likely to miss more and more games as his career progresses. Would yield a massive return. Cons of trading Vanek: Shipping out best player and most production. I love Thomas Vanek. Making a hole in the top line and decreasing team talent level. Shipping out a player that would be better suited for a hockey trade in the offseason.
