I think everyone can agree that he was terrible and infuriating to watch He's lost the top line role to JJP, I can even see them thinking that they prefer Benson up the lineup over Skinner That would knock him down to the 3rd line and he just isn't the type of player they want in the bottom 6

Again you are assuming that they don't spend the money they save on Skinner on vets who "fit" what they want as a bottom 6 player

I don't think he is a cancer and on a team with lots of vets he is probably fine. BUT on the youngest team in the league you can't have your oldest player only trying in one end of the ice. he may not be a cancer but he is definitely not a leader and you definitely don't want young players learning from him. addition by subtraction

there is $7.6 million reason to do it now rather than wait. Skinners cap hit would drop from $9mill to $1.4 million this year. KA feels the pressure of making the playoffs this year.... I think he pulls the trigger. We will know Skinners future soon enough, the buyout window opens up 48 hours after the Stanley cup is awarded

I would do cart wheels if they do it but financially it does make more sense to wait one more year. Then again Adams may not think he has till next year and will be tempted to do it now and give him more money to spend on UFA's

I hope people always complaining about the Sabres not hitting are watching Panthers play hockey. They are gritty but aren't out there running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to hit people. They don't get out of position needlessly, they fight for every puck battle and protect the house with determination / bravery. That's winning hockey.
