Besides put on a few lbs - what the hell does Marner have to do to be ranked ahead of Strome? 24 points in last 7 games.
-
Strength of schedule definitely favors Arizona. only inter league games they play over the last 19 games is the two against Buffalo and 1 v NJ While Sabres still have games vs Toronto (2), Columbus, NJ and the two vs Arizona. if you look at the actual NHL standings - the avg Points of the Sabres remaining schedule is 67 while Zona is 72. The only way I see the Sabres winning the league is by having Arizona sweep the 2 head to head games.

23-man roster predictions for 2015-16 season
Crusader1969 replied to PalmTreeMafia's topic in The Aud Club
not sure about your line combinations but would love to see you right about the roster. Glad to see your an optimist with McDavid on the team! -
oilers to make Petry healthy scratch in his last game as an Oiler. Sabres should do the same with Stewart, Mitchell and Neuvirth but wont.

not at all. dont forget the Knights were stacked last year (hosted the memorial cup) and had little PP time or ES minutes for a rookie. Also dont forget Mitch is still only 17 - wont turn 18 till after the season. by comparison Rienhart was 18 for most of his draft year. Even if you compare Marner and Patrick Kane. Kane turned 18 in November of his draft year while Marner won't turn 18 till May. Marner just needs to add 10-15lbs. Strome would be a good #2 centre behind Reinhart. Crouse would also be a consideration if Sabres drop to 4th. I think you can pretty well write #1 McDavid #2 Eichel #3 Hanifin in ink - no matter what teams fill out the slots.

Gap between McDavid, Eichel, Hannifan, and the rest
Crusader1969 replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
If the Sabres end up with Marner or Hanifin I think they will eventually be a good to great team in a few years. Both are elite talents and will be centrepieces of the organization for the next decade. It will suck not getting a generational talent in McDavid or Eichel but I think they are still set up to be a contender for the cup in a few years (with McDavid or Eichel I think they are going to be a great to dominate team). I wouldn't be suprised if neither Hanifin or Marner plays with the Sabres in 2015-16 and think that though the "tank" would be over they would still be a top contender for one of the top picks in the 2016 Draft. -
What record do you think the Sabres need to pull this out? im looking for them to go 15-5 at least - anything worse and I think the Yotes take the crown.

I'm in total agreement about coming in last but if they do end up drafting 3rd or 4th - hopefully this makes you feel a bit better. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/knights-marner-proves-doubters-wrong/ though I love Marner and think he will be a hell of an NHL'er I would think Hanifin is the 3rd pick, Marner 4th. Thing that seperates Marner from Strome is that Marner continued scoring pace while Domi was away at the WJC. Can't say the same for Strome.

I'm not sure I have the energy to cheer the Sabres to last place again next year but yes the top of the draft is thought of as being really strong. I do think that even if the Sabres finish this off and get McDavid or Eichel that we are still a non playoff team next year and with the new structure of the lottery - maybe just maybe we get lucky.

A sign of things to come? the light on the horizon?
Crusader1969 replied to BuffaloBorn's topic in The Aud Club
uggghhhhh. Don't like this at all. im against putting McDavid or Eichel in any hypothetical roster projections and i am definitely against getting an Eichel or McDavid sabres jersey. How can anyone be a fan of the Sabres or Buffalo sports in general and not be a fatalist?? Though if you were going to get a jersey and temp fate that the Sabres end up in 30th - wouldn't you get the guy who you have 80% chance of landing? -
just re-read an article from last summer. Is Murray talking about Crouse if we fall into 3rd overall? "In a perfect world, I want a giant who skates fast and has tremendous skill and kills people,” Murray said. “But that’s not going to happen, right? We know that. We’re going to take the best player available early in the draft and may lean a little toward need with all those seconds. But I would like nothing better than to move those seconds for a higher pick or move those seconds and another player to get a young player who may have fallen out of favor with another team. We’re ready for all the options.”

Funny, when I listen to TSN radio or watch Hockey Central here in Toronto it doesnt seem anyone here (or the rest of Canada for that matter) seems to be laughing at the joke. They actually seem to be jealous of where the Sabres are and wish the Leafs had travelled down the "suffering" path many years ago. Also the reason why the Hockey News writes articles like this: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/why-the-buffalo-sabres-will-be-stanley-cup-champions-in-2020/ The only ones who seem to think the Sabres are a joke are people who follow hockey by just looking at the standings or have an inability to look at the big picture.

23-man roster predictions for 2015-16 season
Crusader1969 replied to PalmTreeMafia's topic in The Aud Club
New projected Line-up for 2015-16 Kane Girgensons Ennis Moulson O'Reilly Free agent Foligno Reinhart Gionta Deslauiers Larsson / McCormack Kaletta Risto Bog Zadorov Pysyk Weber Gorges Marner drafted with the 3rd pick and returns to London Grigerenko & Low 1st for O'Reilly -
Thought i would prepare myself in case the Sabres win tonight and Oilers lose as I will need something to talk me down off the skyway bridge. From Draftbuzz " since Knights horrible start, Mitch Marner has been on a 2.45ppg (42GP) scoring pace. McDavid is now at 2.56PPG" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ7nUCU3XZI Sabres may be able to trade down a spot or 2 out of the 3 slot so someone can grab Hanifin. Also, If you believe Reinhart is a #1 centre then a future line of Kane, Reinhart and Marner will be scary good in a few years.

Big Week ahead - Sabres play 4 games and need to go a perfect 4-0 (Nashville, Columbus, Vancouver & Florida) in order to create some breathing space. Oilers have 2 games this week - Minny & St.Louis. Tough to imagine them not going 2-0.

If Sabres end up in 2nd last I know I won't sleep for the entire two days. Sabres clinch last place - What is it comparable in sports terms? As happy as making the cup finals? winning the cup? Do you run out onto the street buck naked in joy? How about they win the lottery?
-
Don't agree, the stakes in this league are so important that even 1 exta point gained causes an exponentially more significant amount of stress on me. Lets clinch this thing and then enjoy a couple of wins at the end of the season. Tonight is a huge night - Rangers probably going with a 3rd string goalie. Minny playing Edmonton and are as hot as anyone in the league right now.

23-man roster predictions for 2015-16 season
Crusader1969 replied to PalmTreeMafia's topic in The Aud Club
\ Kane and Moulson both play LW. Hodgeson will be bought out. Girgensons and Foligno are both LW as well. I've also decided until the Sabres clinch this thing - I will not put McDavid or Eichel in my projected line-up. The stength of schedule discrepency between the Oilers and Sabres over the last 20+ games is really really scary. -
23-man roster predictions for 2015-16 season
Crusader1969 replied to PalmTreeMafia's topic in The Aud Club
Lets be honest - this team is probably doesn'tcontend for a playoff spot until 2016/17 with all the youth at forward (especially at center) I would consider signing back Stewart. Let him have a crack at the top line with our new "centre" and Kane. Then in another year replace Gionta with Bailey / Baptiste. Eventually as all the draft picks push for spots there is going to have to be another 5 for 2 trade down the road. -

not to be a Debbie Downer but have you seen the list of eligible FA's this summer? -
Thanks, saw it after I posted. I figure if Sabres keep the same pace - 3 points per 5 games played and unless Edmonton completely collapses we should clinch with about 5 games to go in the season. Looking for a combination of 22 Sabres losses and Edmonton wins over last 25 games. Next 5 Buffalo - Philly, NYR, Nash, Columbus, Vancouver Next 5 Edmonton - Boston, Minny, Anheim, Minny, St.Louis

Race for 30th. Magic Number vs all other teams with 25 games remaining Change = net change in magic number from 30 games remaining. Still love Meier, DeBrusk, Svechnikov but now Im looking at Bracco as a late 1st. Small but has termendous skill. Could fit nicely in a couple of years with Eichel or Reinhart as his center.

when GIrgensons first played in Buffalo was it LW? I would like to see him moved to wing but if he is a LW'er we are pretty set there with Kane and Moulson playing in the top 6. here it goes anyways: Kane Eichel TBD Girgensons Rienhart Ennis Moulson Grigerenko Gionta Deslauriers Foligno Kaleta Zadorov Risto Bogosian Pysyk Gorges Weber Still missing a RW position. Could there be a return of Stewart ? maybe one of Bailey or Baptiste will be ready? or trade for an offensive guy like Yakopov..yes I know its crazy but i think he could be had at relatively low price. Still don't see the playoffs for this team next year but they will be much more fun to watch. -
