Second best player behind Guryanov. Does the Russian factor move Svechnikov down the board? Well thought out Mock Draft though. I like Marner better than anyone else after Eichel and McDavid but the Coyotes have a strong need for big centers and I could see them taking Strome and may even surprise with Zacha.

are there people who would actually be disappointed if Edmonton took Eichel? Eichel may be the best prospect since Crosby but McDavid could be the best prospect since Lemieux.

In the Hockey Writers Scenario I would be disappointed the Sabres took Sprong over Svechnikov. Nice thing about it is that Samsonov and Guryanov would be there at 31. Im thinking both are 1st rounders.

You are definitely being bold with Andersson that is your 11th ranked prospect - the highest I've seen him is at 31 on Craig Buttons list -DraftBuzz and McKeens has him lower than 65th. I saw him play 3 times with Lemiuex was property of the Sabres. I do remember one really nice play defending against Justin Bailey otherwise didnt really stand out to me. from Future Considerations: smart, multi-situational defender. ability to QB power Play by making good reads, hard passes and even harder shot. He lacks speed and was unable to keep up with many OHL forwards.needs to use positional play to compensate for lack of speed. and Eichel over McDavid?? I LOVE Eichel and im super excited for him to be a Sabre but there is no way he is can be ranked higher than McDavid.

Kessle is all about speed. What happens to his speed and explosiveness if he continues down the path of not working out and eating donoughts. He is already chubby and will only put on more weight. newtons law: F = m a So the more force you supply, the more acceleration you get. But the same equation tells us that a = F / m, so the more massive an object, the less it will be accelerated by a force of the same size or said another way: the fatter Phil gets the slower he becomes and the he becomes a less productive hockey player. Maybe we started to witness this law this past season?

a blog about Kylington - Doesn't change my opinion of him. If it was a skating competition, i'm sure he would be a top 10 pick. His poor play, especially defensive zone mistakes makes me want to stay clear of him in round 1. its a chance to find a high end winger. The guys at 21 are good players but he has a chance to be elite. The Sabres are the one team that have enough prospects that if one decides never to play in NHL (doubtful with current state of KHL) it won't be a huge loss.

im with you on Zacha if he drops out of the top 10. My gut tells me he will go around 7 and out of reach for the Sabres. id rather watch paint dry than watch let alone pay attention to baseball but that's beside the point. Im just saying that you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you are going to put a play-off run on a team who's top 2 centers under this scenario would have played a total of 9 NHL games. Its good you have optimism and I hate being Debbie Downer - just don't be upset if the team ends up around 75 to 80 points but take a huge step forward over the last two seasons. I also agree with Button that this off-season the Sabres should do NOTHING. I don't need to see them trade assets for O'Reilly who has 1 year left on his contract and would project to a #2 center long term. Sabres already have Reinhart and Girgensons to add to Eichel as top 3 centers long term for them. I'd like for them to sit back give all the kids 1 more season, figure out who is going to be here long term and who they can afford to trade. I wouldn't even mind seeing Grigorenko in the top 3 this coming season with Samson in the minors. Maybe he can used as a trade chip next summer if he has a decent year - teams are always looking for a big, skilled winger. Hell, he may even turn himself into a contender for long term 2nd line center long term and move Samson to the 3 slot, and Girgensons to the wing. Off-season game plan - sign a Chris Stewart type RW, a depth D and a goalie. Unless an opportunity comes up to trade for an elite winger comes up again, like it did with Kane, then I sit back as GM and let my high-end Scotch Whiskey age for another year.

the Finnish's Finish ability shouldn't be questioned yet. I understand he didnt score at the WJC but had 12 goals in 11 games in the Finnish under 20 league and 4 goals in 21 games in the mens league.

Here are some recent rankings for Guryanov - Craigs List 20, Future Considerations 24, Draft Buzz 10, Mckeens Hockey 22, ISS 24. Those are the only ones I know of that have done their final rankings. I agree with a dislike for Kylington but the highest I've seen him ranked is 29 and the lowest is 70. Of course, there are more than just the 5 ranks out there that I've seen so far.

Here is a player that we haven't brought up much but I keep seeing his name in the early to late 20's. Denis Guryanov RW Ladia Togliatti (MHL) From Future Considerations' "STRENGTHS: The big Russian winger is a speedy and skilled forward who has potent offensive ability. A very quick skater who can pick up steam in an instant and break plays open. Guryanov is a poised puck carrier who has a long reach and great hands to remain elusive to checkers" Weekness - WEAKNESSES: The birth certificate is his main area of concern. Guryanov has made no commitment to playing in the NHL and has not expressed his interest, meaning he is a real risk for the NHL team that selects him. If his name was John Smith from Toronto, he would likely be considered a top 10 pick by many teams. I think Sabres could be a team to risk it on him with their second pick in the first round.

You need him to be ready to play in your top 6. there is no use having him take over McCormack's role on the 4th line. If he isn't top 6 ready then you need him to go to Roch. -
wont the odds change if the team holding the 20% chance get the top pick? then you would have 7.5% chance (up from 6% of getting pick #2). if the teams with the best odds of getting #1 and #2 end up with pick 1 & 2 in either order then the team with the 8th best odds would be near 10% of getting the 3rd pick. I think this is right but not 100% I still wouldn't trade away the Sabres #1 pick in 2016 because the top 7 or 8 in 2016 look like really good players. Plus, you would have to have a really good deal on the table to trade away your #1 pick with the draft in your city
