  1. Erod not qualified either and Sheary won’t be re-signed. Talk about a nothing trade, all the pieces gone after what a dozen games?
  2. Be interesting to see what these guys get in the open market. But I don’t see the sense in this at all.
  3. What no one upset about Remi Elie also being cut?
  4. Oh, I have strong opinions on your other opinions. 😁
  5. I seriously have no opinion on this pick, or on anyone’s opinion of this pick. These guys are all Mark Adams to me until I start hoping they are Victor Olofssons before they turn into Tom Morrows. And I get your disappointment that the past two days haven’t re-lit the torch of hope.
  6. I wouldn’t be so sure. From what I’ve seen there are a ton of 3rd-line arb-rights players around the league getting the same news. GMs would rather sign a UFA replacement for $1 million than risk paying them $3 million in arbitration.
  7. That’s not as bad as Montour - as much as some in here see it differently, he fits the profile of the Hinostrozzas and the Stechers that aren’t getting QOs - but it still seems ridiculous.
  8. I think this pick was very much about projection. I think the Sabres believe Quinn Is a boy who has more room to grow than Rossi, who is physically already a man, and much farther along in his development curve. And I think they believe he is a more likely to achieve his potential than Perfetti, who is slighter, slower and doesnt seem to drive himself as hard. I’m not saying I agree, I’m just laying it out there for those struggling with the ‘why’
  9. Yeah, me too. Anderson’s numbers 7 points in 59 NHL games, versus 39 in 114 are far worse than Casey’s. I think up this confirms we could still get at least a 2nd for Casey, which might surprise some, but probably not much more.
  10. I think that is crux of the analytics argument. You get your Neanderthals who choose to ignore the truth of what they are being shown by the numbers versus your zealots who think personnel can be dictated by a spreadsheet without even watching the game. I find both hard to talk to, and I think Adams’ whole philosophy is about developing a staff fully comfortable in understanding the value of each, and thoroughly incorporating both in their scouting.
  11. So it’s not about Peterka’s analytics, it’s about what analytics show about trading up in general? This segues into where I think people are tripping in Adams’ pledge to use more analytics. The pledge was to use analytics to inform decisions, not to dictate decisions. Basically it’s about “these numbers tell me this, why is that the case?” Analytics should help determine when a move up might make sense, as opposed to dont trade up ever because it only works 20 per cent of the time, or trade Risto for whatever you can get because his Corsi is terrible, and give Larsson $6 million because his is great.
  12. Well maybe this is a political answer, but aren't they equally bad? They both result in you drafting the wrong player. I guess, I'd rather have them be right on talent analysis, because when it lines up with need they'd take the right person. There's no guarantee of that the other way.
  13. I would have a huge problem with them picking their lower-ranked player in order to meet a perceived need in the upper first round. I think it's stupid; and they clearly said they don't draft that way, just two days ago. I disagree with them taking Quinn over Rossi and Perfetti, but I don't have a problem with it; partly because I like Quinn and I think he's in their ballpark, but mostly because I am not well-informed enough to be confident my judgement is better than the Sabres. I've never interviewed the players, or their teammates and coaches, or tested them, or delved into their analytics and why they produced those analytics. I've never even seen any of them play a full game of hockey.
  14. I agree that Perfetti and Rossi were better prospects. I disagree that the Sabres thought that as well and drafted based on need.
  15. I didn't see that and it wasn't what I read in most places. I did in a few though. To me his agility looked good, but his straight-ahead speed and one-step quickness was unremarkable.
  16. I'm out. Fixed narratives borne from limited information are too frustrating to debate. Have fun with that.
  17. Sorry, but what does Kevin know about analytics, specifically the analytics the Sabres use?
  18. Why are you so certain this is the case? Why does it have to be "we have to get two RWs who can score?" Why isn't it as simple as they thought Quinn was they best player at 8 and they ranked Peterka far higher than 38?
  19. They wanted to add competitive, productive forwards and they did.
  20. Two competitive productive forwards who go both ways and can drive offence. Positive trend here for me.
