  1. The only difference is that the surgery Jack wants has not been tried on an NHL player. Jack wants that surgery, primarily, because he wants to accelerate his recovery time; it is a known factor Everything else in your post is based on the twin suppositions that Jack is getting the surgery he wants and the acquiring team is not comfortable with the risk - an extremely unlikely combination. No team would be willing to trade for Jack Eichel and his $50 million contract under those circumstances, no matter the price, and they wouldn’t be making offers.
  2. So much this. Jack Eichel is playing pickup hockey right now, before his surgery. Both surgeries being contemplated have a 90 per cent success rate. Is it possible this could affect his play moving forward? Sure, just like Jake McCabe's knee could affect him in the future, and Marco Rossi's COVID bout and Alex Tuch's shoulder and Linus Ullmark's injury-of-the-month. Didn't stop McCabe and Ullmark from getting long-term contracts, or Rossi and Tuch from being trade targets. Absolutely no one in the NHL is saying Jack's is a career-threatening injury, only panicky internet posters and wannabe message board GMs.
  3. So, reasonably speaking, if Eichel has the value of Jones (he should have more) we should expect a minimum fair market return of: Jack Eichel for Othmann, Schneider, 2022 1st Jack Eichel for Wallstedt, Boldy, 2022 1st Jack Eichel for Perreault, Comtois, 2022 1st I wonder if these are the kinds of offers currently on the table
  4. Underplayed rumour from Friedman: Reilly Smith to the Rangers to play for his old coach. Fun theory from me: the return is a prospect Adams likes, who will be flipped to the Sabres along with Krebs and pieces for Eichel.
  5. He's in Cincinnati at #5 on the depth chart right now, and hopefully #6 before the summer is over. Ideally: Buffalo: New guy Anderson Rochester UPL Tokarski/Dell Cincinnati: Houser Some guy we never hear of
  6. I find it really hard to believe that a team would be reluctant to offer a player like Krebs in a trade for Jack Eichel. There is no chance Krebs will ever be as good as Eichel. My memory tells me he said exactly what you said, "reluctant" The part he disputed was that Krebs, Hague Smith and 1st was the Sabres ask.
  7. Just for the record, Friedman disputed that Kennedy's report that was actually the Sabres ask.
  8. No. There is no such thing as an old boys system in the NHL. Every franchise except Buffalo makes sure they only hire people from outside the area. They know how unlikely it is to find people in their own community who are actually qualified, and how silly it is to put any stock into relationships you already have with people whose skills and fit are already known.
  9. One of Anaheim, New York or Minnesota will have a moment sometime in August where they are looking at their roster and they say screw it, I’m going to make this happen, and up their offer. That offer won’t match the ask, but Adams will bite anyway and they will hammer something out. That’s if Vegas doesn’t trade a big contract for a prospect they can use to complete their offer first.
  10. From the Rangers it would translate to something like a 1, 2, 3, Lundqvist (Girard) Kravtsov (Bowers) and Georgiev (Hammond/Kamenev) The other big recent trade for a stud was the Karlsson trade. From the Ducks that roughly translates to a 1st, Comtois, Perreault, Larsson (Tierney, Norris, Demelo) Going back a few years to Tyler Seguin. From the Wild: Fiala (Erikson) Boldy (Smith), Addison (Morrow) Now Eichel should and does have better value than Seguin, Duchene and Karlsson, but this exercise does show why GMs are balking at Adams’ reported ask; it’s kinda unprecedented, at least in the modern era.
  11. He is the guy who is best-positioned to “come out of nowhere” for us. Smart hockey poolers should be looking at him in the late rounds.
  12. Nadeau and Marjala were really good players in the Q this year. Novikov is young for his cohort and has leadership qualities. Bloom didn’t play, but is a young stallion in terms of his physical gifts. Sardarian has special hands and was slowed by COVID this year. His numbers the previous year were fantastic.
  13. I wonder if Okposo is going to get an elevated role this year - less LOG line usage and more two-way deployment riding shotgun with one of our young centres. ***** Our PP really concerns me. Olofsson and Dahlin will be in the regular spots and Dahlin will really have to take charge. Who goes into Jack’s spot? R2 has the best skillset but he’s a lefty. So is Casey. Thompson has the big shot. Can Cozens QB? Miller? Butcher has had some success there, but he’s another lefty. Do Skinner and Okposo get another shot? Lot of unproven and mismatched pieces.
  14. Closer look at the Sabres draft showed a real emphasis on hidden value - almost across the board. And by hidden value, I mean players who weren’t at all hyped by the internet pre-draft, but show intriguing qualities upon closer inspection-pretty much to a player. These are guys that make me want to follow their progress.
  15. Portillo, Levi and UPL are a strong trio of goalie prospects in my opinion.
  16. Poltapov I believe is in training camp for the senior Red Army team. Instead, the went for offensive talent there and acquired a 19-year-old goalie prospect in the Sam Reinhart deal.
  17. Okposo is the obvious choice for captain this year. By the time he goes, hopefully his heir will be obvious.
  18. Three points to the statement/podcast combo 1) add pressure to KA to pull the trigger 2) provide interested GMs with a first-hand argument in favour of Jack’s preferred surgery 3) give Jack an avenue to vent his frustration over not getting his way yet. The crux of this angle is this: Adams clearly wants to avoid a decision on the surgery by trading Jack first. Other GMs and Eichel’s camp know that. The surgery decision is leverage to create an additional pressure point: “Kevyn, you can’t avoid the surgery question forever, make the deal.”
  19. I think the plan on D actually makes some sense, at least if you buy into the whole “play the kids in important situations so they learn” thing Adams has going on. Dahlin and Joki is the first pair. They will play a ton and theoretically rise to their draft pedigrees. After that you’ve got 4 pending UFA vets - Miller, Butcher, Hagg and Pysyk - who will be seeking to rehabilitate their reputations and earn contracts for next year. Anyone who manages to do so will be flipped at the deadline. Their roster spots will be filled by Power signing at the end of the college season, and we should also look to Johnson coming in then as well. Finally, we have Samuelsson and Bryson. Not sure if Adams has them pencilled into the big club, with the vets as insurance, or has the vets in place as obstacles for them to eventually supplant. In practice, it should result in the same thing - a lot more playing than sitting, with the hope that at some point during the year they establish themselves as full-time NHLers.
  20. It’s the second stupidest thing we appear to be seeing this summer (after the goaltending situation).
  21. I think playing and dominating in college this year will be better for him than the mess that will be this season. Other than the kids we saw finish last year, I don’t want a single prospect on the team coming out of training camp.
  22. Pretty sure Power’s agents will insist that season gets burned.
  23. Power will join the team when Michigan’s season is over, if there is time. Could also see him in Roch for the playoffs.
  24. Stylistically, Hagg is Risto minus the offence. He’s the guy Samuelsson will have to beat out for McCabe’s job. I’m betting Samuelsson wins. Hagg will play further down the lineup. He and Miller might be a serviceable 3rd pair.
  25. So outbidding the Bruins on Foligno, or the Canes on Andersen and/or similar moves of that nature?
