I just don't see why you'd sacrifice assets to get him now when you can wait 12 months and he's a UFA. If the answer is he won't sign here as a UFA, then you can be damn sure he won't sign an extension to facilitate the trade. I just don't see a right price to make this work. Now if Boston is willing to do something more rental-like, like Foligno and a 2, then I'm game.
That's a good point. We can't talk extension until after the draft, so this year's picks are out. Boston is going to want scoring. I just don't see the assets available to get him without parting with Zemgus, and I think that kind of defeats the purpose. I would definitely be in the conversation next summer, possibly even at the deadline.
Woah, Upset? No I won't be upset.
I will simply judge it as a failure. I'll still enjoy all the sportsing along the way.
Success and Failure are measured against goals. The goal is to win the cup. That's always the goal.
Enjoyment is a much more ethereal thing.
I've even enjoyed this year (Particularly the emergence of Lord Zemgus.)
I could qualify my statements to say that ANYTHING they try that does not deliver a Cup (FA, Trade, Coaching, Training, Hiring Hitmen, etc.) is a failure.
One time is always better than zero times. always.
This, except, rather than "wasn't worth it" I'd say, "we screwed this up".
I was already a fan of the 1990s Bills. I'd take just one, and then years of first round exits or 9th place finishes.
I think there is a more important philosophical question around the definitions of freedom. I would define freedom as uninhibited self-determination. If the State is the only thing capable of infringing upon your ability for self-determination, you're doing pretty well. Defining freedom in reference only to restrictions from the state is a privilege of the powerful.
I saw that, and I'm certain he's hurting still.
But he is invincible and immortal. If the Docs would have let him out, he would have been on the ice. I'm guessing keeping him in the training room had to look like a scene from Misery.
