I'm going to unilaterally cease my LR/DR apologetics until the roster sees some regular season ice time.
Also, I'm only posting this so I can feel better about myself. Please ignore.
This board was created to make assumptions about people who are professionals and then criticize them.
The life of anyone who works in manufacturing is basically a series of conversations where design engineers and sales people make assumptions about the grunts in the factory and then criticize our work. I love it.
No I'm being serious. It's like the last CBA where they didn't have a method adjusting cap hit relative to decades long contracts.
You're gonna have to define "passion" with those lists? You question Ennis's passion? Hecht? Pommer? or did you mean to type "physical toughness" and choke on your discontent in the middle of it?
Hodgson and Ennis may eventually get some time, especially killing Ott's penalties, but I don't think either of them, ennis especially, has the potential, this season, to be better than the four I listed.
Fair assessment. I'm just saying you don't trade more than the value of the RFA compensation. If that's what it would take, you just don't do it. Maybe even threaten the offer sheet in trade talks to "set the market'
Roy and Goose were the PK "centers" last season. I think Ott and Hecht are a vast improvement. Especially since being the "center" on the PK really just means taking draws and then playing like a defensive wing.
PK:
Pommer/Ott
Hecht/Kaleta
Me like.
But if we sign him to the 5-year deal (which they don't want) at $5.5M/year (which is too steep for them) they'll let it go and take our picks (which are probably of less value than any combination of players that would instigate the trade)
That package is 2 firsts and a second, signing him to an offer sheet at $5M-$6M would only cost a first, second, and 3rd. Why make the trade?
Edit: Sekera was a 3rd, but his value now is probably that of a 2nd.

If the same-old same-old can deliver that again this year, I'll take it. And the #1 Seed in the east.
If the defense spends as much time in the press box as they did last year, then no, we have a problem with our glass blue line.
May be helped by having Ehrhoff, Sulzer, Sekera, Enroth, Hecht, Leino, and Vanek. That's like a third of the team. Especially Jochen. that could be a big help.
your confusing the competition with The Pastime. Induction into the Hall isn't about being the best of your time. It's about being the best of All Time. That's why there are fewer Dead Ball Era sluggers, more pitchers. Spitballs and Foul Strikes gave them the advantage. It took Ruth's emergence as something special to get sluggers on the radar again.
Baseball is about comparing across eras. That's why Bonds is compared to Aaron. Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, were only a story because they were chasing Maris and Aaron.
