  1. From any White House's perspective it's defending direct American interests (we sure do like our cheap gas and huge cars) vs. defending the human rights of non-Americans. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying when you put it that way, it doesn't make the end result sound so crazy.
  2. If my Hungarian-German Grandfather were still living in his native city, he'd be Serbian now (and living in a village with a completely different name). To say that the borders and ethnic relations in that part of the planet are complicated is and understatement.
  3. yes, exactly. the only problem is the bodies.
  4. Clinton often gets a pass on Rwanda, Somalia, and the Balkans because the economy grew gangbusters and the budget got in the black.
  5. Tragic chicken wing accident.
  6. We have a progressive income tax in the Constitution and an inheritance tax. We just need to move the levers. The 1890-1920 progressives did all the heavy lifting with Amendments 16-19. (is the word "Amendment" capitalized like Constitution when referring to specific amendments?)
  7. High, it's bad, real bad. It's not existentially threatening, yet, and I believe we'll stop pandering to the sectors built off that debt and stop protecting the Feudal Nobility of Wealth before it becomes that threatening. If we don't, then certainly it will result in a society shaking upheaval.
  8. It's not what you believe it to be. It's bad. But it isn't about to go super saiyan. I capitalized it because I do a lot of web coding, and the rules of capitalization apparently don't apply to small businesses on the internet.
  9. Politically. Obviously, there are other issues as well. Although, from a math standpoint, the Debt is not as bad as doomsday-ers, many with a financial interest in low top marginal taxes/austerity, would have you believe. I'm not saying it's not a problem, but it's not even the worst debt we've ever been in as a percentage of the economy.
  10. We're exactly where we were 125 years ago. The original robber barons pushed too far, and the progressives, starting with Teddy, pushed the needle back. It'll happen again. Ps- Phone typing fail. Grrrrrr.... Nailed the we're-where-were here, though.
  11. This is exactly what I'm referring to, and this is an established media outlet (ABC/ESPN) going in a totally different direction with it's online product. Nate silver is a bright guy, but the ability to create a sustainable business model from his brilliant polling analysis would be his most important addition to modern journalism.
  12. The ACLU takes in money to pay lawyers to fight the government. The NRA takes in money to pay lobbyists to work the government. Both groups have really solid development wings that know what news stories and messages bring in the most donations. Both groups are incredibly skilled at what they do. I'm really not sure what the answer is to this problem, having the national dialogue set by groups seeking to profit from that dialogue, but I know that improving the press is a huge part of it. For all the good the internet has done, essentially killing the newsrooms of every established media outlet has certainly hurt the country in some ways. There are some really interesting experimental new media business models that have launched in the last 18 months or so. Their ability to bring journalism back to the "news" will be a huge factor in how quickly the people take their government back.
  13. Exactly. The NRA wants you scared of the government for the same reason the ACLU wants you scared of the government. Money.
  14. 1) The United States are an ongoing experiment in balancing the diverse needs of economically, ethnically, and socially diverse peoples. Splitting the state won't solve it. 2) I don't think anyone is accusing the Ukrainian Government of the registration letters. It was either the separatist "government" in the pro Russian regions or a group of anti-Semitic thugs. 3) I had a root beer float from Abbotts at about 9:30 pm earlier this week. At about 1:30am I realized they had made it with Barq's
  15. He had a basement with like 15 mattresses just laid out on the floor. It was in some NHL Cribs video. Pommer: Obviously the "C" was the right role for him. He was amazing. I meant the 1st line scoring winger bit. He was the best 2nd line right wing you could ask for. Hecht: Everytime he lined up as a centerman, he was in the wrong role.
  16. I did. He, like pommer and jochen, was a victim of being out in a role he wasn't designed for.
  17. My sister is getting married next summer in Kentucky (And not to a family member!!!!) If I make it back, I'm pretty sure I'll need to replace my rear shocks from the 600 miles of overweight travel.
  18. At Louis winning it all(29th pick) is worse for the Sabres than St Louis losing in the conference finals (26th or 27th pick). No one who is a Sabres Fan should be rooting for the blues to win the cup. It was mentioned ad naseum for years before he was moved. He wasn't talking about you.
  19. On the plus side, in order for him to make next year a tank, he'll have to stack the Amerks Roster. So there's that.
  20. Turns out I may not have been predictive I had missed a reference to abortion previously, but the phenomenon I am referring to where the right shifts all issues to the 2nd amendment and abortion occurred exactly as outlined.
  21. I guess the fog of war is thick here as well, I thought I brought it up before you tried to compare the death toll from fire arms to the "death" toll from abortion. Also, You're worldview is entirely consistent. I cannot argue your desire for armament without first removing your contention that the world is on the verge of collapse into anarchy. I'm not sure how to do that. I don't see the end times of civilization, but at least your views are consistent, I appreciate that.
  22. I guess it was 18 minutes.
  23. Well played GoDD. Well Played. On another note: I would again like to point out that I predicted this, and was proven correct within an hour. Ukraine is about guns is about abortion. The "Romney Predicted.." didn't stick. The "Weak leadership from the president..." didn't stick. Europe wanting to play things down is a problem for the Hawks. So to avoid the "GWB made the whole damn country war wary, and Speculative Investment Gambling/Shady Banking Practices followed by forced austerity put the European Economy back a decade" actually relevant to the situation at hand discussion, the classic conservative pivot to guns and abortion is made. even though the 2nd Amendment and The reproductive rights of American Women have absolutely nothing to do with the ethnic and economic schism in Ukraine. They are the ultimate distraction. We must protect our wives, children, and all of the babies. The "Protection of Marriage Pillar" of the conservative election year temple is gone, so these two will each get just that much more attention.
  24. It really is a matter of economics and opportunity rather than an issue of weapons availability in that case. This is true. Confiscate on site, 100% gun banishment would certainly reduce the death toll some, but is not worth the infringement on individual freedom. Other areas of gun violence, outside of lawless bottom 1% poverty stricken Ghettos could certainly be affected by additional GC measures, though.
  25. Can anyone guess my favorite Sabres Number? From my sporting times, I always wore 17, in all sports, as did my brother, and my sister, not sure why.
