(1) Khamenei is still as fervently anti-Semitic as ever, but the president of Iran coming out and openly condemning the Holocaust of the Jews by the Nazis is a pretty big step toward moderation. The fact that he was allowed to say it, and then the Foreign Minister to repeat similar comments a short while later, is a huge change in the political makeup of that country. Even Khamenei himself has made the subtle shift from "The holocaust is a myth" to "the Holocaust may not have been as significant as western history records it". They are slow, but they are moderating and if Putin is looking out 20 years and seeing an Iran that could have some limited trading ties with Europe, he sees a threat. (2) If we want to be the police of the world, it follows that we should extend our judicial beliefs around the world as well, and as stated above, citizenship has absolutely nothing to do with it. This case is a slam dunk because the US consulate enjoys extraterritorial status and as such, the crimes were committed within the classically accepted jurisdiction of the Federal Courts.

I don't think the first is debatable. They're moving at a "China to the Free Market" pace, but they're moving. But, based on your pithy responses, I doubt you believe the first to be debatable either. I think the second will be one of the great debates of our time, with huge ramifications.

Somebody with a lot of gusto and experience is going to be this guy's lawyer. This is an opportunity to show that terrorists can be treated like the criminals they are and tried in criminal courts. Or, it will blow up in the Justice Department's face and the result will be more public support of drone attacks and other extralegal remedies.

With Altidore out, the entire team apparently unprepared for the humidity, and a 1 goal lead, I think the wait and counter mode was a pretty solid option regardless of the opponent. If Jozy gets good news today during his scans, and the team is better hydrated or the conditions are better, I think the games against the European teams will be more balanced.
