after a day to think about it, really Arizona only gained 1 point on us total in those 2 games The gap is pretty much what it has been for a month. IF they can lose to Toronto I'll feel a lot better, as everyone just assumes that is a win.

The person running this account seems to be hitting a nerve with you this evening. He/she extends his/her apologies. I'm taking a break from posting until this is all over. I don't like upsetting people. I'm just cranky and filled with the typical doom and gloom that comes with being a Buffalo sports fan. A good question is why it matters so much.

Any chance Bettman rigs the lotto to make sure Arizona gets McDavid? I'm all for it at this point. Where do I sign?

This is FAR worse than losing in the Stanley Cup finals or the Presidents Trophy year... At least for those it was an honest, true fan experience: we were all together rooting for our team to win and they fell short. It sucked but nobody was angry with the team or each other. The Sabres just got beat. No Sabres fans were rooting for them to fail. With this it's constant ugliness, booing players at home, people with all different agendas from fans to players to coaches to management.... And now that it looks very likely to fall apart there is no positive to take from it. It wasn't even a fun run. It was and is just gross.

When does "Hockey Heaven" start? This is not fun on any level.

I truly envy those who can enjoy watching the team finish 29th and get some sick satisfaction out of it. It wasn't the fans who came up with this plan, it was the owner and GM (Darcy then Murray). "Tankers" are just buying into what the Sabres were selling with "suffering." Two men are happiest tonight: Darcy and Nolan. In fairness, Darcy did say there would be suffering. In hindsight he and his librarian coach were the men for the job this season.

Meanwhile, Nolan has the players playing better than they have all year. You know he wants to see them finish 29th. He knows he's getting fired so why not stick it to the team for setting him up to fail (not to mention past events)? I honestly can't say I blame him. The whole idea of tanking is bad kharma, as if Buffalo needs any more of that.

Honestly? I didn't care about hockey back then. I was always more of a football fan. I only really started to care about hockey once I moved to Buffalo for work (which happened to be right around the start of the Drury/Briere years) Looking at my posts in this thread I think I care a little too much. I think I'll take a break from posting until after this "tank" crap is over. It's horrible to hope your team loses and to argue with fellow fans about it and want to fight Sabres players who score or make saves. It's just awful on every level.

Well, the lead will be 4 after tonight. They can still win 2 other games and assuming AZ doesn't get anther point the Sabres still finish 30th. At least I think that's right.

So the lead is now 4 after this win? It seems like the numbers are different everywhere you look and in the Carrion thread everything is backwards So they can still afford to beat Toronto and 1 other win, which would be a tie with AZ and we would still be ok?

I'm just about to check out of this totally futile and ridiculous season and just assume they blew it. You are going to hear a lot worse if you turn on WGR tomorrow and going forward once the Coyotes clinch it.
