  1. That is too freaking funny!!

My complaint is a lazy ass cop sitting at the end of my street writing tickets to people for rolling thru a stop sign as they make a right turn..just got in a big argument with him as I sat at the intersection for an hour to warn people he is there..which he did not take kindly to..I asked him if he really felt he was doing police work sitting in a neighborhood writing tickets to the ladies who lunch crowd...again something he did not take kindly to...asked him if 2 cars coming thru the intersection every five minutes presented a public safety concern...seeing as how I have lived here 8 years and never once have seen an accident there..he did not take kindly to that either.

This is the thrid day in last week this douch nozzle has been out there...I am sick of it.

Cop is doing what he is told. No need to hassle him. You'd be pissed if someone on the outside hassled you for doing what you were told to do this morning. In fact, you shouldn't be in here complaining as you got off without a citation. What you did is obstruction, and is a violation. ;)

  2. Yeah, you are right. Doesn't taste like an amber ale at all. Reminds me of a british beer - brown, toasted malt Not a bad one, but the style isn't my style. It's a well done, quality beer, just not for me. A couple good swallows cleared the IPA hops off my palate, but I still don't taste the hops they boast about on the label.

It is more of a Belgian take on an amber ale. The yeast and malt profile dominates. And dominates is used loosely because there is nothing dominating about the beer. It is an exercize in subtlety. I don't recall the label but if they are bragging on hops in that label they must be bragging in comparison to Bud Light Lime or something because it is most defintiely not a hop forward beer.

IMO it i s a good Summer beer, light on the tongue and refreshing with enough character to remind you it isn't a macro that you're drinking.

  3. Not sure of the story behind it. I was on the phone and one of my partners dropped it on my desk on his way out. He's a bike racer, so the bike connection may have played a role. Finishing a couple fFll sail IPA's before cracking it open.

As for the full sail - a nice ipa. Medium body, medium hop. 6.0 abv. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about. It's a prototype for the style. Very clean finish

Should've had the Fat tire first. It's much milder on the palate and will get drowned out by all those hops in the IPA.

  4. Amazingly enough, someone dropped a case of this stuff off to my office today. I ended up with a double deuce of it on my desk before I left. It is now sufficiently chilled, and I will be cracking it open soon.

You have good friends at the office. That would make for a fantastic Friday.

  5. As someone who has stepped off of his front porch onto a boat in 2007, I'm acutely aware of what they are going through. It really sucked for about a month or so, but after awhile, I found it pretty liberating. We filled an 18 yard dumpster with our stuff and found that our lives really didn't change all that much.

That is good to hear. I'll try to pass along that sentiment to my cousin when the time is right. Kind of a "there's good news in every bad" sort of message.

  6. Yikes - sorry to hear about your cousin's family, weave. Hopefully everyone is safe and they have good insurance!

I didn't ask if they have flood insurance. I was afraid fo the answer. I'm not sure the Scoharie creek basin is considered a flood plain by the Corp of Engineers. If it isn't, they weren't required to have it.

  7. LOL

I so want to continue in the fun but I jumped back into this thread to relay some bad news from my family. I have a cousin that lives along the Scoharie Creek southwest of Schenectady. Looks like they've lost their house. Flooding up and into the second story. They had to be rescued from their house.

  8. Which hand are you talking about, the Japanese Hurricane Stearing Machine, or the underground nuclear explos...er, I mean "Earthquake" last week?

You have it so wrong. It isn't the Japanese. We have our very own microwave based weather control up in Alaska. Irene was domestic terrorism perpetrated by our own government. :bag:

    *puts on tin foil hat*

  9. I haven't seen much coverage around here for anything other than Vermont. They're talking flooding of historical proportions up there. I'd make a joke about all those dirty hippies finally getting a much needed bath, but that just wouldn't be right.

    I laughed.

  10. Saw that. Nuts that we could feel it all the way up here in WNY.

A geologist on another forum I frequent just explained that the energy from quakes on the east coast travel alot further than the ones on the west coast because the rock formations are older and alot less malleable in the east. The rock is less likely to deform so the energy travels further.

  11. No signs of this one out here. I do remember feeling some aftershocks from a quake that happened someone in Quebec (I think that's where it was) back in maybe the mid 90s.

There was a quake last June in Canada near the Ontario/Quebec border that I felt while I was eating lunch on the deck of The Italian Fisherman on Chautauqua Lake. The deck is raised about 10-12 feet and really swayed. That was a little spooky.

How many of you folks felt the tremor when the Retsof salt mine in Livingston County collapsed sometime in the mid-late 90's?

  12. I smoked a cheap long fill Thompson cigars special while drinking blue light out of cans on my neighbors deck last night. Not exactly a connoisseur's dream evening, but it all tasted damn good under a beautiful late summer sky.

I've ordered my share of Thompson's samplers. Good golf or lawn mowing smokes. ANd they work well with a PBR or Genny cream.

Sometimes a cheap smoke and a cheap beer is just what the Dr. ordered.

  13. I stopped into a smoke shop on the rez while I was in lewiston and grabbed a mixed handful. I'm on the deck enjoying a Punch Grand Puro. It's a bit stronger than I usually like but nice and smooth. Great draw. Lots of smoke. Good stick. And it's really meshing with the Elijah Craig 12yr bourbon I'm hittin on.

  14. Any of you folks ever get out to Lewiston? There are a couple of bars there with fantastic bourbon selections. The Village Pub has a good bourbon list and a smaller but decent Scotch selection too. And The Brickyard Pub and BBQ has a really good bourbon selection (and lots of micro brews too).

I was in Lewiston yesterday evening to take in the Ted Nugent concert at ArtPark. Before the show we hit the Brickyard for dinner and to lube up a bit. One of the quirky little things on their menu is that each BBQ platter gets you 2 sides to choose. One of the choices is a shot of Evan Williams. I've never seen a place that offers a shot of whiskey as a side dish. Anywho.... after our meal we bellied up to the bar for an after dinner drink. Their selection is quite good with a number of bourbons I've never seen offered in a bar locally. I choose the Rip Van Winkle neat, buddy went with Blanton's. The Winkle was smooth but assertive, a touch spicy, and had a huge vanilla character to it. And at $6 a glass didn't hurt on the wallet. Ended up having a 2nd glass before we headed in to catch the opening act.

BTW- whatever you think of Uncle Ted's politics, the dude still knows how to rock and is a fantastic entertainer. And at 63 he can still make a guitar cry out for mercy. Just make sure you've worn your thick skin if your politics don't agree with his.

  15. Anyone ever go to one of these events? If only I were rich. :(

    Whiskyfest

They had something very similar to this but bourbon-centric last year in Saratoga around October. A buddy and I were going to attend but we couldn't get it in the schedule. They had 3 "levels" of ticket, with each higher level giving access to higer priced whiskeys. And there was a really large selection of micro brews available too. I haven't found anything on it this year so I think it was a one-off event.

  16. Finally broke out another Partagas torpedo from the stash I brought home from the big easy. Much better draw than the first one. And that's a good thing Thick creamy smoke. Perfect strength for me. Really enjoying this one. And the evening is chamber of commerce gorgeous.
