Yeah, and when Donny was first hired it was "A Granato interview is straightforward and easy to comprehend. Plain talk and clarity."

Same with Ralph. Same with Housley.  “Refreshing”, “Honest”, “Upbeat”.  Even “Inspirational “.

Even old, familiar Lindy gets the shiny new toy syndrome.  We are predictable.

I’d rather be a Sabre fan than a Leaf fan right now.

With the Sabres, I know what we’ve got. It’s pretty mid.

With the Leafs, you go through this annual torture of thinking you have a team that can compete for the Cup, but … no, you don’t.

Personally, I’d take a stretch of multiple enjoyable regular seasons leading to playoff berths ultimately ending in disappointment than I would multiple terrible regular seasons to the tune of the worst run of all time in professional sports followed by coming in even lower by expectations than the Leafs because we can’t finish higher than 22nd any single season

    but that’s just me

    He’s so damn good

Yeah, it’s real tortuous to have a long term near the top of the league team, elite stars, and annual playoff births.  WTAF.

A decade ago this board started predicting the Bruins demise too.  Let’s not be proud of what the Sabres are building until they’ve actually done something to make us proud, ffs.

As PA likes to point out, Sabres PR and marketing doing a bang up job with this low expectation fanbase.

ETA- Let’s not forget that the current Leafs team is essentially what the Sabres were until 15yrs ago, and we were more than happy to love a team that had stars, had success and expectations, but couldn’t quite put together playoff success (other than a run behind a world class goalie and a mediocre set of skaters).  We used to be what Toronto is now, and that’s exactly what we are all hoping we might be able scratch and claw back into.

And I feel like Benson is primarily a playmaker

Edit - I see this has been covered

But he is Ben Affleck I stand by that part

I have a hard time comparing Benson to Sabres past.  He’s not the prototypical top 6 skillset, but he’s got a unique level of compete that overcomes it to some extent.

We are into “concept of” level of discussion regarding Benson.  My initial thought was, if Drury was a winger instead of a center, their games might be similar.  But it’s Chris ***** Drury.  I don’t want to make that comparison. And I shouldn’t make that comparison. It’s way too soon.

I’d rather package our first with one or more of our young players and prospects to get someone better than anyone on that list.

Whoever gets the best player in the present almost always wins the trade. I don’t give any about how much it could potentially hurt our team in five years from now. We are losers now, it’s not like we can be downgraded to super losers. We’d have hit that status years ago.

We are already super losers.  Record setters, FFS.  That’s why I don’t understand the angst over “what if prospect X becomes awesome somewhere else”.  I don’t give a damned about prospect X being good for someone else a few years down the line.  I care about this team right now playing its way back to respectability.

Certainly butter is superior to olive oil in all bread-related matters (although IMHO the garlic bread comes out quite delicious with olive oil).  I'm just trying to extend the average SabreSpacer's lifespan here.

Most of us don’t have the 401k savings to sub olive oil for butter.

I’m working on the 3 B’s retirement program, bacon, butter, and bourbon.  I have no intention of outliving my savings.

With the timing of the Lindy hire and it seeming like they knew he was going to be the guy, it makes me curious about Marty Wilford and Matt Ellis still being on staff.  Is there a chance these guys actually stick around?  Did Lindy just want a chance to meet / interview them?

The Lindy thing has been in the works for weeks, if not months.  I think Lindy decided to keep Ellis on before he signed on.

Or agreed to it as a condition on hiring.
