  1. No, you're right. :) I do that drill. I have no problem shaving the snow.

It's all pretty good advice. For me, though, skating hellbent for the boards, hoping to stop, or using the boards as a backstop if I don't, isn't a good option. I have no fear of falling. Hurtling uncontrollably, hitting my head on the ice, yes. (I don't skate with any equipment on.)

I'd like to just start with a slow one foot snow plow, but even that is eluding me.

You dont do that....... you start off like three feet from the boards. Take a short stride and try...... How could you read what I put and think of it as skating full speed at the boards?

  2. Both Goalies will be just getting back at that time (assuming they both stay to the close of the games on the 23rd)

It gives them one full day of travel to get back from Sochi and be ready to play the next day.

The Sabres better be hoping for anything but a Sweeden/US Gold medal game, although more then likely Enroth gets this game since he probably will not have actually played in any games for Sweeden since he looks to be the #3

Who is the two? I feel like the whole world hates lundquist right now

  3. That's a great idea. I think that would have really helped. I learned by FJ's "Just Go For It" method, though. One day I couldn't do it, then the next game I could.

It is the easiest way! My father taught me when I was four, and it was my first time in pads but i had been skating multiple times just using a toe stop. I also refused to fall down, I thought of it as a source of pride that I could skate without falling down.

Then we got on the ice in pads and he knocked me down! He ruined my streak of not falling down to prove to me that the pads would make falling not hurt and to not be afraid of falling down.

    After that stopping got easy.

  4. It isnt that hard, it is mostly just a leap of faith. YOU ARE GOING TO FALL. You might even hurt your butt however it shouldnt take that long to learn. A good 30 minutes of attempting to do it as I said and you should have it down. Then it is just building confidence so that you can do it when you are going full speed.

  5. Hockey stop… I'm skating at a modest speed and want to hockey stop (or even do a one foot snow plow). What's my first move? I'm at the point of paralysis by analysis right now and am getting pretty discouraged.

Its literally all courage. Just go for it! I would practice going slowly towards the end boards and then just put both skates against your momentum. then increase speed gradually, the boards are there to stop you and for you to grab onto if you lose your balance. ALTERNATE FEET every time or every few attempts, you want to be able to do it in each direction.

There is a good site with great pictures. I couldnt view the vids but the pictures are what you need. It is 98% mental and 2% balance in my opinion. If you can just ignore your brain and do it it wont take long at all to learn.

  6. Thanks!

haha! Probably not saying much, but Stafford is significantly more effective on the ice then Leino. Leino is virtually useless. He's as easy to knock over as a kewpie doll, and as fragile as a China doll. And we're halfway thru the season, and John Friggin Scott has scored more goals than LAME-o.

Is Leino officially the worst contract in Sabres' history?

Weirdly, I still feel pretty confident that the Leino contract is going to work out.

  7. Hodgson will always get his points. What has been highlighted this season is his laziness. He has been far from the player many thought the Sabres were getting. Kassian is filling his role on the Canucks very nicely, he is starting to produce more and is becoming a bit more consistent.

One thing for sure is those that declared the Sabres the winner of this trade were extremely premature.

Really? This isnt even a question. CoHo is the better player. Will be the better player and we most definitely won this trade. We also got what we needed more of and that scoring line center. Also Foligno does everything Kassian does and he does it better and not dirty.

  8. I was a Gerbe fan. Looking at the Sabres' forwards, I'd guess he'd be playing quite a bit this year. And I think he's Teddy's kind of guy.

It also looks like they gave up on Reggie too soon, although I suppose if Compher becomes a good NHLer, it might turn out to have been a good trade.

After watching Reggie in the last Olympics I thought he deserved a lot more playing time than he got here. I also liked Gerbe but with him and Ennis our team was way too small, you can only afford to have one of those types on a team in my opinion and Ennis is the better player.

  9. As soon as Miller's new team tries to engage negotiations and fails miserably, they'd ask for an investigation. Then the investigation would find the truth.

These things aren't easy to hide. Not today.

ESPECIALLY when there will likely be some more turn over in the franchise. When you have people leaving the organization then it won't be hard to get them to talk.

    Everything gets out these days.

No it wont. It has happened before and it will happen again. It is well within Millers rights to re-sign here. The players union wouldnt allow an investigation, just like they didnt allow an investigation when Tkachuk did it.

  10. I did a quick google search but found nothing but returns speculating on rentals and trades. It would be cool if you can confirm or deny it.

And you're in "Bad News" Va? Is that Christopher Newport's bad news?

It is! I live right around the corner from CNU. I have exhausted my search and while there was talk of putting in a Weight/Recchi/Tkachuk rule it has never happened. The Players Union would never allow it and Unrestricted Free agency is just that.... UNRESTRICTED

  11. I heard from a coworker of mine that there is a component of the CBA prohibiting a rental from re-signing with the team that dealt him. Do any of you know if there's any truth to that?

I am nearly positive that only applies to compliance buy outs but I will do some digging

  12. Unless Ott, who seems to be a stand up guy, has told the Sabres he will re-sign with them in the off season. It makes sense right? If you want to play on a team and you want that team to improve then why not tell the team you'll take a trade that will bring talent back the other way. Then you turn around and sign back with that team and boom and you're improved. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

This! That is what I am saying miller should do. Agree to the Lundquist deal before being dealt to a contender and the sabres make out like bandits and the team is better if not good next year.
