  1. I heard the news yesterday morning and i have to say I feel almost the same way, I really don't care that much. I will follow whats going on, watch a game when I can, but I doubt I will go out of my way to actually go see a game or pay for centre ice. I just find it hard to get excited over right now, so sick and tired of spending everyday hearing about how one side is so horrible to teh otehr and how they can agree how to divide up their millions fairly.
  2. Who thinks the Sabres would actually use this? Just because they have it, doesn't mean they have to use it I don't think the front office really wants to dump Leino so quickly. If they really want to have fun, the league should make it so the fans chose who gets bought out by the team
  3. Congrats, but about a week to early to get one the Sabres baby blanket and Certificate from TP (assuming you had it in Buffalo) I saw the article about it yesterday and told my wife, she now refuses to go anywhere near the Border with me around her due date. She still thinks the baby is going to be a Leafs fan like her........ (We did have discussions about having to come to a compromise that the Baby will be neither a Sabres nor Leafs, and may have to be a Red Wings fan)
  4. I watched it on TV Saturday night, didn't know he was in it, must have lost out in the first round Friday night
  5. I'm just going to stick with my Canadian Geography classes not going into too much detail about the American holy land that is NY to explain me not being certain that Brooklyn was part of Long Island.......
  6. I see it as the best deal for the Islanders. You get out of one of the worst arenas in the league, stay close enough to your current location that its not a 'relocation" and you get to play in a brand new facility that you didn't have to build yourself. When economic times get better, and either Long Island or the team can afford it, they can build a new "Hockey Only" Facility to play in The problem is that local governments and cities can't expect the teams to stay where they are if they aren't willing to help them out. Why would you be willing to stay somewhere that isn't going to help you out when there are other places willing to give you want your asking for? owners can sometimes try and take advantage of this, but people need to realise that its all a business and these owners didn't make their money by being generous and paying for everything themselves. Long Island does want to work with Wang and help him build a new facility, why should he be forced to stay there when another city can give him what he is asking for? Same with Edmonton (although that one seems to be falling into the second part about an owner trying to take advantage), if Edmonton doesn't want to help but Seattle will, its gonna suck if your an oilers fan.......... They would stick with the NY name I would bet, Brooklyn is a part of New York just like Long Island is. The Nets changed names to Brooklyn because technically they are no longer in New Jersey. It would make more sense to change the "Islanders" part......
  7. I can see alot of sporting venues going to slightly smaller capacities in the future, especially in smaller markets. The Jets are playing in a rink about this size right now. It would allow teams to charge a little more on their tickets to make up for lost revenue also by not having the larger seating capacity. With the current economic times, and the increase in quality of broadcasts to homes of the games, I could see teams going to smaller facilities in the future outside of places like NY, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Etc.
  8. Talks from a few weeks ago are Lafontaine has been asked to look into buying the team from Wang, but he wants a crazy hgh price for the team I just read something yesterday too that Lafontaine is still looking into it and getting closer to making a serious attempt to try and buy the team. The problem with Wang as an owner is that he has been focusing more on trying to get the new arena deal (something that team needs BADLY) and not focusing enough on the product being put on the ice. The team seems to be getting close to a playoff team. They have some good players, but just cant seem to get to that next level
  9. He got off easy I guessThats much better then what could have happened on a flight to an away game or practicing in a practice facility over there............. As for Sergeis comment, its ok, Theres a pretty good chance that even if the season started soon, you would be doing the same thing your doing right now along with your brother.......
  10. I really believe that alot of these big business owners will hire some more employees IF Romney is voted in and gives them more tax breaks only to make him look better and as a "Thank you" for the breaks. I also believe that alot of the big business owners are outsourcing and not hiring now to make the current government look bad and to get their guy in. You can give these businesses as many tax cuts/breaks as you want, it isn't going to change how many employees they have or hire because like LGR said, it doesn't change their demand for their service/product. Tie these tax breaks to hiring new workers and bring jobs back to the US from overseas and things will change though. Big businesses won't spend money to create jobs if they don't have to. If they can get away with spending less and turning a bigger profit, thats what they are going to do. Big Business isn't a charity, willing to create jobs just to help out the country
  11. I still love how everyone just blames Bettman for all this, like this is all happening just because of him, the hatred people have for this guy has no bounds. He could come up with a cure for Aids during this lockout and people will still hate him with a passion. Bettman and the Owners are as much to blame in this situation as Fehr and the NHLPA, both sides are arguing over how to split up a HUGE some of money and no one wants to negotiate or compromise. The problem is, that until enough people from one side get to a breaking point (most likely the players) there won't be any serious negotiations. The players all seem united now to sit back and wait for the owners to crack, but thats just the top tier guys in the league you hear saying that, guys that are making the majority of the cash, and who right now have the options of running to Russia to play. Theres alot more guys in that union who don't have that option, making closer to the league minimum that are going to get frustrated quickly and be happy taking what tehy can get while guys like Ovechkin continue to want to hold out longer because they are still making money playing in the KHL No matter which side "wins", and what they decide on, if the season does not start on time, the league is going to suffer and lose alot of fans. People are getting tired of losing parts of or all of a season while these guys argue over money, and to lose any part of another season is going to do some irrepairable damage. Alot of fans will still come back, but there are many that won't. The most frustrating part about this is that neither side appears to care about the league as a whole, and about getting a deal done. They already lost the pre-season, and they are getting closer to losing parts fo teh regular season, yet they cant get together more then 2 days in a row and more then a couple hours at a time. They have only exchanged a couple of proposals this entire time. They have not shown any urgency to get this done, and I think thats what makes this worse. I have said it before in the past and I really believe that the way to resolve all of these labour negotiations is to have both sides give their best proposals to a neutral mediator who will then review the proposals, and the financial state of the league and its teams, and come up with an agreement thats fair to both sides. Problem solved The biggest arguements seem to be that the owners should be willing to give up more then half the revenue/profits to the players because "They make the owners money", yet the owners are the ones investing their own money into providing the players a place to make large sums of money to play a game. How many other businesses or industries pay their employees more then 50% of their revenues/profits? Those employees are out there making the owners money, and those owners are investing their money to provide those employees a job. The problem these days is that athletes are being paid so much money, to play a game that makes them feel like they are doing something so vital and important to everyone in the world that they deserve it all, when if you look at it, the importance of their work to the world is at the same level or just below Walmart Greeter.............
  12. Does he?Cause up until this last offseason I wouldn't think anyone would say that Lindy got a physical roster Just because he asked for it or wants it, doesn't mean Darcy gives it to him
  13. Drive the Zamboni? I would do that for free...... As for playing Hockey, I know many Canadians and Americans, young and old that pay to play in hockey leagues
  14. The Owners/Moderators of this board have decided to lock their players/posters out of the NHL thread on this board! When is our next poster union meeting? I may have to go post on the KHL board or some board in Switzerland now! yeah, but then they may ask for "talent sharing" ...................
  15. How often does this really happen though? How many Career ending injuries happened this season? (And I'm not talking about injuries to players at the end of their career and they decided to retire)
  16. That would also result in employees losing jobs if a regular business shut down the unprofitable ones
  17. Is this risk really that much higher in comparison to many other jobs? How many police officers/firemen die each year on the job, How many Hockey players die each year while working? How many police officers/firemen get hurt or suffer injuries that have long term effects ont heir health each year compared to Hockey players? Replace police officers/firemen with people in the Construction industry, working in Mines, Factories, etc. and see what the numbers are If the players are worried about risking their health, no ones forcing them to do such a dangerous job, they can always take one of the safer jobs listed above  And players have put a money value on their health, its whatever the minimum salary in the nhl is currently at...... But does that mean the previous owner didn't lose anything?
  18. ???? Ferrells Bush II was just as good as Carveys Bush, They even had Ferell do a one man show as Bush II Darell Hammonds Clinton was also pretty good Armison did a much better Blind Governor then his Obama, which i don't think anyone has really been able to do well I think the reason why they don't do much Obama is because he really hasn't said or done much that they could mock. Bush, Romney, Bidon, Palin, etc, they seem to have had something that could be mocked weekly, it seems like they are writing the material for these shows for them. I always thought the day Bushs term finished, and Palin/McCain lost was a sad day for the Comedy world because they had comedic gold falling into their laps with them.
  19. Someones hitched a ride on the Players Propaganda Train..........................
  20. And so do the players when they sign their contracts, they know about the Escrow payments and that the total amount in their contract may not be the total amount they receive in their bank accounts at the end of the month. The point is the Owners take the risk of using actual cash and assetts of their own and risk it on owning a franchise. If the franchise loses money, its their actual money they put into the franchise that is lost. The players on the other hand are not putting any of their own cash/assetts into the team, and the only thing they may lose is a percentage of an amount they agreed to sign for. No matter what happens to their escrow payment, they always come out of the season with more money then they went into it. Their loss is in potential pay, owners loss is in actual money Show me an example of a player who finished the season in the red, actually owing a team money............
  21. Exactly, they aren't proposing to throw it out and change the system, just make some changes to hopefully work out some of the kinks/holes that became apparent in it
  22. If they want to continue to play a game for a living making more in a few year career tehn many will see in a lifetime (at a time where unemployment rates for normal people is at one of its highest), Yeah Or elese the league can contract the losing teams or allow them to go bankrupt, meaning less employment opportunities for players. Not saying I agree with the owners fully either, but it is their money they are investing so these players can have work playing a game for a living. It doesn't look good on their end when they cry poor after signing these players to long term, high $ deals, but those aren't all their faults, the players are demanding these deals and if they want to continue to make profits, they need to ice a competitive team with big name players. I can guarantee the Owner of the Preds didn't want to match that deal for Suter this offseason, but seeing as how the outcome of letting him go would probably have him losing Millions and fans who lost the teams Star player
  23. Why would you side with the Players? And I agree with Labatt. I don't have a problem with the players and owners arguing over the CBA and money, I have a problem with the little urgency that both sides seem to have in this situation and that neither side seems to really care about missing games (they just blame the other side for them missing games). Its even worse that they are using the fans to fight against each other by making videos to try and get us on their side
  24. Did he? Were the Sabres not interested or not going to make the offer they did until his agent called and asked them to make a huge offer to his client? Did his agent even have to lift a finger for Buffalo to make him that deal? i think its the 15th
