  1. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this storm. In regards to Obama and the above comment( by Wjag ) I think he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't in this situation especially in an election year. From my perspective as an outsider, I'm sure he was referring to how historically the American people are known to bounce back in the face of extreme conditions. But thats just my take.

  2. Thoughts and prayers to all.

We have some wind and rain today, but as the storm double backs east we will get more over-night tonight and tomorrow.

Nova Scotia Power is notorious for having problems at the slightest wind, so I fully expect to loose power at some point.

A rodo we re-located earlier this fall has blown over already. I will spend some time securing it and double checking other trees and bushes, but I don't anticipate too much damage. Have packed away the deck chairs etc. for the season already.

EDIT: Lost in the focus, rightly so, on Sandy. BC had a powerful earthquake on the weekend, with some after shocks. It was in a pretty remote part, so I am not sure of damage.

    Bun,

You are out in BC. Any news?

Yeah saturday night 7.7 up in the queen charlottes which is now called Haida Gwai. Not an overly populated area but they has tsunami warnings all over the coast and over to Hawaii. Yesterday another 6.3 which may have just been an aftershock. There have been quite a few of those. I'm on Vancouver Island and never felt a thing. The epicenter is quite a ways away to the north.

  3. I was disappointed with last night's show. Now they have split the show into two independent story lines. Seems like they will alternate between the two each week. Also wasn't keen how a bunch of soldiers get snuck up on in Zombie country and slaughtered.

I'm thinking that American troops are some of the best trained in the world so that scene was hard to swallow really but this show hasn't lost me yet. I'm still diggin the story line and where they're taking it so far. You've got to believe that 'if ' this was reality they would run into other communities of survivors and power struggles would ensue as I'm sure we're about to see. I imagine the govenor was thinking about adding to his collection of bottled heads as he sipped his scotch in the final scene last night. MUAHAHAHA

  4. Awesome!

After listening to the link in your post I have to say it looks to me as if they bought their soul back after they sold it on that Terminator BS of an album. I love their early stuff and this effort has brought them back to their roots.

    I like!!

I agree with your assessment. The older real bluesy stuff like tres hombres and rio grande mud to name a couple were so much better than their stab at the mass market. Getting back to what got them here is sounding good. I recently read a good interview with Billy Gibbens and Dan Auerbach of the Black keys in Rolling Stone where they discuss all the old american blues greats and their styles and in particular what it was about those guys that originally got them interested in the blues. A real good read.

  5. Hold up; no one said there is no interest.

Sorry Eleven. My bad, I misread your post. True its national sporting efforts are underfunded but then again with the conservatives and Harper in government all sports are underfunded. They just cut 22 million to services for aboriginal youth and spent 28 million on celebrations, festivities and 'education' for the war of 1812. A different topic but with decisions like that you can understand why sports are underfunded. Many olympic competitors have to raise their own money and work a nine to five job just to be able to compete. They want the glory and national pride that comes with sporting victories on the world stage but don't want to make an investment towards that goal. I certainly won't be making any excuses for these a$$ clowns.

  6. My stepmom's 13 year old niece broke her leg last October, and when she went in to the hospital to have it fixed, they found out she had bone cancer. They did a titanium bone replacement for her entire femur and put her on chemo, and she's been in the hospital ever since. Now they've had to give up and amputate her leg because there wasn't enough to her hip bone for it to take, and the cancer has spread to her lungs. The doctors have told her family that she's not going to make it, but no one has told the girl yet. I've never met this little girl and don't know her personally, but it's so tragic to hear of a young person who will never have the chance to grow up. I seem to recall the son of another poster here (Bunomatic?) had a brush with cancer a while back, and I pray he's fully recovered and that you never have to go through what this girl's family is currently facing.

Edit: And Arc, I hope your grandmother recovers and is able to go home before too long.

My thoughts and prayers as well. My sons still fighting and doing well considering.

  7. So now because Gary Roberts disagrees, Hodgson being an issue for the Canucks GM isn't true? And even if it is true, whats the big deal? He had issues in Vancouver where they misdiagnosed his injury, and he was stuck behind a couple of superstars for playing time. I wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks GM had to spend alot of time dealing with him and what to do with him. Its also possible that he is now in a place where he will be happier and won't be an issue the GM has to spend alot of time on. I don't think Roberts was there in Vancouver at all to see what was going on and is only going off of his dealing with him in the offseason, away from the team. no one ever said he wasn't a hard worker, or that he wasn't trying, Gillis just said that he spent alot of time dealing with Cody the last few years. The fact that Cody doesn't want to talk about or look back on his time in Vancouver and dispute the comments from Gillis lead me to believe that theres probably alot of truth to Gillis comments, he wasn't happy there and may have had issues with the Canucks management and now he has moved on and is putting it behind him to start fresh.

But of course, on this board, everything seems to have to be Black or White, with either Cody being a malcontent who (with a demanding father) will constantly be agrevating and complaining to management, or he is a sweet and innocent kid who some evil GM is trying to defame to cover his own behind in a mistake of a deal

Actually, the Canucks head coach Alain whatsisname called him out publicly during training camp a couple years back when he was going through the backproblems and basically said he was faking. So someone did in fact say he wasn't a hard worker and that he wasn't trying. The Vancouver franchise dropped the ball and called out a 19 or 20 year old publicly because their medical staff misdiagnosed his injury and they essentially thought he was faking it. Dumbkoffs!
