I think they will be fine...that's why they got Pilut. Willing to bet he looks a lot better under Meatball's system than he did last time he was here.

I think they will be fine for a couple games if we only have to rely on Fitz/Bryson/Pilut.  Longer term I’d worry they’d struggle as we get a lot smaller on the backend with that line-up.

  2. I’m also of the opinion we don’t want Quinn sitting in the press box too often this season.  He should be motivated and would hopefully come in and give his line a boost like Hinny did when he got his chance.

I picked Krebs over VO to sit for the simple fact Granato was super patient with VO last season with his wrist injury/slump and he eventually played his way out of it.  Krebs on the other hand is giving an solid effort, but his decision making hasn’t been good.  He could probably benefit the most from sitting a game or too.

Have more Floyd than they realize they released.  😉

Was really glad to have gone.  He played more stuff than expected & played pretty much everything expected.  (Though thought he might play a song or 2 from his solo stuff and was pleasantly surprised he didn't.  His solo material was the weakest of the 5 IMHO (though his was better than the worst of Syd's but not as good as the near handful of good tracks Syd put out solo.  Also thought he might've played Cyballine rather than The Nile Song.  Had hoped for Wots ... Uh, the Deal but with him already playing 4 tracks off Obscurred By Clouds it wasn't in the cards.  Would've been 1/2 that album. 3 tracks off Meddle, 3 off A Saucerful of Secrets, 3 off Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and a couple from Atom, Heart, Mother.  LOTS of good early stuff.)

And was telling my son about how Floyd opened with Echoes the very 1st time I saw them & it was incredible, so was pumped that he could (almost) experience it.  The other musicians were very good, but Gilmour & Wright are on a separate plane & are pretty much impossible to duplicate.

Was also impressed with how much Nick talked to the crowd.  He really seemed to be having fun.  And it was really cool to focus on him throughout the show.  His economy of movement is amazing.  Which explains how a 78 year old drummer can play for more than 2 hours over 2-1/2 hours.

Had ALMOST the same seats from having seen Gilmour in Shea's back in '84 & had awesome seats back then.  Was about 2 seats closer to center stage this time.  We had some early 20's near us who got fully into the spirit of the show.  They looked like extras out of Sargeant Pepper's.

Had forgotten just how good Atom Heart Mother is though it was very strange hearing it without the orchestral backup on it.

Great show.  Too bad there were so many empty seats.  A lot more people could've heard a great show.

I was surprised with the number of open seats too and people definitely missed out if they weren’t there. I’m so glad I went and had a chance to experience it as it was intended to be experienced 🤩🤩

Great show.  He played for over 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission & a 3 song encode.  Played at least 1 song off all the albums pre-Dark Side of the Moon & at least 5 early singles that didn't end up on any studio albums.  Opened with One of These Days.  Closed the 2nd set with Echoes.  And the final encore song was Bike.

This was an incredible show.  I don’t listen to much Floyd and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ok, I don't love Zegras, but that's a pretty funny response.

Without a doubt. And I probably would have made a similar statement because I’m a ballbuster. But I’m also smart enough to read the room and if I was playing a preseason game in Arizona I’d keep my head up lol

  6. I heard Zegras talking crap about Arizona on spitting chiclets the other day and then this happens last night

Personally I love the hit and the fact there was probably some malice behind it for the disrespect Zegras showed.

Edit: Zegras was asked if he had the Yotes game circled on his calendar and he had replied “no one has Arizona games circled on their calendar”

How about if we let JJP actually beat out Girgensens before we give him the job?   Isn't that the culture we want?

This team is very young, we need a few vets.  Girgs is a hard working good soldier.  If by the end of the year we see that a trade is beneficial then we address it.

I don’t disagree, I just think that’s a very big if to assume JJP (or insert any unproven rookies name here) beats out Girgs in the checking line/PK role.

Also, you don’t necessarily want to trade your character vet(s) for a 4-7th rounder when you are in another developmental season IF he is helping those younger players learn the game at this level.

Now if I get offered a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, I’m making that trade in a heartbeat no matter the situation…

  8. I'm pretty sure Ales Kotalik had his best season at age 27, which is the same age Victor was last year.  They both have very similar styles and I expect their trajectory will be the same.  Victor will have another productive year, probably slightly better than last year for points/game, but I don't see him hitting 60pts in an 82 game span.

“I think you gotta let Skinner be Skinner.  He's at his best when he is flying down the ice with the puck on his stick, circling around the net looking for a shot or a swat, and getting on the other teams nerves.  So I'm looking to draw up plays that get him the first pass out of the d-zone, and put him on a line with a playmaker and someone with speed and finish that he can look to pass to on the rush.“ @shaaaught!, Sabrespace

Not clear whether @SHAAAUGHT!!! is actually Don Granato, but what is clear is this is what Granato basically did with his $9 million 7-goal scorer last year, and it resulted in a return to form from Skinner's dismal performances in the previous two seasons under Ralph Krueger.

Skinner doubled his shooting percentage for the previous season’s career low, but his 12.6 wasn’t too far off his career 10.9 average. More significantly, his shots taken also doubled, back in line with his totals in the 5 years previous to Krueger. His ES possession numbers rebounded to 3rd among team regulars. And he resumed his accustomed post in the top 20 of NHL even-strength goal scorers.

It wasn’t all smooth — Skinner had just 3 points in October and only 2 in December — but his consistency improved along with the team’s post-Christmas and his 63 points matched his career high.

Jeff Skinner has never followed up a 30-goal season with more than 24. He’s never followed up 60+ points with more than 49.

He has also never played back-to-back seasons with a centre he complemented as well as Tage Thompson or with a coach who has appeared to trust him as much as Granato.

He enters the season firmly ensconced on the Sabres top line, but with a track record of inconsistencies and multiple members of the new core nipping at his heels.

What do you expect from Jeff Skinner?

(Last year’s takes here, congrats to @pi2000 and @Sabres Fan in NS as the only Spacers to correctly predict Skinner’s return to form)

    I’m a lot of things, but Don Granato I am not… 😁

As I mentioned previously, Skinners success will likely depend on proper usage and playing with capable line mates.  I don’t see Granato breaking up the Skinner/TT combo, unless Casey’s play (good or bad) necessitates mixing up the lines.  My prediction is that Skinner nets over 31 goals playing with Tage again, or over 25 playing with Casey.  In either case I see him duplicating, or coming very close to duplicating, last year’s success.
