This issue is by now conclusively resolved. In the event there were any doubt on the topic:
I just saw this too. He shut her down and then shooed her away like a barn animal. I’m curious to see how he defends it but looks like he turned off his social media accounts…

I was hoping for Tom Wilson possibly or Greenway. I just kept it to myself because I know how people on this board feel about Wilson.
Same here.
Peters and Rivet have spoke about Greenway almost every episode the talk potential, trades which is the only reason I was aware of him.

Is it me, or are the asking prices insane this year? The return for Jeannot was even crazier than this deal
I think the lack of available cap space is driving prices higher this year.

These Tampa announcers always have such terrible takes. The color commentator just said “you are allowed to check from behind as long as you don’t cross check them, but there is no rule against checking someone from behind.”
Rule 608 does not say that whatsoever.

I think this is a great pick up for the Leafs given that they need to push for winning now. Surprised they were able to make the salary work. Minnesota only gets a 4th for picking up a 1/4 of his salary (seems low to me).
It cost Toronto A LOT to make that salary work with their cap.

I’m shocked he was allowed to make this trade. This screams “last ditch effort” to make it out of the first round.
It’s great for him either way though. If it works he looks like a GM that isn’t afraid to make hard decisions to push his team to the next level, if it fails he gets fired and starts over with a new team with actual assets left to work with. Well played doobie.

I read that in 2017 he spent some $1.2 million on exotic snakes. I knew right there how serious a problem he had lol
hope he gets his life in order, but don't blame the Sabres for it. Even if he ever had a legitimate gripe there were probably better ways to handle it & there were bigger issues going on where some personal responsibility is what you need... something he evidently lacked.
$1.2M that he claims. The underground reptile market is absolutely crazy (the Tiger King reference isn’t far off) and when he was with the Sabres he frequented a reptile place in Lockport that regularly gets in trouble or fined for illegal sales.

Z, KO are the key UFA’s this off-season. Jost is the key remaining RFA for this season. Come July 1st, RFAs for 2023-24 Power, Dahlin, Mitts, Joki, Bryson and UPL can be extended. Will any of them be extended early or will KA again wait until mid-season next year to start getting these done. We have a dedicated thread for Dahlin, but it might be worth discussing the merits of extending the others.
I do think Jost and Z will be retained will identical 3yr 2.5 per season deals. I also think he may extend Krebs in a similar deal this summer to lock up his centers. The rest I have no idea how KA might handle it.
The only remaining contract negotiations that matter this year are for Dahlin, Power, Levi, and UPL.
Power should sign his first. 8 for 8.
Levi should sign his entry level deal next and play the next 2-4 years in Rochester. The fact the Sabres have no goalies on contract in a 2 years is too enticing to return to college.
Once Levi signs his deal GMKA will move to extend UPL for another 3-4 years promising him the starter role. I’d like to see a 3 year extension, but it may take 4 to get him to sign.
Dahlin signs his extension on day 1.
Krebs should see a similar bridge deal that Tage got 2x3.
Sabres also sign Jost to make up for losing Z or Okposo. Okposo is fine at 1.75x1, and Z at 2.5x2, but either could be replaced by UFA veterans, just hopefully not both of them.
Bryson hasn’t even earned his current contract yet so no extension there.
I also don’t expect them to extend Joker until next season, if at all. -

It's gonna be 12.
I don’t think it will hit 12.
GMKA is going to sit him down and say “yes Rasmus, you are without a doubt a $12M+ dollar player any day of the week, but we want this team to be a cup contender for the next decade and managing the cap like Tampa Bay does will get us there. This deal will give you the best chance of skating that cup around the rink at least once, but hopefully multiple times.”
Dahlin will look up with his blue eyes and blond hair flowing magnificently in the wind (which is weird because they are indoors) and say “you had me at cup contender for a decade.”
Make it happen GMKA.

My prediction: $92M ($11.5Mx8 years)

The unfriendly confines of KBC and the young legs of the Sabres will put a dent in that record.
Grabbed tickets last night because I expect the crowd will be rocking from Sabres recent play and Dahlin’s love letter, and because I want to see a dejected Hurricanes team skate off the ice at the end of 60min.

I think teams can negotiate an extension with a player in their last year before a trade. Isn't that what Florida was allowed to do with Reinhart?
Yes they can, and I heard somewhere Grier already said once they have a deal worked out the team can start negotiating the extension with his agent.
-
It will not take a 2024 1st to get Timo. If a GM offers it, Grier will jump on that.
I think it would take a high-end prospect not named Savoie, Mitts, and one of the 2nd rounders we have in 2024. Timo signs 7x8.5, Tage and him become best friends, Timo and Dahlin start a hiphop dance crew, and the Sabres make the playoffs.
Make the move GMKA.

Tell him that he played really well and that his trajectory is on the right path. He is young and needs games. Continued good play can turn a good Rochester team into a contender, there is value in winning at the AHL level. He and Subban can be a great tandem in that league.
Comrie needs some games to regain his form and to show what he can do. If he or Anderson break or falter then UPL comes, knowing the job can be had.
I agree. I’d like to see UPL carry this success with him in the AHL, go down and dominate for 2-3 weeks to show it’s no fluke, and force GMKA to make a tough decision at that time.

Sabres were 7-3-0 before the 0-8 November slide. Since then they are 7-3-2.
Hopefully we start getting d-men back so we don’t risk another slide. Boosh is a great 5/6 d-man on this team, but Power is 23min a night and I don’t want to rely on Pilut/Fitz/Bryson/Clague long-term to cover those minutes.
Clague has looked a lot better with more reps, but Pilut/Fitz/Bryson don’t inspire confidence when they are forced to play over 14min a game.

It’s close, but TT is the difference in most the games for the Sabres this year.
That said, Dahlin is also playing lights out right now. I think if you removed either guy from the team the Sabres would be a bottom 3 team in the league right now.

They talk highly of Tage but the first half was painful when they were talking about what happened at barstool sports
Yeah, I only watch this podcast for certain interviews. They get real annoying real quick.

Really good interview with Nikita Zadorov. He goes into details about missing the flight and getting suspended by the team, and the time he overslept for practice. Also genuinely seems to have enjoyed his time in Buffalo.
Interview starts at 1:24:50 and he starts talking Buffalo Sabres at 1:57:46

Sabres are tied for 2nd right now with Boston at 96 goals for, only 2 goals shy of the leader Dallas.
So why is the record as bad as it is? Well, the Sabres are tied with Columbus for the most goals against in the eastern conference with 92.
Issue is definitely inconsistent goaltending and bad defense. But is it system related or player based?
I personally go back and forth as to the root cause and I’m curious to see what everyone thinks.

So, based on their ages this will still be an appropriate comparison to make next year as well. 👍
No. This is more of a “3-young-guys-that-are-the-potential-future-of-the-franchise-first-year-playing-in-league-together” type comparison.

I hit up stubhub to see a Maybe Win tonight in person.
Both teams had a few days off and should come out with energy. This is the first of 3 games in 4 nights so it would be nice to bank a W in game 1- 2

Has Casey Mittelstadt changed any minds?

Casey has come a long way, but I’m not sure he has a place on this team unless he can start burying more high chance opportunities. In my mind Quinn has already surpassed him on the depth chart.
