  1. I heard Zegras talking crap about Arizona on spitting chiclets the other day and then this happens last night

Personally I love the hit and the fact there was probably some malice behind it for the disrespect Zegras showed.

Edit: Zegras was asked if he had the Yotes game circled on his calendar and he had replied “no one has Arizona games circled on their calendar”

How about if we let JJP actually beat out Girgensens before we give him the job?   Isn't that the culture we want?

This team is very young, we need a few vets.  Girgs is a hard working good soldier.  If by the end of the year we see that a trade is beneficial then we address it.

I don’t disagree, I just think that’s a very big if to assume JJP (or insert any unproven rookies name here) beats out Girgs in the checking line/PK role.

Also, you don’t necessarily want to trade your character vet(s) for a 4-7th rounder when you are in another developmental season IF he is helping those younger players learn the game at this level.

Now if I get offered a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, I’m making that trade in a heartbeat no matter the situation…

  3. I'm pretty sure Ales Kotalik had his best season at age 27, which is the same age Victor was last year.  They both have very similar styles and I expect their trajectory will be the same.  Victor will have another productive year, probably slightly better than last year for points/game, but I don't see him hitting 60pts in an 82 game span.

“I think you gotta let Skinner be Skinner.  He's at his best when he is flying down the ice with the puck on his stick, circling around the net looking for a shot or a swat, and getting on the other teams nerves.  So I'm looking to draw up plays that get him the first pass out of the d-zone, and put him on a line with a playmaker and someone with speed and finish that he can look to pass to on the rush.“ @shaaaught!, Sabrespace

Not clear whether @SHAAAUGHT!!! is actually Don Granato, but what is clear is this is what Granato basically did with his $9 million 7-goal scorer last year, and it resulted in a return to form from Skinner's dismal performances in the previous two seasons under Ralph Krueger.

Skinner doubled his shooting percentage for the previous season’s career low, but his 12.6 wasn’t too far off his career 10.9 average. More significantly, his shots taken also doubled, back in line with his totals in the 5 years previous to Krueger. His ES possession numbers rebounded to 3rd among team regulars. And he resumed his accustomed post in the top 20 of NHL even-strength goal scorers.

It wasn’t all smooth — Skinner had just 3 points in October and only 2 in December — but his consistency improved along with the team’s post-Christmas and his 63 points matched his career high.

Jeff Skinner has never followed up a 30-goal season with more than 24. He’s never followed up 60+ points with more than 49.

He has also never played back-to-back seasons with a centre he complemented as well as Tage Thompson or with a coach who has appeared to trust him as much as Granato.

He enters the season firmly ensconced on the Sabres top line, but with a track record of inconsistencies and multiple members of the new core nipping at his heels.

What do you expect from Jeff Skinner?

(Last year’s takes here, congrats to @pi2000 and @Sabres Fan in NS as the only Spacers to correctly predict Skinner’s return to form)

    I’m a lot of things, but Don Granato I am not… 😁

As I mentioned previously, Skinners success will likely depend on proper usage and playing with capable line mates.  I don’t see Granato breaking up the Skinner/TT combo, unless Casey’s play (good or bad) necessitates mixing up the lines.  My prediction is that Skinner nets over 31 goals playing with Tage again, or over 25 playing with Casey.  In either case I see him duplicating, or coming very close to duplicating, last year’s success.

I expect Ilya to bring the boom!

I think he will bring a level of toughness with him that will set the tone most nights.

He will make sure the other team has their head up all night because he will hit anyone anywhere, and isn’t afraid to follow it up with his fists.

I’m estimating he has over 15 jaw dropping open ice hits this season and will end up being a fan favorite as a heavy hitting/shutdown/PK specialist.

  6. I see Casey being the guy that pushes these young defensemen to not only bring it every night, but ensure they are showing game over game improvement.  Because he is going to be there to step in if Power shies away from the physical play, or Samuelson loses confidence, someone gets injured, etc.  Casey is the guy on the team that is looking for that opportunity to show his value and I'm excited to see what he does in '22-'23 if he gets a regular spot for 8-10 games.

I think he beats out Pilut for the 7th D role on the team this year at some point because he has a broader skillset, and plays fearless.  I'm rooting for Pilut too, but IMO he has a lot more to prove than Fitz.

They are pretty good on reporting rumors and posting breaking news, you just have to wade through the pop-ups

Ok i understand you need to  take a risk but with 1 year and 4 consecutive ***** ones is my concern.

Cozens would be my ideal take a chance on for a long-term type deal he's showed  Glimpses of excellency

This makes no sense. You’d give Cozens a long term type deal before he’s proven anything, but the TT deal is a huge risk?  This is just silly.

Bill Burr show was great last night.  He did at least 1.5 hours himself with several Buffalo specific bits too.  He really is one of the best in the business.

Next show Im going to is Monday night, August 29th at the Mohawk place.  My band is lucky enough to be opening for Daikaiju, one of the best, if not the best, surf bands doing it today.

Daikaiju was amazing.  Very rarely does a band live up to expectations and they 100% crushed it.

Next up is the Culture Club and the English Beat tonight at Artpark.

Also picked up tickets last week to see Ween both nights they play Boston in October.

  11. Sabres are definitely better than last year, but I look at it like this:

Is Buffalo better than Tampa and Florida?  Nope.

Better than Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa?  Probably not.

Better than Boston or Detroit.  Yes.

Sabres might play together as a team better than Montreal, Toronto, or Ottawa does, but there are still a lot of question marks with every team in this division outside the state of Florida…

Usually I'm doom and gloom on Rosen, but the WJC website has him listed at 5'11 174lb. Not a bad weight gain.

There was a good article today in the Athletic about Rosen's development and how COVID really impacted his ability to get time and reps in, but this junior tourney has highlighted his capabilities.

His father also spoke how he expects Isak to eventually fill out, as he played professionally at 6 foot and 200lbs.

  13. I went into this summer only planning on buying Porno for Pyros tickets if they came within 4 hours of Buffalo, but ended up with tickets for Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets at Sheas, Billy Strings in Rochester, and Bill Burr.  Going to pick up Culture Club tickets this weekend at the Art Park box office.  Still waiting for a Pyros tour to be announced...

But he ended up eating it anyway, so what's the point?

Dynamics vary from company to company and industry to industry, but the intent of that tactic is to create a situation where someone finally caves and provides the information you want them to provide.  Secondary benefits/results from this tactic are below:

    1) typically if the person responsible doesn’t eventually speak up or take responsibly they are either fired, put on notice, or lose a considerable amount of respect/clout which eventually leads to them finding a job elsewhere

    2) it’s a message to everyone else in that room that if you make an avoidable mistake you better be ready to answer for it, or see #1 above

Sit in silence in a meeting for 45 minutes?  That is pure psychopath behavior.

This is actually a highly effective negotiation tactic.  People will become uncomfortable in silence and will just start talking to fill the space.  I’ve hit the 6 minute mark in negotiations before, but 45 minutes is next level.  Say what you will about Tommy Boy and his effectiveness, but there is no denying he is an expert negotiator.

  16. Picked up 2 tickets to see Billy Strings in Rochester in August.  Had tickets to see him May 2020 at Babeville but that ended up getting cancelled.

This guy inspired me to pick my guitar back up and try something different with it a few years ago.
