You know what pisses me off the most about Leino? It's not that his making WAY too much money, and brings absolutely nothing. It's that he claimed he could play center, then two weeks into the season starts bitching about it, making remarks about "how he's much more comfortable on the wing" etc. etc. Yes, Darcy made a huge mistake bringing in him in, and basically everyone could see in advance that Leino was NOT a center, but nevertheless he should've kept his yap shut about being able to play that position cause he sure as ###### can't.

Not that I can blame him....

I don't like the approach, but I agree with it 100%. I also think the best way to go about this is tell him straight up - "Look Ryan, we're screwed with assets, you're one of the few we have. If you want to test free agency that's your right, but we simply can't let you walk for nothing, therefore.....". That said, he could pull a Hasek and screw the Sabres right back.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if that was it. I think you could argue that case for most of the team, even Roy. And I also agree Zhitnik was underrated, he only had two flaws in his game - He had no shot, and he had a knack for taking stupid penalties at crucial times. I remember watching his first game with the Isles against the Sabres, I believe the Sabres won 6-5, 6-4 or something. It was a draw late, then Zhitnik took a penalty. I remember telling my buddy "Sabres score, it's Z in the box". Lo and behold, they did. Zhitnik costing a late PP goal seemed as sure as death and taxes. *Edit May have the game wrong, might not have been the 6-4 game.

Kotalik started out well, and managed to get that big shot off more often than not, then turned into a world class floater with the rest of the floaters, once it became apparent floating was ok. Loved his shot, loved him in the shootouts, but once he stopped skating in games, he became next to useless.

Well, at least as an expansion team you get to pick #1, we don't even have that :blink:

Looks like that's what it'll take to beat out Edmonton though. I don't mean to take a shot at anyone here, and going forward, history doesn't matter much, but if you want to know what this rebuild would've looked like 4 years from now, had Regier NOT been canned? I think Edmonton is where you need to look. Never did I see a team with so much talent, stink so outrageously bad. I fear this is exactly what we would've been in for.

I agree with this. By canning Regier, the Sabres made the statement - "We've turned over a new leaf, the old organisation is gone. No more free rides for anyone, this is going to be about winning, and we're willing to do what it takes to become a winner." I have to imagine there are a few players around the league, crossing off the Sabres from their "no ###### way I'm going there" lists about now.
