  1. The Jags went into their "prevent defense" in the 2nd quarter? No wonder they are 2-5

If the Bills D held the lead against the Jags would EJ be getting credit for the "W" or would people being saying, "it was just the Jags."

The overall point is that this great divide in talent that some fans, and to an extent WGR, are trying to create just doesn't exist. The only difference in my eyes is that Taylor came from a much better situation in Baltimore than Manuel has had here in Buffalo the previous two seasons which has hampered EJ's development. There is no reason to discard Manuel, Taylor has not proven he is any teams long term solution. It is still very much in doubt who will end up the better NFL QB. They can both end up starters in the league or they can both end up being backups.

This is patently absurd. Taylor has far more talent, even if we just consider his scrambling ability.  Now, you're right htat doesn;t mean he's the long term answer but EJ has all the tools but is NOT progressing.  He misses far too many throws, even in warmups to ever be a full time starter.  Those issues, which has always had, almost never are corrected at the NFL level.

Tyrod is a more accurate passer, and isn't afraid to throw more than 10 yards.

  2. Bill Maher brought up the same dilemma when Bin Laden was killed. According to the New Testament acts like that shouldn't happen and shouldn't be celebrated by people who follow the teachings of Jesus and try to emulate his works and way of thinking/acting.

As an atheist I have no such requirements so I happily celebrated the death of Bin Laden and would celebrate the demise of people like that who prey on the sick, stupid, and/or old. It makes me wish there was a God just so I could see what happens to the folks who abuse it for their own selfish needs. I would especially like to see how the ones from Westboro Baptist Church or even the guys like Swaggert and Haggert who exemplify the epitome of hypocrisy.

Bc for many, it's about being part of the group, a group that they view as superior to others.  And when it comes to actually following the word in the text, or even its themes, well that just not as important.  (this is in no way aimed at anyone on this thread, just in general)

Maher has a point when it comes to killing and the death penalty, that the very religious shouldn't be in favor of this based on the scripture, yet the most religious are most likely to support it.

  3. Whatever role he plays he will be an upgrade to who he replaces. I would rather have a career NHL'er who lost a step in my bottom 6 than a career AHL'er who doesn't belong in the league. We have seen enough of that the last few years.

I was trying to put together my thoughts on Legwand but you nailed it.

  4. Thanks for the insight on the labor law stuff.

What you've outlined there -- as to the merits of his claims about Goodell acting outside the CBA and outside "law of the shop" and therefore denying Brady the right to defend himself or be on notice of what the possible punishment would be -- should absolutely be in play on a motion for preliminary injunction. I say that because the merits of your claim are a key part of whether a judge is likely to grant you a provisional remedy.

Right but as Eleven laid out I don't think there's irreparable harm, and i don't think he has a likelihood of success on the merits, it's too high of a burden.

  5. Right. That's the procedural standard. My sense was that the governing substantive law may place a gloss on the proceedings that would otherwise not be in play -- something about how Goodell's actions as arbitrator may be subject to somewhat closer scrutiny based on concepts of precedent, notice, due process.

Its both but not for the prelim injunction.

Brady will attempt to show that the process was a sham- meaning totally unfair-

He will also argue "law of the shop" which is a legal premise used when reviewing arbitration decision made under CBA's.  This means that even with the plain language of the CBA, that Goodell acted outside what he had always done in the past, violating custom and practice of the unspoken rules everyone was operating under.

You see a little bit of this in some of Brady's people's statements, that hey Goodell was acting totally unfair and was making it up as he goes so it's not under CBA or law of shop. Thus Brady had no way to defend himself.

I still think it's a large uphill battle for him to have a court overturn.  This isn't like the Peterson case at all.

And as I told the guy who spoke on GR this morning---- he actually got all that stuff from me---- it's not about the evidence, it's not about him destroying his phone--- as far as the lawsuit is concerned.

  6. Today on WGR they discussed the following ideas:

    --2016 first for Byfuglien

    --Ennis for Byfuglien

--2016 first and Ennis for Byfuglien.

The first of these proposals is a no-brainer for me.

I'm not so sure I want to lose Ennis, though.  I really think that he can excel in space and that he's got teammates to create it for him now.

Isn't he one of the guys who had a beef with Kane? http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/evander-kane-missed-game-after-incident-with-byfuglien-reports-1.2946727

Sometimes i wonder about these GR guys, especially jeremy.

Locker room chemistry is important, guys dont have to be bff's or all get along, but this wouldn't look good or be good for the room.

  7. I still think it will be a couple of seasons before Reinhart makes an appreciable difference. He may start this season in Rochester.

I agree here, he seems like a late bloomer physically and it will give his feet and body a chance to catch up with his hands and IQ

  8. Could have been as simple as a swab of a credit card turning up traces of cocaine.

wouldnt that result in an arrest? especially at the border? It has to be something more serious, for all the hush about it from LA, and Pierre being weird about divulging more.

My guess would be that the reason things can't be disclosed is for the legal process or investigation.

  9. I think you're right.  I guarantee it's closed by 2018.

Part of the problem with this category of restaurant in buffalo is the allure, the women and how they dress, doesn't really fit the Buffalo population.  Hooters on Maple wasn't exactly well staffed, especially compared to almost all other locations I've seen.

I would expect the same from Tilted Kilt

CONFIRMED: Sabres and Leafs both had discussions with the Avalanche this morning regarding O'Reily #NHL

I think the Avs know he either gets traded now or at the deadline.

SOURCE: "Very likely ROR gets moved within the next 24-36 hours" #NHL #Avs

Umm is this twitter handle legit? seems a bit hockeybuzz-ish

  11. I fully believe that is what Pegs told this source, but as someone else pointed out, this explanation is incredibly self-serving and one-sided. "Erratic behavior"? He's suffering from "post-concussion syndrome"? Sound more like sour grapes than a rational explanation of why he left. PLF could have called a pressed and just said "being a GM/whatever just isn't for me, so I'm stepping down". Instead, the whole event was shrouded in mystery and PLF didn't speak until a week later. Then there's the whole thing with Nolan getting his panties in a bunch. I don't see Nolan freaking out if PLF truly had to step down for health reasons.

That said, PLF has done this before, so maybe he really is just a nut case. I also find it ironic history repeated itself with Nolan, but everyone expected him to be different this time. I'm glad we've moved on.

Yes but there's an equally plausible other side.  They let him go and didn't leak anything about it, and they've shown no problem leaking.

I think if the story is true they just let him go and didn't make a fuss about it. And we didn't hear anything about PLF being screwed over by his camp.

The whole story is shrouded in mystery, but PLF has been canned twice, there's got to be more going on.

  12. I think it's relative, your top line players have to be better skaters, because the dmen are better skaters and you need to open up the ice.

Your lower line players don't need to be all that great

I think you need to ask: who is a great player but doesn't skate well,  either speed or balance?

I can't really think of any off top of my head.

  13. Quite so. Thanks.

    http://www.wgr550.com/Should-the-Sabres-buy-out-Hodgson-/21625288

There are some other things to consider: Hodgson has not been the most popular teammate in two different destinations now. That should not be a huge factor in the decision, but it is relevant that he may not be the best fit. Showing up out of shape last season also does not scream “desire to win.”

It doesn't.  And let's not forget there are plenty of guys on every team who aren't liked but are respected bc they work hard or contribute a ton.

It doesnt seem like Cody has had any of that in Van or Buf.     Not surprising when you have a guy like hodgson who doesn't bust it every shift and shirks playing defence.

I don't want a guy like him eating minutes from a younger player anyway. I dont' think this team needs players like Hodgson going forward when you are building a core around Zem and Eichel -- guys notorious for being gym hounds and skating every shift.

  14. Source(s) for those items? First I'm hearing them.

As to the latter, I thought he was a fitness nut?

He wasn't like it Van, I believe I found some reports on that and had posted in the other Hodgson thread. It was also referenced by Hamilton on GR several times and most recently by Coller in his writeup.

As for fitness, also in Coller article

I'd heard he dropped by Gary Roberts gym to say hi to some old team mates and actually helped move the buffet table or something something...

On a serious note does anyone know if Roberts training has a huge impact on players or is it just riding on some kind of Gary Roberts brand. Does it deserve the accolades is what I'm trying to say ? I can't remember any data to actually back up the hype and by all accounts it hasn't really done much for Cody.

Stamkos credits him for his 60 goal season.

He can elevate a player's game to the next level if they want to follow his regimen

  15. I don't think Cody is a victim of circumstances  at all.  He wore out his welcome in Van and he' done so here.

A guy who doesn't look like he's competing on the ice and isn't well liked in the room  and came into camp out of shape? its a recipe for being removed from the team.

Why keep a guy like that around?

As someone else stated, we already have a guy who isn't a great skater taking up a center spot next year.

Get out from this horrible contract and move on.

  16. Haven't heard the clips yet, but these latest quotes are bugging me more than other times Murray has put his foot in his mouth.

They have left the impression that:

Reinhart and Zadarov already have spots in the lineup

Grigorenko doesn't have a spot in the organization going forward

Hodgson has close to zero value with the organization.

Not sure how making any of that public helps the Sabres

    Don't think it hurts either.

Zad can't go to Rochester b/c he will prob leave to go to KHL.

A little surprised to hear that re Reinhart.

Not surprised about Grigorenko, he doesn't seem like a Murray guy and hasn't shown enough to warrant the same level of "protected status" in the organization as say Zad

  17. Or a garbage plate

I've never managed to do a crossover, either on ice or inlines. :)

Ok try this... skate forward, get up to medium speed, then using only your left foot (pick up your right) turn left on the ice. the more comfortbale you get... go a little faster, you'll start to lean out over your edge as you build confidence on your edges.

if you don't feel strong enough yet, do some home exercises,  do air squats with your skates on, blade guards too : ) dont need to lace them too tight.  Start building leg and core strength.
