  1. I see much more from McGinn than I do from Foligno. That's not to say that McGinn isn't likely a 3rd liner either.

Well, that's the problem with Foligno, isn't it? We all want him to be a power forward, and it's clear he has the size for it, but it just hasn't materialized, and I'm not sure if it ever will. To me, this feels just like hoping Stafford./Myers will pull it all together and become what we all hoped for. IMO, Marcus just won't

For shits and giggles, Avatar bet that Foligno doesn't hit 20 goals next year? I don't even think he hits 15

Yea exactly.  Foligno has spurts from time to time, but a whole lot of nothing in between.  Put a diff name on his back and i think fans like him a lot less.

  2. It did. I would agree with you if there weren't many thinking the same. And when I say many I mean legitimately every person I know who read the tweet.

Just like everyone thought McKenzie was actually reporting something on Sabres Stamkos?  Doesn't mean anything or support your interpretation in any way, just because other people thought same.

Its pretty clear that he was saying his sources say its not crazy re what McKenzie was clearly speculating on,  part of the problem is too many people not understand McKenzie's context.

  3. THIS is what your report should be, then. What you reported reads as if your source was indicating that Bob McKenzie had sources indicating to him that Stamkos is considering those ideas in a possible jump to Buffalo. Your actual report is more that the team will consider chasing him and what McKenzie laid out is what Buffalo will use to engage him.

There's a difference in what a team thinks for a player and what a player thinks for himself, and I think your report indicates more information about the player than the team despite your source indicating information about the team and not so much the player.

No it didnt.  If you read it that way is on you.

  4. You would think being thrown off a team and investigated for sexual assault within the past year would be a good enough wake up call. What a dummy. Murray should get out of this mistake ASAP and trade him this deadline. More than enough proof by now that it's not going to get any better.

Who let Jerry Sullivan post?  I can't wait for the TBN article.

  5. I mean, they're in full rebuild mode, any aging vet with a big contract are going to be gone. The side effect could be room for Stamkos, but it was happening either way.

The more I hear from Stamkos, the more I think he stays. I was absolutely convinced he was leaving in the Fall, but now? Not so much

I agree, and esp since Stamkos really wants to win, and with TO in rebuild not sure that's happening anytime too soon.

  6. No, that's the definition of trolling.

I agree, and its diff than just being provocative to further the discussion. It goes beyond that.

As SDS said " Hot topics" don't originate from puff pieces in the travel section of local newspapers, unless someone is willing to bend and twist the situation to illicit that hot reaction you know all so well"

PA isn't just trying have a thoughtful and provocative discussion, it's done with the intent to have the exact reaction of this thread, then take a step back like steve urkel and say "did i do that"  I just meant to think etc etc.

I think the fact that i've seen way too many threads started or taken over by over the top PA posts shows that it's trolling.

Here we have a travel article talking about people coming down from SO, I pointed that out many times yesterday and SDS did a great job of going the extra mile explaining everything.

Why?  because we have a particular poster who seems focused on stirring the pot and dousing it in gasoline.  I'm not talking heated rhetoric about player x being better than player y.

It's about the constant tin foil hat disparagement being constantly thrown at the team and the twisting and mental gymnastics apparent in so many posts.

I passed that article around to many of my non Sabres/non Buffalo fans and asked them to tell me what they thought the gist was?  0 out of 5 thought it was the team saying or meaning what the OP stated. Why? Because there's no fair reading of the article to reach that conclusion.

They all said it sounded like the writer was saying Buffalo is a good spot to see a hockey game. One even is considering going this season now.

    Please. Call me Smell.

Well, there is that. PA has a pretty consistent and entrenched view of the world, that's for sure. And it frequently finds expression in what he posts.

    This is not unfair.

In my view, the troll tag is reserved for people who're pushing buttons for the sake of pushing buttons. I think PA's angles and critiques have different motivations than the mere desire to get people riled up.

I in no way mean this argumentatively, but what do you believe the intentions are?

  7. Right. Because none of Gilbert's comments are about out of town Sabres fans. Everything he said regards Leafs fans. He wants Leafs fans here.

Does he say he wants them over Sabres fans? No. But no one, including myself, has made that assertion. You're the one adding that language.

The WHOLE thread has been about Leafs and/or other fans over Sabres fans,  otherwise who cares?

Everything Gilbert said? he has two quotes that arent even from the same sentence. In only one does he talk about Leafs fans.

Show me the part where he says or implies he wants more leafs fans?

Is it the first quote : "We love Southern Ontario Leafs fans"

or this one " "When the Leafs are in town, thirty to forty per cent of fans holding tickets are from Southern Ontario,"  ??

What part is he wants more Leafs fan?

You know that 15% of the season tickets holders are from southern Ontario.... perhaps that's why he says he loves them.

  8. You probably can't so it's best just to send out the ads saying ... attention our of town Sabre fans we want you ... or something like that.

Yeah, but that's not who they want. They want the fans of opposing teams. I reckon we could extend this beyond just the Leafs.

Let's talk about willful misreading. If that's what you think I said then you're reaching.

you said they don't want out of town sabres fans, they want fans of opposing teams.

  9. I guess it must be easy to read over the phrase "Leafs fan" in Gilbert's quote.

To give the benefit of the doubt: 1. Misquote? 2. Maybe a one-off comment. Is there other evidence of a concentrated marketing campaign targeting Leafs fans?

    It's something to watch.

Again, lets not be purposefully obtuse PA.    I included the Leafs fan part of the quote.  He stated 30-40% fill the arena when TO is in town. This is true.  That is not advocating Leafs fans over sabres fans.

Its the Hamilton paper doing a piece on people driving down to Buffalo for games. Not a press release by the team recruiting Leafs fans. It talks about the scene and then the Sabres VP of comm relations says 30-40% fill the arena when TO is in town.  He also says he loves SO, ya know the area that has tons of Bills and Sabres fans who fill both arenas.

What would you propose as a better response?  Don't come if you aren't a Sabres fan??

Because it's literally what Gilbert said.

Literally he did not. He stated what percent come to games. That does not mean he wants Leafs fans over Sabres fans, like you said.

The team got the Sabres on TV to generate more fans from SO, not to recruit more Leafs fan.

There's a lot of willful misreading of that article going on here.

Again, wouldn't sabres STH be more responsible for Leafs fan attendance since they are the ones who directly facilitate it?

"Hey Leafs fans, our location in Buffalo is great for you.  We have all kinds of hotels and food not to mention hockey. Blah Blah Blah"

Sabres marketing to local business owners:

"Hey, check it out, we are working to draw in more out of town fans to help boost your business.  Care to advertise with the Sabres?"

I'm struggling to imagine just how people seem to be getting so worked up over nothing.

It's the same cast of characters using the usual nonsense.

  10. This has been one of the most overblown threads in a long time. He said he 1)loves SO fans and noted, correctly,  and 2) that Leafs fans take up 30-40%.....

this some way turns into open courting? advocating for visiting fans?

What's he supposed to say? that he dislikes SO fans? many of whom support the sabres?  Isnt that the one the reasons the sabres got themselves on SO tv back in 2013?

or 2) stating a correct fact?

Leafs fans wouldn't be able to take up that much if SABRES fans wouldn't sell their tickets. It has nothing to do with marketing or this silly article.

  11. The outcome has nothing to do with whether it was a good challenge. It was a terrible challenge with no hope of being won, even if "Z"'s stick grazed Lehner's pad. The big issue here is judgment. Who did Bylsma entrust with advising him? And given how terrible the challenges are, why is that person (presumably) still advising him? It goes to competence. The whole season goes to competence. Nolan, the bum with no system, could have the Sabres in this position.

Yea but not the judgment of the coaches....

  12. Colorado fans who view him each game seem to think otherwise, and how do you know he hasn't been on the ice against scoring lines ? doubt you have seen every colorade game this year.

Easy to make such statements, but I'll take the opinion of Colorado fans who view him each game.

I have centre ice and have seen many games. And no i don't take the opinions of Avs fans or any team's fans..... and you are showing why. You cannot honestly suggest that a player is playing well when he's been in street clothes for 3 straight games and was barely playing before that. He may turn out just fine down the road, but he's still struggling right now as many young players do.

Grigo has been avg 7-9 mins a game for a while, and he isnt regularly playing against top lines.  If he was, and he was shutting them down as you suggest, he wouldn't be a healthy scratch and would most certainly be getting more mins.

  13. his defense has always been solid, and any goals against he rarely is on the ice for colorado.   He once got moved into Tanguay's spot with Mackinon and duchen for half a game.

Had a goal and 2 assists.    The guys he is playing with on the 3rd and 4th line in colorado have the same talent level as john scott tbfh.

Yes he also hasnt been on the ice against scoring lines so you wouldnt expert that either.

Besides you can't hide behind linemates talent level when it's near universal opinion that he just hasn't been good enough to earn more minutes. You can show that even playing with John Scott.

  14. I disagree with you.  Drouin is going to be fine once he gets away from Coop the Poop.

    NS knows.

He is going to have to be a lot better in his own end, that's not just a cooper thing.   It would also help him quite a bit to push the attack little more and not dart side to side.  Teams play defnse in the NHL and that means backchecking and they catch up to him too much.

He's good enough to learn to adapt if he wants, but it's def not all Cooper's fault he's flailing.

  15. I expect he'll come out playing with his hair on fire to show Buffalo what they gave up.

Grigo playing that hard is about normal so i'm not too worried.  He's also playing matt ellis level mins.  But i imagine they're gonna give him lots more tonight.

    As will 90 and 88.

  16. So, turns out Avery routinely beat his wife and former girlfriend, and sent multiple death threats to them

The documentary was not aimed at showing his innocence but at exposing the system. Those who are saying but he was a bad man are missing the point and part of the *@$ problem.

The system is supposed to give a fair shake to all, whether guilty or not, and Avery didn't get that.  Implying that it's ok because he was bad and probably did it does not change the fact that he was likely set up by the police.  The bullet, the key, the car, the DNA, and the judge making really really bad rulings (DNA evidence from the FBI should never have been allowed).

He was no angel and many of those things you mention seem to be accurate although many of them weren't allowed as evidence at his trial.

Way way too many people are trying to rationalize this away by saying so what he threatened people and burned a cat, so who cares if he got hosed at trial....again.

  17. You are being to harsh, he has been doing fine in Colorado, just stuck because roy prefers to showcase Tanguay for the trade deadline.

How is Zemgus doing better this year ?  been good defensively, so has grigorenko.   Both are lacking offense at the moment.

Grigorenko is not doing fine in COL, he's been avg under 10 mins a game for the last month, is now being a healthy scratch, he is not trending up and isn't showing he can score in the NHL

28 is having a bad year, no one can dispute that. But has shown way more Offense that grigenko has ever shown at the NHL level.

  18. I do agree with this; my point wasn't to nitpick. Despite his imperfections, he's OUR RJ .............what's funny is how much other fan boards can't stand his goal call. Oh well.

Yea i think fans get used to the generic smooth pbp guys who sound like theyre straight out of central casting.... so when they hear an unusual voice with a lot of personality they don't like it ESP his goal calls bc that means they're being scored on.

With that said, DD is ok just way too vanilla to follow RJ

  19. I never get tired of RJ's goal calls as well as his knowledge of the game. However, he is showing signs of being a half-step behind. The only knock I have on him is his use of nondescript "filler" language: my biggest pet peeve is "insert player name tries to get away" - overused ad nauseum and this one does not accurately describe the play - at all.

I hear you, but as anyone with Centre Ice can attest, it's pretty much an industry-wide thing.

Rick may be a little slower than his prime, but i'll take him over the cookie cutty PbP guys most teams suffer

  20. The same reason I wouldn't, but I also really like what 28 and 3 bring.  I'm really interested in what Girgensons can do with Eichel as the early returns have been good.  I also like him as a Top 6 forward role if he's the grinder to compliment the skill guys.  He's been disappointing this season but I also think he seems like a guy built for the playoffs.  Pysyk might be the best passer on the team and we're weak on defense now.  He and Risto are the two guys I could see really helping both as reliable defenders *and* guys that can jumpstart our offense.

Not really, but him requesting a trade at 20 years old isn't helping.

really not hurting him either, yet.  He needs to show up in cuse and play. lots of young kids have requested trades and sometimes its for the best.  There's more stuff being said about cooper not getting along with players, and many are saying that why Stammer hasnt re-signed yet.
