  1. Looks like the all american breakfast didn't make his picks before this thing was locked.

Wah!  Haha, I specifically didn't log back in to check my picks, because I wanted to go with my initial gut from Sunday evening rather than change my picks based on Sabrespace chatter.  I guess I never submitted or something.

I think I had CHI over MIN, LAK over ANA, WAS over PIT, TB over FLA.  And LAK over WAS in the finals.  Oh well.  Good luck, fellas!

  2. Is there any reason I can't view another person's bracket?

I think you're not supposed to be able to see one another's brackets until after they're locked in, so that you can't cheat off someone else.  Y'all are just dangling your whole brackets out here in the open air.

  3. Heh, thanks for the tip--the labrum is what I had surgery on; posterior and superior tears. Once a week on the exercises doesn't seem too terrible. I have a pretty large set of exercises to do twice a day and it takes nearly 2 hours, so I'm really hoping I don't have to continue to do them that often after I graduate, which my therapist said will be at the end of April. I will gladly accept any other tips you have :)

Yeah that huge list of exercises twice/day is grueling, huh?  It sucks, but think about the long-term.  You went through all the effort to get the surgery and all that.  Listen to the physical therapist and do it right.  Otherwise you may end up (like me) always being at 90%, never getting back to 100%.

By the way, I cannot throw a football or baseball for the life of me now.  I haven't even tried picking tennis back up :(  I attribute it to rushing back into things after surgery + stopping the exercises.  Hopefully I am scaring you into staying consistent with the strengthening exercises

  4. This is interesting. For the first time in like 15 years I've had a lengthy time away from weights (shoulder dislocation -> shoulder surgery) and in a couple of months I'm going to be able to get back to heavy lifting. I've been looking for a new routine and may give this a shot. What's the reasoning as to why machines are better than free weights? Everyone I've ever learned from about lifting has stressed the superiority of free weights to machines, so I'm curious why the slow burn is better with machines.

ADVICE: I had surgery on a torn labrum (shoulder) in '08... Do NOT stop doing the exercises your physical therapist has prescribed for you.  I stopped for a six months, my shoulder started getting bad again, and I went back to PT... Now I MUST do them once/week... My shoulder is always at 90% but will never be 100%... This is for ultimate frisbee by the way.

Thanks. Sometimes I think it just comes across as me bragging (and maybe that's exactly what it is) but I like to think some people enjoy seeing some different scenery and different bikes.

Well, it does kinda come across as you bragging :P BUT, I'll say I really enjoy the posts too!  PLUS it seems to be working for you (the weight-loss), PLUS this seems like an appropriate place to post all those.

Also it makes me miss when I lived in Austin; I'd try to bike everywhere and it was glorious

  5. Let's talk about better days and focus on 2006-2007. In the playoffs that year, one player had no points at all. That's not exactly true. Daniel Paille played one game with no points. This person played all 16 games. As a bonus, which two forwards, that played 15 and 16 games respectively, had no goals?

Wow.  I got impatient and looked it up.  This shouldn't give anything away, but: For all the injury issues we had on defense the previous year, remarkably only six defensemen dressed in the '07 playoffs (each playing all 16 games)!

  6. The points percentage seems to be overly complicating things.  Then they have this funky page called "playoff primer" which colors us yellow "potential crossover playoff position" whatever that means.

I simply see 6 points back with 12 games remaining.

Need Utica, Portland, Hartford, Syracuse and St Johns to suck over the next few weeks.

We play Syr 2x, Utica 1x, St John 1x.

We finish with 2x @ Toronto, the first place team by a lot (46-15-5).  Their top scorer is 3rd in entire league, Mr. TJ Brennan (23g,40a).

Hmmm.  Thanks for the "Playoff Primer" link.  According to this, the top FOUR teams in the Atlantic Division get in, and the top THREE teams in the North Division get in.  Then there is ONE wildcard team that can come from either division.

This doesn't really change much; the Amerks need to beat out four out of those other five teams that you listed.

  7. What is the playoff scenario? I'm sure it's out there but I don't really want to spend the time. Can someone enlighten me

Roughly... six teams for two spots?  76 games in the AHL season.

  8. Senior year of high school, I memorized 483 digits of pi in order to eclipse the school record and get my name on a plaque.  The following year, I was hit by truck on Pi Day during a run while a freshman in college.

I agree with pizza.  With banana peppers.

  9. I could see doing something like team Europe to bring together the good players from countries that don't have enough to put together a team and be competitive, but I'm not sure I understand team North America, considering it ends up being the "B team" to USA and Canada. I could see USA, CAN, SWE, FIN, RUS, CZE, GER, and ROW (rest of the world) as teams.

I thought Team North America was a Young Guns type of conglomerate.

  10. Zubov!  Quick story time.  I was in Salt Lake City for work a couple years ago, and I was speaking with a Russian fella there who was in college in Utah during the 2002 Olympics.  Because he spoke the language, he was hired by the Russian hockey team to help them find their way around the city.  Most notably, he had to drive Zubov to Nevada so he could gamble.  Zubov apparently promptly blew $15,000, and then argued with his wife the entire drive back to SLC.  It sounded real awkward.
