  1. I thought there were several times he should have run and he didn't. Other times he did run when there wasn't space. His decision making was off, but that's to be expected with a new QB. Not a complaint but an observation

Agreed.  It seems the sentiment (based on QWGR reaction) is that Tyrod didn't play thhaaaaat bad, but for me, this game has brought him a little closer to earth.  From what I've seen, his poise has been completely different in the two wins than the two losses.

Edit: I should add, I'm not concerned, but just an observation/add-on to what you said.  I LOVED one caller to WGR last week who put Tyrod in the Hall of Fame, and they couldn't figure out if he was for real or just trolling.

  2. Is anyone here at the game? I'd love to know 1) if guys are running intermediate routes and 2) if they're open at all. Because ya know, heaven forbid the broadcast analyze this type of thing.

I was there.  There were several plays where we were screaming for Tyrod to throw it to someone who was open, and he never saw him.  I'm as big a backer of Tyrod as anyone, but I I'll be the first to say I didn't think he was seeing downfield very well yesterday.

Iv never seen so many throws so short of the first down marker on 3rd down

That was unreal.  It seemed like the 3rd down playcalls were lazy: "well, yeah just do that one that puts the receivers a couple yards shy and HOPE that he gets it somehwo".

I just don't know how this is possible. How is it possible to turn over a team for two decades and still end up with the exact same team year after year?

You sound just like this big blowhard a few rows back from me yesterday.  Felt bad for him.

Fan behind me: "How could you POSSIBLY be losing to the ## ## ## Giants???"

Me (to myself): "You've been watching for three quarters; can't you answer that question?"

Not singling d4rk out, but I guess... the fan over-reactions are getting just as old as the Bills' non-competitiveness.

Taylor won't run even when there is a ton of field ripe for the picking.

Tyrod tried running/making something out of nothing WAY more than I wanted him to. I screamed for him to throw the ball away about four times and he insisted on trying to make a big play.  It worked out well for him, though, I thought.  That one big run down the home sideline to inside the 5 was great (although rightly called back on, I wanna say, an Incognito holding penalty).

No fish.  And 100% more enjoyable than what you poor souls watched.

So, twice as enjoyable as watching yesterday's Bills game?............. :nana:

  3. For those who doubt Whaley, look around the league at the players he's let walk. Kiko (out, again), Spiller (completely useless in NO), Byrd (hurt/wants to retire), Fitz (we all know this one), and I'm sure there's more. Compare that to who he's brought in, drafted, and kept. Doug Whaley has built himself a very solid foundation

    Levitre, to add one more.

So, what happened to Aaron Williams on Sunday?  He came back, played one snap, and then what?

Also, it is assumed Urbik is in for John Miller?

  4. BTW:  I'm not sure, but it may have been Labatt who coined one of the greatest phrases in SabreSpace history.

The phrase described the soft group of forwards comprising the Sabres' "core" post-Black Sunday, and captured beautifully the disgust many here felt for them.

It was 3 words, the first two of which were hyphenated (or should've been, anyway), and the 3rd of which was a name.

    Anyone got it?

Where is chz with the epitomizing photo?  I recall great debates over who was in the photo :D

  5. I will be attending both the Sabres' opener on Oct. 8 and the Oilers' game on Oct. 10 in Nashville.  I believe I will be the first human to witness both an Eichel and a McDavid regular season NHL game.

      B-)

(Actually... it appears the only way that wouldn't be true is if someone went to EDM@STL on Oct. 8 and TBL@BUF on Oct. 10 afternoon.)

  6. The Kings "This Beat Goes On." If you want something subtler, then The Kings "Switchin' to Glide."

Added benefit, the band now controls the full rights to the songs so the guys that actually came up w/ 'em would make the money from the usage.

Yes!  I would second this.  I actually thought about that song when I re-listened to the proposed 1000 Swords song, because the band reminds me of the Kings.

Edit: See 2:39 for the chill-er "This Beats Goes On" (even has a call/response) or 3:40 onward for "Switchin' to Glide":

  7. Hand signed can be far more valuable or far less valuable. It all depends on who does the signing. I have a Pete Rose autographed 8x10(I know, not a card). The frame is worth more than the picture. Rose signs everything he sees, so his autograph is worth pretty much nothing. My Bernie Williams and Paul O'Neill autographed pictures are worth far more and I'm pretty sure Rose has more hits than both of them combined.

Pack signed cards are quite common, but getting a player worth having is pretty rare.

And you don't need to take selfies with the people who are autographing your memorabilia. Just have them authenticated. It's a pretty simple process and it increases value significantly.

    Alright... looked it up, and you were close! BW's 2336 hits + PON's 2105 hits = 4441 hits > PR's 4256 hits :P

  8. I thought we had a QB on the practice squad already, but now I'm seeing that we don't.  Did they have one at any point?

Also, have they done anything to fill Cassel's roster spot yet?

Apparently they cut Matt Simms on Sept. 4 (before Week 1) and he's with the Atlanta Falcons now.  Haven't seen any roster move news yet.

  9. Larsson lead the forwards in ice time on Monday with 17:53 so clearly Bylsma has some confidence in the kid.

Yup.  Or, GMTM has some bites for him, and the trade partner wants to be sure he has come back to camp in shape / ready to play before doing it?  Just a possibility, like you said.

  10. I liked what I saw out of Larsson before he was our top center, but what I saw then really cemented for me that he an NHL player. Maybe I'm falling into the small sample trap, but it's not like I'm projecting him to be a 50 point player either. As the team's top center, he put up better numbers than Girgensons, and both Moulson and Ennis put up better numbers being centered by Larsson than with Girgensons. I don't think Larsson is better than Zemgus, but it's not nothing that that happened either.

I am still hoping they position Larsson to be traded before the season starts.  Will his value possibly be any higher than it is now?
