Where's Deslauriers?
-
Devan Dubnyk recorded his third consecutive shutout on Saturday. This lead me to find two cool facts/trivias:
1. How long is the longest continuous shutout streak by an NHL goaltender?
Hint:
The streak was in 1927-28.
2. What goaltender had the longest continuous shutout to start his NHL career?
Hint:
This guy started his career with another team, but later was a goalie for the Sabres.
Hint 2:
The streak was in December 2011, and he was with the Sabres/Amerks from 2012 to 2015.
Hint 3:
This guy was acquired by the Sabres along with Johan Larsson, a 1st, and a 2nd for Pominville and a 4th

I'm at 100. I will bet 1 unit (100) on the Sabres.
I blew it. I'll be on the streets of South Philly begging for booze money if y'all need me.

^^^ :worthy: Man I'm missing out. Have fun JJ

I'm at 500. I will be 4 units (400) on the Sabres.

Thanks for the updates, fellas.
So, there are two AHL team relocations for the 2016-17 season:
- The Arizona Coyotes apparently purchased the Springfield Falcons, moved them to AZ, and they are now the Tucson Roadrunners.
- Springfield Hockey LLC bought the Portland Pirates, moved them to Sprignfield, and they are now the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Other notes:
- Tucson is now in the Pacific division, meaning there are now 16 teams in the Western Conference (and only 14 in the Amerks' Eastern Conference).
- The five California teams (plus Tucson now) will continue to play a 68-game season, while the other teams play 76.
- It looks like Vancouver is the only Western Conference team that still has their farm club out east -- the Utica Comets.
Also!:
The AHL also changed the usage of home and away jerseys for the season. Before the Christmas break, home teams wear light jerseys and after the Christmas break, home teams wear dark jerseys. For the past several seasons, the visiting team wore light jerseys and the home team wore dark jerseys. Prior to the change in 2003, it was the opposite for many years.

I'm still at 2000. I will bet 15 units (1500) on the Sabres.

The Erik Rasmussen talk in the Jersey Countdown thread lead me to some (slightly) interesting trivia:
1996 #7 overall pick Erik Rasmussen scored the game-winning goal that clinched the 1999 Eastern Conference Finals for the Sabres (although, he did not play for the Sabres in the 1998 ECF). Three other players drafted in the FIRST ROUND of the 1996 draft (small hint: all drafted by other teams) played for the Sabres in other ECF later in their careers.
Which three players?
Bonus points if you can find me a video of the 1999 ECF Game 5 clincher versus the Laughs... I searched and failed.

This one's in Ontario.
No TV, right?
Right, I think. According to http://sabres.buffalonews.com/2016/09/26/sabres-next-four-exhibitions-will-tv/ :
Dan Dunleavy and Ray will call the Carolina game and team up for radio-only broadcasts Oct. 5 against the Hurricanes and Oct. 7 against Ottawa.
-
Anyone else have trouble following the game from that low TV angle? Was the have played as badly as it looked on TV?
I'm with you on that one, PTR. Very glad it's over haha. It was like sitting too low at
RWSThe Cap. -
The TSN broadcast mentioned this last night, I was surprised I hadn't seen it in this thread...
Dennis Seidenberg signed a one-year deal with the Islanders on Wednesday, worth $1M.

Not sure how good he is these days, but that seems like a good price. He was an absolute animal in the playoffs for the Bruins that one year.

In a BN report yesterday, they said that the next four preseason games, including last night vs Ottawa, would be televised. Unless something changed, that means both Leaf games and the Carolina game.
Awesome, thanks! You are correct:
Duff + Ray Thursday on MSG
RJ + Ray Friday on MSG
NBCSM on Monday

Eichel likely won't play Thursday or Friday. Kulikov likely to play Friday.
Speaking of Thursday (@TOR) and Friday (home versus TOR)... It looks like MSG will televise Friday, but not Thursday? Any way to watch (for me, in Rochester) on Thursday?
(Not new threadworthy... Don't have a better place unless i wait until midnight for the GDT!)
Thanks.

Someone called in to Schopp and Bulldog in ~July and started going on and on about how Jack could be the next Brian Holzinger, and they lost their minds.
Now I'm second-guessing myself... there's no way it was Holzinger... right?

Is there a better source for college football news and content? Because that's the main reason I tune in to ESPN.com on a regular basis.

Haha. Some of the twitter responses to Eulers' new mascot are fantastic; summary here: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/edmonton-oilers-introduce-new-mascot-hunter/

Whoa... crazy coincidence/timing... I am headed up to Toronto this weekend for an Ultimate Frisbee tournament where teams are determined by your Zodiac sign. 13 teams would surely throw a wrench in the tournament format. Also, my fellow Virgos will be sad to learn that they are now Leo's :D

Yes! In. Thanks Hank.

I've been unhappy with the Lehner trade since it took place and I think it is time to stop. I am picking Lehner is the most likely breakout candidate. I think he got injured last year because the concussion didn't allow him to stay fit and that resulted in the ankle injury. I think after this offseason where he was able to workout and focus and get in shape, he should be much better than anything we have seen. Lehner is going to be good.
Yes, well said. All the news we've seen on Lehner gives me hope that he can be the breakout player. Add that to the flashes of excellence he showed mid-season last year. Unfortunately, I think we have to be careful and take the "I'll believe it when I see it" approach with him and his injury history. I do really like him and I am certainly rooting for him.
I think Reinhart is the best choice in the poll. I think we'll be happy with the 25-35-60 that Thorny posted, but man, if he can get to 65+ points like Randall said, that would be great!

I've hear/read that lots of people always just call it "The Arena". Maybe it is easier to call it that when you reside in Buffalo? In close proximity to "The Arena"?
Maybe I'm alone, but I always called it "HSBC" or "First Niagara"*. I'm sure soon enough I'll end up calling it "KeyBank"...?
I can't remember what I called it when it was Marine Midland. I was kinda younger back then
Something like "The Bank" could be fun. I'm envisioning RJ with a goal call... something like: "Jack takin' it to the bank for Game 7..."
-
...who was that guy that scored 2 goals in his first game after being traded to us? I loved him too. Basically anyone who was traded to us in my younger years is going to be a stud and be a lifelong Sabre.
Steve Bernier?

I think his injury is related to his foot... unrelated to the knee injury he had last year.
